What Carnival Pride's Autumn-to-Winter Baltimore Season Is Actually Like
Carnival Pride is a 2001-built, 85,920-ton ship that holds 2,124 guests, and she's spending the cold months doing what she does best. She sails out of Baltimore and heads somewhere your coat can't follow. Two things before you book. First, there's a port-list wrinkle. Our listings don't include ports for the two 14-night sailings, so the Southern Caribbean routes in the table below come from published third-party schedules. On the 7-night runs, some port listings (ours included) show Princess Cays. Carnival's own itinerary page lists RelaxAway, Half Moon Cay instead, so that's the name to expect. Confirm your exact sailing with Carnival before you book. Second, the ship returned to service on April 9, 2026, after a 22-day dry dock at Grand Bahama Shipyard (March 15 to April 5). The reported work was modest: a casino décor refresh, upgrades to the Effy Jewelry boutique, and new carpet and upholstery in select areas. Don't expect a brand-new ship. Her latest CDC score is 93, from the April 14, 2026 inspection (look up any ship's inspection here).
The weather is a two-part drama
The Baltimore end is the cold part. BWI's 1991–2020 normals are roughly a 57°F high and 37°F low in November. December runs 52°F to 33°F. January manages only a 43°F high and a 25°F low. You board in a parka and step off in shorts. The Bahamas in winter is mild rather than tropical, with daytime highs around 75°F. Evenings can need a light jacket. Cruisers also report the water feels cool in late January. Pack the swimsuit anyway, but don't promise yourself warm-bath swimming.
Hurricane season officially ends November 30. That covers the Nov. 1, 15, 22 and 29 departures. NOAA's August outlook called for a below-normal 2026 season. An outlook isn't a guarantee, though. Late-season storms do form, so read the cancellation and itinerary-change terms before you book.
The two flavors of sailing
| Sailing | Ports (per sampled schedules) | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| 14 nights, Nov. 1–15 | St. Thomas, St. Maarten, St. Kitts, Aruba, Curaçao, Amber Cove (Dominican Republic); 7 sea days | Retirees, remote workers, and people who like sea days |
| 14 nights, Jan. 10–24 | St. Thomas, St. Maarten, Dominica, St. Lucia, Barbados, Antigua, Tortola; 6 sea days | Anyone who wants real warmth in the middle of January |
| 7 nights, Nov. 15–Feb. 14 (12 sailings) | Nassau, Half Moon Cay, Celebration Key; 3 sea days | First-timers, families, and long-weekend escapists |
The Jan. 10 sailing is the one to watch. It hits seven ports on seven consecutive days, so you'll be tired but tanned. The November 14-nighter has an Aruba stop that runs until 10 PM, which is a nice touch.
What the Bahamas ports are worth
- Nassau (8 AM–5 PM on the sampled schedules) is busy, touristy and easy. Book a beach or Atlantis-style day if you want sand, or wander downtown if you want souvenirs.
- Half Moon Cay (8 AM–4 PM) is the beach-day one. Carnival guests use the north side, which has a new pier, and Carnival says the island now has new complimentary lunch spots. Drinks are a separate matter, so budget for them. CruiseRadio calls the north side "a more vibrant experience" than before, while Eat Sleep Cruise rates Half Moon Cay as the calmer of the two next to Celebration Key.
- Celebration Key (7 AM–1 PM) is Carnival's newer Grand Bahama destination, with two freshwater lagoons: Starfish for families and Calypso for a party vibe. Adults get their own space at the 18+ Pearl Cove Beach Club. It's a short call at six hours, so go ashore early.
Holiday crowding and pricing
Prices swing hard. Third-party fare listings show the Christmas and New Year's sailings (Dec. 20 and Dec. 27) priced far above early-December departures like Dec. 6 and Dec. 13. Cruise fares are normally quoted per person, based on two people sharing a cabin, and they move daily. Check Carnival.com for the current price on your date. The pattern is clear: Christmas and New Year's weeks cost the most. If you're hunting for a bargain in late January or February, compare those dates on Carnival's site rather than assuming. The Dec. 20 sailing puts you in Celebration Key on Christmas Day, from 7 AM to 1 PM. Trading the family dinner for a lagoon is a choice, and a fun one, if you're into that sort of thing.
What to pack
- A real coat for the Baltimore terminal, which you'll shed the moment you reach your cabin.
- Shorts, swimwear and a light jacket or cardigan for Bahamas evenings.
- Sunscreen, even in January.
- Layers for the 14-nighters' first few sea days, which can feel brisk.
Planning a two-week stay? Read our cabin size guide first, because 14 nights in a tiny interior will test your marriage. If you're pre-gaming the drinks plan, check the bring-alcohol rules before you pack that suitcase.
