Picture it: Saturday, January 16, 2027, Manhattan is doing its best frozen-tundra impression, and Norwegian Bliss slides out of New York for an 8-night round trip that is a lot more than a beach holiday in disguise. It has four sea days, three stops (Florida plus two in the Bahamas), and a ship that was refitted in early 2025. You’re also 82 days out, which is exactly when the useful deadlines start arriving (yes, already, and no, I’m not sorry).
Start Here
- Now: Confirm the route on ncl.com, because our database has no ports for this sailing and the itinerary below comes from published timetables. Trust, but verify.
- Now: Book specialty dining. Citizen Daily Post reports that reservations open about 90 days out (around October 18), so the window should already be open. Verify in your NCL account, then go claim your table like it’s the last lifeboat seat.
- December 26, 2026: Online Check-In opens (21 days out). Reserve your arrival time and aim to finish by January 12.
- January 13, 2027: Check-in closes, and eDocs become unavailable 72 hours before sailing. Download and print them before then.
- The day before sailing: This is the last chance to prepay the service charge and change your drink package (both up to 24 hours before).

What to Do Now and the Deadlines That Bite
The big dates cluster in the last three weeks, so put them in your calendar today. Future you, standing in a packed terminal with no eDocs, will be very grateful. Here is the sequence:
- Now: Check the port list on ncl.com. Some itineraries on this ship swap Nassau for Bimini, so don’t assume.
- Now: Reserve specialty restaurants. One cruiser tip is to book the whole cruise on embarkation day if you haven’t pre-booked. Note that an unlimited dining package doesn’t guarantee a table (cruise logic: the fine print always gets the last word).
- Dec 26, 2026: Online Check-In opens. You reserve an arrival time, which prints on your eDocs.
- Jan 12, 2027: NCL’s recommended finish date (at least 4 days before sailing).
- Jan 13, 2027: Check-in closes, and eDocs vanish 72 hours before sailing. Bring a printed copy, which serves as your boarding pass.
- Day before sailing: Last chance to prepay the service charge and change drink packages.
One more dining warning, and it’s a dramatic one: a report says NCL charges a $10 per person no-show fee if you don’t cancel at least 2 hours ahead, and holds tables 15 minutes. That report predates NCL’s announcement, so verify the policy before you rely on it.
Embarkation Logistics
Plan for Manhattan Cruise Terminal, 711 12th Avenue, but confirm it on your booking documents. NCL’s own New York directions give that address, and a third-party aggregator names it for Bliss’s 2027 sailings. Cruise Critic says a single ship typically uses Pier 90 (52nd Street), with check-in on Level Two.
- The car entrance is on 55th Street only (not 54th, not “close enough,” 55th).
- Coming from the north via New York or New Jersey: George Washington Bridge, then Henry Hudson Parkway South, exit at 55th Street.
- JFK, LaGuardia and Newark are roughly 30 to 40 minutes away, traffic permitting (it’s New York, so the traffic will have opinions).
- Taxis serve the terminal.
For a JFK cab, a commercial guide puts the yellow-taxi flat fare at $70 plus tolls and tip, climbing to about $80 at peak once surcharges pile on. That’s a guide’s figure, not an official one, so check nyc.gov/tlc for the current fares, including LGA and Newark, before you budget.
Arrival rules
Show up at the time printed on your eDocs, not before. NCL says not to arrive earlier than 1 hour before that embarkation time, because security regulations may prohibit early entrance. Being keen will not get you a free cocktail. If you skipped the time reservation, arrive after 12 pm and at least 2 hours before departure.
- Everyone must be checked in and onboard no later than 1 hour before departure. If the listed 4:00 PM departure holds, that is 3:00 PM.
- Each guest gets 2 checked bags of up to 50 lb each, tagged with NCL tags printed from your eDocs.
- Porters take bags at arrival, and then you clear airport-style security.
- Luggage can take a few hours to reach your cabin, so carry the essentials with you. Swimsuit, meds, phone charger, and the one sweater you can’t live without.
Parking
On-site parking was last published at $45 per night (a 2023 rate), so treat the total as an estimate.
| Option | Price | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Terminal parking | $45/night; about $360 for 8 nights | Credit card only; opens 8 am; checkout 3 pm; reservations highly encouraged |
| Off-site lots (ParkWhiz, SpotHero) | Under $30/day | Some about a third of a mile away |
| Manhattan Cruise Parking | From $27/day | Valet pickup an extra $40 |
All of those are subject to change. For hotels, we have no vetted recommendations, so search Hell’s Kitchen and Midtown West. January 16 is a Saturday, so add a winter-weather buffer if you’re flying in the day before. Nothing ruins a cruise like watching your ship on the horizon from a delayed flight.
The Ship and How to Work It
Bliss is a 2018 ship that spent about two weeks at the Damen yard in Brest, France, in early 2025 and came out with real changes. The Haven Premiere Owner’s Suites now have three bedrooms and three and a half baths (yes, a half bath, because even luxury needs a guest powder room). Staterooms were refreshed and entertainment venues enhanced.
- Horizon Park is new, an outdoor space with cornhole, giant Jenga, sunbathing areas and live music.
- Cagney’s Steakhouse and Teppanyaki were both expanded.
- Palomar, the seafood restaurant first introduced on Norwegian Prima in 2022, was added.
- Part of the Observation Lounge became 26 new balcony cabins, though the lounge still exists. Plot twist: the view got a few roommates.
Eating
Palomar is $60 to dine, or a specialty dining credit, and some dishes (Whole Grilled Lobster, for one) add $25. NCL lists a complimentary 24-hour eatery, complimentary dining rooms and specialty dining including Cagney’s and La Cucina. Third-party guides add the following, and the deck numbers are theirs, so check the deck plan onboard before you start wandering hungry:
- Three free main dining rooms with the same menu: Manhattan Room (Deck 7, dinner only), plus Taste and Savor (Deck 6).
- Palomar, Cagney’s and La Cucina on The Waterfront, Deck 8.
- Teppanyaki on Deck 6 and American Diner on Deck 17 (extra cost). Check current prices onboard before you commit.
- The Garden Café buffet on Deck 16.
Families and adults
Splash Academy is ages 3 to 12 and Entourage is ages 13 to 17, per NCL’s FAQ. Age is based on the child’s age at sailing, and a child who turns 18 during the cruise is treated as an adult and can’t continue in Entourage (tragic for the teen, liberating for everyone else). Third-party listings mention a Kids’ Aqua Park on Deck 16 and an Aqua Racer waterslide. For Splash Academy hours, check the app once you’re aboard.
Spice H2O, an adults-only lounge area on Deck 17 with hot tubs and a bar, is listed by third parties, so check the age limit before you plan around it. Vibe Beach Club is reportedly extra-cost. The Mandara Spa’s Thermal Suite (vitality pool, heated whirlpool, salt room, steam room, sauna) also costs extra, because relaxation is never actually free.
Fun and shows
The activity list is gloriously silly. NCL lists Bliss Speedway (a two-level race track, at sea, on a boat), go-karts, a nine-hole mini-golf course and 678 Ocean Place. Bars include the Observation Lounge, Horizon Lounge, Skyline Bar and The Jungle, an English pub. The Waterfront is a quarter-mile oceanfront promenade. The only show NCL lists for certain is The Choir of Man, so check the app for the rest of the January lineup.
On cleanliness: our database shows a CDC Vessel Sanitation Program score of 100 from the February 8, 2026 inspection. That’s a perfect score, and you can run your own check with our CDC inspection lookup.
The Ports
Three stops, three very different days. The times below are the ship’s listed arrival and departure times, not all-aboard times. All-aboard times aren’t in the timetables, so confirm yours with NCL before you wander off. The ship waits for no one, however cute the souvenir.
| Date | Port | Arrive | Depart |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tue Jan 19 | Port Canaveral, FL | 6:00 AM | 9:00 PM |
| Wed Jan 20 | Great Stirrup Cay, Bahamas | 9:30 AM | 6:00 PM |
| Thu Jan 21 | Nassau, Bahamas | 7:00 AM | 5:00 PM |
Itineraries can change, so recheck ncl.com closer to sailing.
Port Canaveral (Orlando), January 19
This is an industrial cruise hub, not a walkable town, so every plan involves transport. NCL uses Terminal 5 (9245 Charles Rowland Dr) and Terminal 10 (9005 Charles Rowland Dr); check the app for yours. The call may be marketed as “Orlando,” which is the same port, just wearing a fancier name tag.
- Kennedy Space Center is about 20 to 30 minutes away (sources differ). It is the obvious pick, with the Rocket Garden, the Atlantis orbiter and the Astronaut Hall of Fame.
- Cocoa Beach is about 15 minutes away.
- Orlando airport is about 45 minutes away, and the theme parks are further, so a full park day in a 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM window is tight. Ambitious, but tight.
Ship excursions guarantee your return to the ship, while independent trips carry the all-aboard risk. Current excursion prices are on ncl.com shore excursions.
Great Stirrup Cay, January 20
The island is mid-glow-up, so don’t promise yourself a perfect beach day. NCL is building a permanent two-ship pier due for 2027 visits and has invested at least $150M. The upgrades include the 1.4-acre Great Life Lagoon pool and the adults-only Vibe Shore Club, and 15 NCL ships are scheduled to call in 2027.
- The 19-slide Great Tides Waterpark was slated to open by the end of 2026 with no exact date. Treat it as unconfirmed for January 20.
- Early-February 2026 winter storms damaged the temporary pier and pool, and one call was swapped for Cabo Rojo, Dominican Republic.
- Choppy seas have historically caused missed calls here. Check NCL notices as sailing nears.
- The planned ban on using drink packages on the island was paused indefinitely in March 2026. Free at Sea and More at Sea guests keep their beverage inclusions there.
Nassau, January 21
Nassau rewards a plan and punishes wandering. The US State Department reportedly kept The Bahamas at Level 2 in a July 28, 2026 update (via Cruise Hive). Crime is the main concern, concentrated in Nassau. Read the advisory at travel.state.gov before you sail.
- Stay alert in the “Over the Hill” area, about two blocks south of the cruise terminal.
- The advisory flags insufficiently regulated boating and jet skis, plus sexual assaults on and near downtown beaches.
- It recommends enrolling in STEP and not physically resisting a robbery.
- A ship excursion is the lower-risk way to do anything on the water.
Walkable options near the pier include Bay Street, Parliament Square and the straw market. The Queen’s Staircase has 66 steps, with Fort Fincastle above it (allow 30 to 60 minutes). Junkanoo Beach is free and a 10 to 15 minute walk west. Nassau set a single-day record of more than 33,000 visitors on June 8, 2026, so expect crowds at Atlantis and the beaches, and pack your patience next to the sunscreen.
Transport prices are dated blog estimates, so agree a fare before you get in anything. A taxi to Atlantis runs about $10 to $15 or a flat ~$20 depending on the source. A water taxi to Paradise Island is about $6 round trip, and the jitney bus is about $1.25. US dollars are widely accepted, and the Bahamian dollar is pegged 1:1, so no mental math gymnastics.
Conditions and Packing for January
A New York January high and a Nassau January high are more than 30 degrees apart, so pack two wardrobes. One for the shivering, one for the sunscreen.
| Place | January high | January low | Other |
|---|---|---|---|
| New York (NOAA 1991–2020 normals) | 39.5°F | 27.9°F | 3.64 in precipitation; 8.8 in snow |
| Cape Kennedy station (2012–2021, secondary source) | 73°F | 53°F | 2.17 in precipitation |
| Nassau (approximate, weather blogs) | Low-to-mid 70s | Mid 60s | December to April is the dry season |
Hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30, so mid-January is outside it. The real winter risk is non-tropical. A nor’easter in October 2025 suspended New York Harbor pilotage and delayed sailings, so a January snowstorm could slow embarkation or the 7:00 AM return on the 24th. That’s a risk to keep in mind, not a forecast.
Seasonal outlooks lean warmer and wetter for the Northeast, but that tells you nothing about any particular day. Weather outlooks are great at vibes and terrible at specifics.
Sea days and queasiness
There’s no seasickness statistic for this route, but there is a documented rough patch. The Gulf Stream off Cape Hatteras is a known rough spot: in February 2016, Anthem of the Seas met a hurricane-force storm there on a New York-area-to-Bahamas run. My guess, not data, is that the first two sea days heading south and the last two heading north are the lumpiest.
What to pack
- New York: winter coat, hat, gloves and boots, with snow possible.
- Sea days: an extra layer, since the open Atlantic runs cooler and windier than port days.
- Port days: light layers for the 70s, a light rain jacket and sunscreen.
- Swimwear: bring it, but Bahamas sea water is cool in January (roughly 70 to 72°F from one uncorroborated source), so swimming is optional and bravery is encouraged.
- Motion-sickness remedies, especially for days 2 and 3 and the way home.
Money
The base fare doesn’t cover alcohol, sodas, specialty dining, Wi-Fi or gratuities. Surprise! (It isn’t, really.) Listed fares for this sailing swing wildly between resellers, with different taxes and cabin categories, so we won’t quote one. Check the Cruise Planner for your actual price.
| Item | Rate | 8-night total (per person) |
|---|---|---|
| Service charge, Club Balcony Suite and below | $20/day | $160 |
| Service charge, The Haven and Suites | $25/day | $200 |
| Drink-package gratuity (reported, unconfirmed) | $28.50/day | $228 |
The totals above are per person and assume all 8 nights are billed, so confirm the day count. Terminal parking is a separate per-vehicle cost (see the parking table above), not a per-person one. The service charge applies to guests 3 and older, can be prepaid up to 24 hours before sailing, and is 100% refundable if you cancel the cruise. A couple in a standard cabin would pay $320 total. See our tipping guide for who gets what.
Free at Sea
The value question comes down to how much you’d actually drink. Be honest with yourself here. Cruise Hive describes Free at Sea as an unlimited open bar plus three specialty meals. For 7 to 8 night sailings, those meals are $20 cover charge each, with gratuities included. For bookings made on or after August 26, 2026, the dining perk extends to guests 3 to 8 in the same cabin, and children 2 to 12 eat free from the kids’ menu.
- Cruise Hive reports the pre-paid drink gratuity as $28.50 per person per day for sailings of 6+ nights (the $32 rate applies to 2 to 5 nights). Over 8 days that’s $228 per person, or $456 for two.
- Add the standard service charge of $160 per person ($320 for a couple in a standard cabin), and a couple could owe $776 on top of the fare: $320 plus $456.
- Free at Sea Plus is $49.99 per person per day in US sources, adding top-shelf spirits and streaming Wi-Fi.
- Check that Free at Sea is offered on your sailing and cabin category. Wi-Fi minutes under it are reported as either 75 or 150, so read your booking.
Bringing your own
Only wine and champagne may come aboard. Sorry, the flask is staying home. Corkage is $15 per 750 ml bottle and $30 per 1,500 ml magnum if you drink it in a restaurant, public room or stateroom. Boxed wine is banned, and guests with a beverage package pay no corkage. Alcohol bought ashore is held until the last night or morning of debarkation. Details are in our alcohol guide.
Documents
This is a closed loop from New York, so a passport isn’t mandatory for US citizens, but NCL strongly recommends one. Without a passport, you need proof of citizenship plus a government-issued photo ID.
- Accepted proof includes a state-certified birth certificate, a naturalization or citizenship certificate, a consular report of birth abroad, an enhanced driver’s license, or a passport card.
- Not accepted: baptismal papers, hospital birth certificates, and copies or photos.
- US citizens under 16 don’t need a photo ID.
- Non-US citizens need a valid passport that doesn’t expire within six months of the cruise’s return. Green card holders need their Alien Resident Card and a passport.
- Visa rules for the Bahamas vary by nationality. Non-US readers should check with the Bahamas Department of Immigration and NCL.
Minors and medication
Anyone under 21 must share a cabin with someone 21 or older. The exception is two married guests under 21 who show proof of marriage at the pier. A minor travelling with a non-parent needs a Parent/Guardian Consent Form signed by both living parents or guardians, with ID copies. Divorced, separated or adoptive parents should carry custody documents.
On medication, the official NCL pages we could read gave no prescription policy. Keep medications in original labelled containers in your carry-on, which is common-sense practice rather than a confirmed rule. A secondary summary of NCL’s prohibited-items page says illegal drugs are banned, including medical marijuana and CBD/THC products. Read the full official list at ncl.com before you pack. For sealed water needed for a medical device or infant needs, email [email protected] for pre-approval.
FAQ: Norwegian Bliss from New York, January 16, 2027
Where does Norwegian Bliss dock in New York?
Most likely Manhattan Cruise Terminal, 711 12th Avenue, per NCL’s New York directions. A third-party aggregator names it for Bliss’s 2027 sailings, but it isn’t confirmed for this date, so check your booking documents. Cars enter on 55th Street only. A single ship typically uses Pier 90 at 52nd Street, with check-in on Level Two, per Cruise Critic.
Do I need a passport for a Bahamas cruise from New York?
US citizens don’t strictly need one on this closed-loop route. NCL accepts a valid passport, or proof of citizenship plus a government photo ID, such as a state-certified birth certificate with a driver’s license. NCL still strongly recommends a passport in case you miss the ship or must fly home from a foreign port. Non-US citizens always need a passport valid at least six months past the return date.
When does online check-in open for the January 16, 2027 sailing?
Online Check-In should open December 26, 2026 (21 days out) and close January 13, 2027 (3 days out). NCL strongly recommends finishing at least 4 days ahead, so by January 12. You’ll reserve an arrival time that prints on your eDocs, which become unavailable 72 hours before sailing, so download and print them early.
Can I bring wine on Norwegian Bliss?
Yes, but wine and champagne only. Boxed wine and all other alcohol are prohibited. Corkage is $15 per 750 ml bottle and $30 per 1,500 ml magnum if you drink it in a restaurant, public room or stateroom. A beverage package, including Free at Sea, waives corkage. Wine is screened at embarkation, and you must be 21 or older.
How much is parking at Manhattan Cruise Terminal?
The terminal’s listed rate is $45 per night, as last published in 2023, so 8 nights is about $360 (an estimate). It is credit card only, parking opens at 8 am, and checkout is at 3 pm. Off-site lots run under $30 per day per Cruise Hive, with Manhattan Cruise Parking from $27 a day plus $40 for valet pickup. All of it is subject to change.
Is Nassau safe for cruise passengers?
Use common sense and read the advisory. The US State Department reportedly kept The Bahamas at Level 2 in a July 28, 2026 update, with crime the main concern in Nassau. It urges alertness in the “Over the Hill” area, about two blocks south of the cruise terminal, and flags unregulated boating and jet skis. Check travel.state.gov before you sail.
What is the daily service charge on Norwegian Bliss?
NCL lists $20 per person per day for Club Balcony Suite and below, and $25 for The Haven and Suites, for guests 3 and older on bookings from January 1, 2023. If it applies to all 8 nights, that’s $160 or $200 per person; confirm the day count. You can prepay up to 24 hours before sailing, and it’s fully refundable if you cancel the cruise.
The Bottom Line
This sailing is a good one to prep early, because the route is third-party confirmed and the deadlines are real. Confirm the ports on ncl.com, lock in your restaurants now, and finish online check-in by January 12. Pack for a 28°F average low in Manhattan and the low 70s in the Bahamas, and treat Great Stirrup Cay and Nassau as days to plan rather than wing.
Budget for the service charge (and the drink gratuity if you take Free at Sea) on top of the fare. Then go enjoy the go-karts, because a ship with a race track deserves a little chaos. For more routes, browse our Norwegian Bliss itineraries.
Norwegian Bliss Cruise Ship Ports of Call: Jan 16, 2027 From New York
Short answer: Bliss calls at three ports on this 8-night round trip. They are Port Canaveral, Florida; Great Stirrup Cay, Bahamas; and Nassau, Bahamas. Everything else is sea, which is a lot of sea. Norwegian’s own ship page lists no 2027 itineraries, so these times come from published timetables (CruiseTimetables and CruiseSheet), not from NCL. Check your booking on ncl.com before you plan around any of it.
| Date | Day | Port | Hours (local) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sat, Jan 16 | 1 | New York | Departs 4:00 PM |
| Sun–Mon, Jan 17–18 | 2–3 | At sea | — |
| Tue, Jan 19 | 4 | Port Canaveral, Florida | 6:00 AM–9:00 PM |
| Wed, Jan 20 | 5 | Great Stirrup Cay, Bahamas | 9:30 AM–6:00 PM |
| Thu, Jan 21 | 6 | Nassau, Bahamas | 7:00 AM–5:00 PM |
| Fri–Sat, Jan 22–23 | 7–8 | At sea | — |
| Sun, Jan 24 | 9 | New York | Arrives about 7:00 AM |
What each stop is good for
- Port Canaveral (15 hours in port): This is the longest stop, so it’s the one for a big day out. The timetable labels the cruise “Great Stirrup Cay, Orlando & Nassau,” because many guests head inland toward Orlando. Book any excursion through NCL, or leave a generous buffer if you go it alone. The ship won’t wait for your theme-park queue to get dramatic.
- Great Stirrup Cay (8.5 hours): This is Norwegian’s private island. Until recently it was a tender port. Norwegian Getaway became the first ship to use the island’s new pier on December 28, 2025, and NCL says guests no longer have to tender from ship to shore. The Great Tides waterpark, with 19 slides, has also arrived: NCL set its opening for Sept. 4, 2026, and the island’s page on ncl.com now lists it as open. Access is by day pass, bought through your myNCL account once your cruise is booked, and NCL says prices and availability vary, so check ncl.com for your sailing. Waterpark hours vary by sailing and are announced onboard. For a comparison, see our Norwegian Getaway Bahamas verdict.
- Nassau (10 hours): This is the classic Bahamas port day. Aim to be back onboard early. Our Norwegian Bliss ship page has the wider ship details.
The Bimini catch
Not every Bliss sailing from New York is identical. Some listings show an 8-night version with Bimini instead of Nassau. One example is the Feb 19, 2028 sailing. The Jan 16, 2027 departure shows Nassau in every timetable I found, but ports can change, so confirm yours.
Don’t mix up the dates
Norwegian runs the same route the following week, on Jan 24, 2027. That sailing is the same ship and the same ports, but the port days shift: Port Canaveral on Jan 27, Great Stirrup Cay on Jan 28 and Nassau on Jan 29. If your calendar says Jan 19 for Florida, you’re on the right ship at the right time.
