What Majestic Princess's Autumn Season Is Actually Like

This is not one season. It's five, stacked in a trench coat. Between mid-October and mid-February, Majestic Princess goes from sweater weather in Maine to sweaty Brazilian afternoons to a Patagonian wind that has opinions about your hat, then finishes with an ocean crossing to England. Our database doesn't record ports for these sailings, so everything below comes from Princess-sold listings. Confirm it with Princess before you book.

The five acts

• Oct 17, 24 and 31, 7 nights, round trip from New York: Listings and Princess's own season announcement show Newport, Boston, Portland (Maine), Saint John (New Brunswick) and Halifax. Expect crisp, jacket-and-scarf weather. Halifax daytime highs in October typically sit around the low-to-mid 50s°F, and fog and Atlantic wind are part of the deal. Foliage is the draw, and this year it moves north to south. Forecasts had southern Maine peaking around Oct 16, while Explore Fall (via Boston.com) puts Boston and Worcester at peak by Halloween weekend, and WBUR lists Boston for mid-to-late October into early November. So the Oct 17 sailing should find Maine near peak and Boston still warming up. The Oct 31 sailing lines up better with Boston but will likely find Maine past its best. Timing at the Canadian ports is harder to call, so check the Tourism Nova Scotia and Tourism New Brunswick foliage pages before you go.
• Nov 7, 12 nights from New York: A Southern Caribbean run. Listings show St. Maarten, St. Kitts, St. Lucia and Curaçao among the stops, and 12 nights from Nov 7 lands you in Fort Lauderdale on Nov 19, exactly when the next sailing leaves.
• Nov 19 from Fort Lauderdale (33 and 17 nights in our data): Listings show the shorter one as a Brazilian Adventure ending in Buenos Aires, with St. Maarten, St. Lucia, Barbados, Fortaleza and a few more stops. The 33-night version continues on toward Cape Horn. Brazil in late November and December is hot and humid. Think mid-80s°F in Fortaleza and Rio, with a chance of afternoon showers.
• Dec 7 from Buenos Aires (Dec 8 in our table), Dec 22 from San Antonio (Santiago), and January from Buenos Aires: This is the Patagonia and Cape Horn stretch, plus Antarctica & South America sailings in January, which retail listings show departing Jan 6 and Jan 23.
• Feb 9 from Buenos Aires (21 and 35 nights, Feb 10, in our data): Princess lists these as the South American Passage and the Northern Lights Grand Adventure, both running from Buenos Aires to Southampton. Princess's own listing shows the South American Passage as 23 days with 9 ports, and notes that port order and itinerary may vary. We don't have a confirmed port list for either, so check Princess before you book.

A note on night counts

Our table and the retail listings don't agree, on dates as well as lengths. Our table lists the Dec 8 sailing as 14 nights, while retail listings show a Dec 7 departure of 15 nights from Buenos Aires. They call the Dec 22 sailing 15 nights, Dec 22 to Jan 6, where we have 14. They show the Nov 19 Buenos Aires route as 18 rather than 17. They list the January Buenos Aires sailings as 17 nights departing Jan 6 and Jan 23, where we have 16 nights departing Jan 7 and Jan 24. And they list the February sailings as 22 and 36 nights departing Feb 9, where we have 21 and 35 nights departing Feb 10. Trust the dates and lengths on Princess's booking page, and don't build flights around ours.

Hurricane season, honestly

The Atlantic season officially runs to November 30. Both Caribbean-heavy sailings (Nov 7 and Nov 19) sit in its final weeks, well after the early-September peak. NOAA's August outlook for 2026 gave a 75% chance of below-normal activity. That's reassuring, but it doesn't guarantee your itinerary will hold, so buy travel insurance and leave a buffer day on either end.

The Patagonia sailing, day by day

The Dec 22 voyage is the most memorable one on the schedule. Listed calls are Puerto Montt (Dec 24), Punta Arenas (Dec 27), Ushuaia (Dec 29), a scenic Cape Horn pass (Dec 30), Port Stanley in the Falklands (Dec 31), Puerto Madryn (Jan 2), Montevideo (Jan 4) and Buenos Aires (Jan 5–6). That's Christmas Eve in a Chilean port and New Year's Eve in the Falklands. It also means holiday crowding and holiday pricing, so compare fares carefully.

Patagonian summer is cool, not cold. Daytime highs run roughly 50–65°F in December and up to about 70°F in January, which is also the windiest month. Cape Horn is a pass, not a port, so the Southern Ocean decides how close you get. A balcony pays off here. Our cabin size guide will help you pick one.

Which length suits whom

• 7 nights: First-timers, long-weekend escapees and leaf-peepers.
• 12 nights: People who want Caribbean sun without a month away.
• 14 to 17 nights: Travelers who want the Patagonia or Brazil highlights and can spare two weeks.
• 21 to 22 nights: The Buenos Aires to Southampton crossing, for people who see a transatlantic passage as a feature rather than a commute.
• 33 nights or more: Retirees, sabbatical-takers, and anyone whose boss has stopped asking questions. That covers the 33-night Cape Horn run and the 35- or 36-night Northern Lights voyage.

What to pack

For New England, bring layers, a windproof jacket and closed shoes. For Brazil and the Caribbean, bring breathable fabrics, sunscreen and a small rain jacket. For Patagonia, bring a waterproof shell, a fleece, a warm hat, gloves and sturdy shoes. On the long itineraries you'll need all three kits, so leave room in the suitcase.
