The Tea

Oh, Nassau. The cruise port that consistently disappoints and yet remains on every Caribbean itinerary because, well, it's close and cheap for the cruise lines. The port area downtown is tired, the markets are pushy, and the "attractions" within walking distance haven't been updated since the Clinton administration.

What the cruise lines won't tell you: Nassau has real safety concerns. The State Department has the Bahamas at Level 2 for crime, and downtown Nassau near the port has seen incidents. The Atlantis resort on Paradise Island is the default "safe" excursion, but it'll cost you — day passes start at $75+ per person. Cable Beach is beautiful but requires a taxi.

The value here is genuinely bad. Everything at the port is marked up for cruise passengers, and the quality doesn't match the prices. If Nassau is on your itinerary, honestly? A ship day might be the move. Or book a beach break at Junkanoo Beach (free, walking distance) and skip the straw market entirely.
