The Tea

Cruising from New York sounds glamorous in theory — the Statue of Liberty, the Manhattan skyline, the dramatic sail-away. In practice? You'll be navigating Manhattan traffic, paying $40+/day for parking (if you can even find it), and questioning every life choice as you sit in the Lincoln Tunnel.

The Manhattan Cruise Terminal at Pier 88 is in Hell's Kitchen, which has gentrified considerably but is still New York — meaning expensive, crowded, and absolutely zero chill on embarkation day. Brooklyn's Cruise Terminal is newer and slightly less chaotic, but also less convenient for tourists who want to see Manhattan.

Here's the uncomfortable truth: New York is one of the worst-value cruise ports in America. Everything — parking, hotels, food, transportation — costs 2-3x what you'd pay at literally any other US port. The sail-away is incredible, though. We'll give them that.
