What Silver Shadow's Autumn Caribbean / Bahamas Season Is Actually Like
Silver Shadow carries 388 guests and 302 crew on 28,258 tons. That is a very different Caribbean from the 5,000-passenger kind, where you can lose half a morning to a gangway queue and your will to live. This ship can slip into small harbours without the drama. The season runs from early November, when hurricane season is still technically on (more on that in a second), through the holiday weeks and into the settled-weather sailings of early 2027.
Weather and sea conditions
The Atlantic hurricane season officially ends November 30. The Nov 7 and Nov 18 departures from Miami fall inside it, and the Nov 30 sailing leaves on its very last day, which is the weather equivalent of walking out just as the bouncer says last call. Rare off-season storms do happen, so a reroute isn't impossible. Princess says November and December temperatures often settle into the high 70s and low 80s °F, with passing showers still possible in early and mid-November. It puts Caribbean sea temperatures in the high 70s to mid-80s, and calls December through April the most settled stretch of the year. Nobody publishes reliable wave-height forecasts for these routes months ahead, so we won't promise a glassy ride. The Nov 7, Nov 18 and Nov 30 Miami sailings each start with two sea days of open Atlantic before San Juan, and the ocean does what it likes out there.

What the ports are worth
Gustavia (St. Barths) is the standout. Silversea lists the Gustavia calls on the Nov 18 and Nov 30 Miami sailings as 08:00 to 23:00, and a travel-agent listing shows the same for Nov 7. That means you can stay ashore for dinner instead of sprinting back by 6 like a cruise-ship Cinderella. Jost Van Dyke is a short, beachy stop (07:00 to 14:00 on the Nov 18 and Nov 30 sailings), so get ashore early and claim your patch of sand. The January and February sailings are the port-heavy ones. On the Jan 10 San Juan departure, every day is a different island, including Les Saintes, Martinique, St. Lucia and Grenada, and you finish in Bridgetown on Jan 20. That's lovely, but you'll need a nap.
Which length suits whom
- 7 nights (San Juan, from Dec 20): First-timers, or anyone who can't take two weeks off. The Dec 20 departure spends Christmas aboard (Christmas Day is the sea day, so you can unwrap your presents and then do nothing at all), and the Dec 27 departure carries you into the new year.
- 10 nights: The sweet spot. The Nov 30 Miami version has four sea days to unwind. The January and February San Juan and Bridgetown versions have none, so they suit people who'd rather sightsee than lounge.
- 11 to 12 nights (November, Miami): Better for people who want a longer trip in shoulder season. The 12-night Nov 18 sailing has four sea days, which the January island-hoppers don't. Prices vary by reseller, so compare before you book.
What to pack
Think light layers, swimwear, reef-safe sunscreen and a compact rain jacket for passing showers. Add sturdy sandals for beach landings and a light wrap for air-conditioned dinners. Check the onboard dress code before you commit to anything fancy. Silversea's All-Inclusive fare includes onboard gratuities, port taxes and fees, and an unlimited pour of champagne, spirits and up to 50 wines, so you don't need to budget for a drinks package. Shore excursions are not part of that fare and are bought separately. Silversea also says the fare is available on Classic voyages and advises checking each voyage's inclusions, so do that before you pay.
