What Freedom of the Seas's Autumn Caribbean Season Is Actually Like
Meet Freedom of the Seas: a 2006-built, 154,407-ton, 15-deck Freedom Class ship. She carries 3,634 passengers and 1,360 crew, and she was refurbished in 2025. That was a drydock in Cádiz, Spain, which sounds glamorous until you remember drydocks are basically a spa day for steel. Cruise Industry News reported scheduled maintenance, class work and technical updates, with the hotel areas due general upkeep such as new carpets, upholstery and tiles. Royal Caribbean hasn't published a full list of changes that I can point you to, so check with the cruise line for specifics. Don't expect a ship reborn. Think "well-loved, freshly dusted" rather than "brand-new waterpark." Her last CDC inspection was on 2026-08-08, and she scored 94. The CDC's passing line is 86, so she cleared it with room to spare. Her full profile is on the Freedom of the Seas ship page.
What's actually sailing
Our database has no port list for the 4- and 5-night sailings. The ports below come from a third-party cruise timetable, so confirm against Royal Caribbean before you book. Port orders change from one departure to the next, even on the same trip length, because itineraries love a plot twist.
| Departs Miami | Length | Calls (per timetable) |
|---|---|---|
| Oct 31 | 5 nights | CocoCay, Grand Turk |
| Nov 5 | 9 nights | CocoCay, Cabo Rojo, Curaçao, Aruba |
| Nov 14 | 5 nights | Nassau, Falmouth (Jamaica) |
| Nov 19 | 9 nights | Curaçao, Aruba, CocoCay |
| Nov 28 | 5 nights | Nassau, Grand Cayman |
| Dec 3 | 9 nights | Aruba, Curaçao, Cabo Rojo, Nassau |
| Dec 12 | 5 nights | Nassau, Costa Maya |
| Dec 17 | 4 nights | Grand Turk |
| Dec 21 | 5 nights | Grand Cayman, Nassau |
| Dec 26 | 5 nights | CocoCay, Falmouth |
| Dec 31 | 4 nights | CocoCay, Nassau |
That covers the sailings through December. Our data shows more 5-night departures running into January, and their ports aren't confirmed here, so check Royal Caribbean's site for those. I'm not going to make up a port list just to fill a table row. We have standards (low ones, but standards).
Weather and seas
Atlantic hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30, and the peak is around September 10. The October 31, November 5, 14, 19 and 28 departures sail inside the season, though in its tail, when the drama has mostly left the building. The December 3 sailing and everything after it leave once the season is over. The 9-night route also goes south, to the ABC islands. Aruba and Curaçao sit outside the main hurricane belt and have had famously few run-ins with hurricanes. Curaçao's long-term record has November as its rainiest month, at about 2.2 inches. Expect showers that blow through and then give way to sun, not a washed-out day.
Temperatures hold steady, which is the nicest thing a forecast can do. Aruba averages in the low 80s°F in November, and Curaçao averages about 81°F in December, with highs around 85°F and seawater around 81°F. The thing to watch is the sea days. The 9-night sailings have several of them, and the open water between Miami and the ABC islands can be livelier than the Bahamas. If you're queasy, bring your remedy of choice and a bit of dignity.
Which length suits whom
- 4 nights (Dec 17, Dec 31): A first cruise or a long-weekend-plus escape. The Dec 31 trip is the hot one, with CocoCay and Nassau over New Year's. Yes, you can ring in the year on a giant floating party. No, you won't sleep.
- 5 nights: The sweet spot for a beach day plus one "real" port, such as Falmouth, Grand Cayman or Costa Maya. Check the port pair, because they differ a lot.
- 9 nights: For people who want Aruba's beaches and Willemstad's candy-coloured waterfront, and who don't mind several sea days. On those you'll spend a lot of time with your deck chair and your thoughts. Bring better thoughts.
Ports, honestly
CocoCay is the private-island splurge day. Nassau is busy and fine, so choose a beach or skip it for the ship's pool (the pool will not judge you). Willemstad is the prettiest walk-around of the bunch. Aruba is the beach-day winner, so check your sailing's all-aboard time before you plan a long dinner ashore. Cabo Rojo is newer on cruise itineraries, so plan an excursion rather than winging it. Grand Cayman is a tender port, which means a boat ride to shore and a small test of your patience.
Seasonal quirks and packing
Thanksgiving falls on Nov 26, so the Nov 19 9-night sailing runs across it and returns Nov 28. Somewhere a turkey is weeping. Christmas and New Year's sailings (Dec 21, 26, 31) should be priced as holiday weeks, and plain early-December weeks are where bargains tend to hide. Check current fares on Royal Caribbean's site, because prices move constantly.
Pack light layers, a compact rain jacket, reef-safe sunscreen, water shoes and a cardigan for the aggressive air conditioning. It will be arctic, and you will be glad you listened. Add one dressy outfit for holiday nights. Sort out the alcohol rules before you pack bottles; our bring-alcohol guide covers it.
