What Norwegian Bliss's Autumn Season Is Actually Like
Autumn on Norwegian Bliss is a ship with a split personality, and she commits to the bit. First she makes one long, one-way run from the Pacific to Florida, like a diva leaving one coast for the other. Then she settles into a winter routine out of New York, where you board in a coat and get off in flip-flops. Here's what that means for you.
The big one: Los Angeles to Miami, Oct 13–29
This is the only west-coast departure in our autumn data, and it leaves tomorrow. If you're reading this with a suitcase open on the bed, hello, and good luck. It's 16 nights, ends in Miami (not LA, so don't leave your car in the cruise terminal lot and hope for the best), and per Norwegian's itinerary page for this route runs like this: Cabo San Lucas (Oct 15), Acapulco (Oct 17), Puerto Quetzal, Guatemala (Oct 19), Puntarenas, Costa Rica (Oct 21), Panama City (Oct 23), a daylight Panama Canal transit (Oct 24), Cartagena (Oct 25), Falmouth, Jamaica (Oct 27), then Miami on Oct 29. Our own database has no port list for this sailing, so confirm the final call list on Norwegian's site before you pack, because itineraries can change.
That's seven sea days, seven ports and a canal day. The sea days are for reading, napping and pretending you'll finally start that novel. The ports are the real draw: Cartagena's walled old town, the canal itself, and Guatemala's colonial Antigua as a long excursion from Puerto Quetzal. Falmouth is a short stop, with the ship in port roughly 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Don't book anything ambitious there. This is not the day for a five-hour adventure with a "moderate hiking" warning.
Sea conditions and weather: both the Atlantic and eastern Pacific hurricane seasons run through November 30, according to the National Hurricane Center. This route crosses both basins in October, so expect heat, humidity and the odd rain-driven itinerary shuffle. Pack light, breathable clothes, a rain shell and reef-safe sunscreen. Your hair will have opinions about the humidity. Let it.
Out of New York: two lengths, two personalities
| Length | Ports (Nov sailings) | Sea days |
|---|---|---|
| 8 nights (Nov 1, Nov 21) | Port Canaveral, Great Stirrup Cay, Nassau | 4 |
| 12 nights (Nov 9, Nov 29) | Puerto Plata/Amber Cove, San Juan, Basseterre, Tortola, Philipsburg, St. Thomas | 5 |
The 8-night is the one for first-timers and anyone short on vacation days. Port Canaveral is your gateway to Orlando and the Space Coast, Great Stirrup Cay is Norwegian's private island, and Nassau is Nassau: busy, but easy. Four sea days is the trade-off. Two of them come at the end, when the ship points back north and the weather turns, a bit like the universe reminding you that you have a job.
The 12-night suits people who want island variety and a proper "I'm on vacation now" feeling. That means San Juan's forts, St. Maarten's beaches and St. Thomas's shopping, with enough sea time to actually unwind. The order of the island calls can differ from one sailing to the next, so check the day-by-day for your date on Norwegian's site. Yes, really. The Nov 9 and Nov 29 sailings don't line up call for call.
Our database doesn't list ports for any of these sailings. That includes the other 12-night departures (Dec 11, Dec 23 and the early-2027 dates) and the January 8-nights. Norwegian's site has the day-by-day for each departure, so check your exact date there rather than assuming it copies November.
Seasonal quirks worth knowing
- Thanksgiving: Nov 26, 2026 falls on the Nov 21 8-night, when the ship is due in Nassau. Yes, you could be eating turkey with a view of the Bahamas instead of arguing about the seating chart at home. Expect a family-heavy crowd.
- Hurricane season ends Nov 30, the day after the Nov 29 departure. That sailing is the last one to leave while the season is still officially on, so it gets to be the dramatic one.
- Holiday sailings: The Dec 23 departure spans Christmas and New Year's. Expect festive crowds and fares to match.
- Embarkation day in New York: Keep a coat, hat and gloves handy, and put swimwear in your carry-on, not your checked bag. Your suitcase can take its time. Your bikini cannot.
About the ship
Bliss carries up to 4,004 passengers and 1,716 crew across 20 decks, and she was refurbished in 2025. Her most recent CDC inspection, on Feb 8, 2026, scored 100. That's a perfect score, and I'd like that energy in my own kitchen. Our Norwegian Bliss ship page has the full specs, and you can verify any score yourself in the CDC inspection lookup. Heading out on the 16-night? Read up on bringing alcohol on board first, because a long itinerary makes the bar bill add up.
