Norwegian Escape leaves Port Canaveral on Friday 22 January 2027 and is back the following Friday, 29 January. Here’s the plot twist: Escape is reported to have just climbed out of an October 2026 drydock (a very long, very expensive spa visit, for a ship). The loop has two sea days and four ports, one of them NCL’s private island, where a new multi-ship pier opened in December 2025. One confession before we go further: our own database has no port list for this sailing, so every port detail below comes from outside schedules and wears an “unconfirmed” badge until NCL says otherwise.
Start Here
- Now: Dig out every passport and ID and look at the dates. Non-US passports must be valid beyond 29 July 2027.
- Now: Open My NCL and check dining and show booking. Sources quote 90 or 120 days ahead, which works out to 24 October or 24 September, so the window is already open either way. Go poke around.
- 1 January 2027: Online check-in opens, 21 days out. Finish it by 18 January.
- 18 January: NCL asks for at least 4 days’ notice for airport transfers, and it recommends finishing check-in by then.
- 19 January: This is the last day to add Free at Sea specialty dining (3 days out) or select Free at Sea Plus (72 hours out).

The Sailing at a Glance
Seven nights, round trip from Port Canaveral, with the route per third-party schedules and not yet confirmed by NCL. The route row is the one wearing the “trust, but verify” hat. Everything else in the table is from our database, NCL pages or the port itself.

What to Do Now and the Deadlines That Bite
Nearly every cutoff falls between 18 and 21 January, so set reminders now. Future you will be very grateful, and present you can go back to scrolling. The dining window is already open under every version of the rule we found.
| Date | What happens |
|---|---|
| Now | Check dining and show booking in My NCL (sources conflict on 90 vs 120 days) |
| 1 Jan 2027 | Online check-in opens (22 Jan minus 21 days) |
| 18 Jan | Safe target for check-in; minimum notice for NCL airport transfers |
| 19 Jan | NCL’s stated check-in cutoff; last day to add Free at Sea dining or Plus |
| 21 Jan | Prepaid service charge available up to 24 hours before sailing |
Online check-in is the homework portion of the trip. You enter your passport details, flight details, onboard payment card and a pre-cruise security selfie (yes, a selfie, and nobody is grading your pre-vacation face). It is also where you pick your pier arrival slot and watch the safety video. Your eDocs boarding pass appears after check-in. NCL gives two timings for that (about 24 hours after completion, or 21 days before sailing), so print or save a copy for every guest either way.
Download the NCL app and link your booking through My NCL. It handles excursions, dinner reservations, show seats, the itinerary and the daily newsletter. The page says it works automatically on ship Wi-Fi but doesn’t say whether that’s free, so don’t count on it.
Embarkation Day at Port Canaveral
Check your eDocs for your terminal, because Escape sails from Terminal 5 or Terminal 10 and which one you get on this date isn’t confirmed. A 2023 trade report placed Escape at Terminal 10, which makes that likely but not certain.
- Terminal 5 is at 9245 Charles Rowland Dr, and Terminal 10 is at 9005 Charles Rowland Dr.
- Both are “A terminals” on the north side, reached via Exit 54A.
- The port warns that assignments can change, so confirm in the app.
Arrive near your assigned slot, not at dawn with a lawn chair. NCL assigns your arrival time when you complete online check-in.
- Checked in online: arrive no later than 1 hour before the embarkation time on your documents. Not checked in: 2 hours.
- You must be checked in and on board at least 1 hour before the departure time on your documents, or you “will not be permitted to sail.” If departure is 4:00 PM as listed, that line is 3:00 PM. Dramatic, but true.
- If you miss online check-in, NCL says to arrive after noon and at least 2 hours before sailing.
- Reviewer reports on Escape range from about 35 minutes (arrived 10:45, on board 11:20) to nearly two hours of waiting. Treat both as anecdotes.
Parking is $20 per day plus tax, and the arrival and departure days both count. This sailing is 8 parking days, so $160 before tax (8 × $20). Yes, both bookends get billed.
- Parking opens at 10 AM on embarkation day, and garages fill first-come, first-served.
- Payment is on entry by Visa, MasterCard, Amex or Discover. Cash isn’t accepted, and there are no reservations or pre-pay.
- Rates can change. The port’s number is 321-783-7831.
- Off-site lots exist, with one guide quoting about $11/day plus a shuttle. That figure is unverified for 2027.
Orlando (MCO) is the usual gateway, about 45 minutes away via State Road 528 East, which has tolls (naturally). Melbourne (MLB) is about 40 minutes and Sanford (SFB) about an hour. These per-person shuttle prices are third-party and unverified for 2027:
| Option | Per person |
|---|---|
| Go Port shuttle | about $29.99 |
| Cruise-line shuttles (per same source) | $36–$39 |
| Average, July 2026 FAQ | about $28 |
No official rideshare or taxi fare is published that we can quote, so check your app. For the night before, NCL says hotels in Cape Canaveral and Cocoa Beach often include free or cheaper cruise parking and shuttles. Guides name the Hampton Inn & Suites Cape Canaveral Cruise Port (one lists a $12 per person port shuttle), the Hilton Garden Inn Cape Canaveral and the Country Inn & Suites by Radisson Port Canaveral. Rates for 21–22 January aren’t verified here, so ask each hotel directly.
The Ship and How to Work It
Escape is a 164,600 GT Breakaway Plus Class ship with 20 decks, and the post-refit venue list is the biggest thing to double-check. Picture a freshly renovated house whose floor plan hasn’t been posted yet. Our database lists 4,266 passengers and 1,733 crew. NCL’s own ship page quotes 4,218 at double occupancy, which is why you’ll see different totals around the web. The latest CDC score is 88 out of 100, from the 24 August 2026 inspection. For the quick profile, see our Norwegian Escape ship page.
NCL’s ship page now showcases Palomar, an expanded Vibe Beach Club, a Starbucks in the Atrium and a pickleball court. Trade reports put the October 2026 drydock at 16 days. Other changes are reported but not confirmed by NCL, so don’t plan around them:
- Palomar replacing Bayamo, possibly taking space from Pincho Tapas Bar.
- Moderno Churrascaria removed to give Cagney’s more room.
- Redesigned staterooms, plus new venues called Founders Bar and Chef’s Studio.
Older guides list venues such as Le Bistro, La Cucina and Teppanyaki, and we can’t vouch for them in 2027. NCL’s current page lists Food Republic, Cagney’s, Palomar, The Haven Restaurant, The Bake Shop, The Waterfront, The District Brewhouse and Starbucks. It doesn’t say which are included and which cost extra, so open the app’s venue list before you build a dining plan.
With only two sea days, 23 and 27 January, plan your big ship activities for those. The other days you’ll be busy sprinting for taxis. NCL’s page lists these:
- Aqua Park with Free Fall, which NCL calls the fastest waterslides at sea.
- A ropes course with a “walk the plank” experience.
- Sky Rail, a zipline with five zip tracks over the ocean.
- A new pickleball court, and Mandara Spa and Salon.
- Vibe Beach Club, which is 18+, with a pool and an oversized hot tub.
The Haven is a suite category with premium service, not an adults-only zone. For nights, The Jungle (an English pub) hosts The Choir of Man per NCL’s page. Other bars include The Cellars Wine Bar, The District Brewhouse and Howl at the Moon. The January show lineup isn’t confirmed, so check the app after check-in.
Kids’ clubs are built around sea days. Guppies takes ages 6 months to 3 years, Splash Academy takes 3–12 and Entourage takes 13–17, with age set at the time of sailing.
- Splash Academy and Entourage are complimentary and run only while the ship is sailing, not docked or anchored.
- Late Night Services run 10 PM to midnight for an hourly fee.
- Late pick-up costs $1.00 per minute per child. Set an alarm.
- Replacement bracelets cost $5 (Splash Academy) and $10 (Entourage).
Guppies hours and fees aren’t confirmed. NCL says hours can change without notice, so check the app for port-day arrangements before counting on childcare on port days.
The Ports
Four ports are listed, and the “ship leaves” times below are departure times, not all-aboard deadlines. The all-aboard time for each port isn’t in the schedules we have, so confirm it in the NCL app and be back well before the listed departure. Two third-party schedules agree on this table, but NCL itineraries are subject to change, so confirm in the app.
| Date | Port | Ship in | Ship leaves | Time in port |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sun 24 Jan | Puerto Plata (Amber Cove) | 9:00 AM | 4:00 PM | 7 hrs |
| Mon 25 Jan | St. Thomas, USVI | 11:00 AM | 7:00 PM | 8 hrs |
| Tue 26 Jan | Tortola, BVI | 6:45 AM | 2:00 PM | 7 hrs 15 min |
| Thu 28 Jan | Great Stirrup Cay | 10:00 AM | 6:00 PM | 8 hrs |
Puerto Plata (Amber Cove)
Amber Cove is a purpose-built cruise complex with no beach of its own. It offers ziplining, kayaking, paddleboarding and private cabanas. The historic center is about 15–20 minutes away by car, so it isn’t walkable.
- Options off-property include the Damajagua waterfalls, a town tour (Fort San Felipe, the Amber Museum, the Malecon), Ocean World and horseback riding.
- Taxis aren’t metered, so agree the fare first. US dollars are widely accepted, but change may come back in pesos, so bring small bills.
- With 7 hours in port, a ship excursion guarantees your return. Independent tours are usually cheaper, but you carry the timing risk, and the ship will not wait for your sunset.
- OSAC’s January 2026 report puts the US advisory at Level 2, “exercise increased caution,” because of crime. Check travel.state.gov for the current level.
St. Thomas
Your dock isn’t published yet, so check the NCL app the night before. It will be either Havensight (West India Company dock) or Crown Bay. A niche source reports Havensight dredging from September 2026, with completion targeted for mid-2027, so expect possible dock or transport changes.
- From Havensight, the mall and Skyride are about a 5-minute walk.
- Downtown Charlotte Amalie is about 1.7 miles from Havensight and 2 miles from Crown Bay. Most people take a taxi, and Crown Bay has fewer, so allow extra time to get back.
- Taxi figures conflict (one guide says most rides are under $5, another cites about $7 into town and $10–$15 per person to Magens Bay), so confirm the fare before you get in.
- Magens Bay is about 4 miles away, with entry reported at $5 (unverified). Coki Point is about 7 miles from Havensight and known for snorkeling.
- The currency is US dollars. You dock at 11 AM, so go straight to the beach if that’s the plan.
Tortola
Tortola has the earliest departure of the four, so your beach time ends first. A port guide says ships dock at Road Town beside Cyril B. Romney Tortola Pier Park, and downtown is a 10–15 minute walk. Confirm docking for Escape in the app.
- Cane Garden Bay (lively, with bars) and Brewers Bay (quieter, good snorkeling) are about a 20-minute taxi ride.
- Taxis run about $10–$16 per person each way and are priced per person, so confirm before getting in.
- Callwood Rum Distillery offers a tour and tasting for $5.
- Jost Van Dyke and Virgin Gorda’s Baths take roughly 2 hours each way by taxi and ferry, so they’re tight in a 7 hr 15 min call.
- The BVI uses the US dollar. Don’t plan on walking to West End, because it takes hours.
Great Stirrup Cay
NCL’s new multi-ship pier opened on 28 December 2025, with Norwegian Getaway the first ship to dock. Cruise Hive’s 2027 update lists no closures for January 2027. Whether Escape docks or tenders on the day isn’t confirmed, so follow the onboard notice and the app.
- The 19-slide Great Tides Waterpark is due by the end of 2026. No source states whether it is free or paid.
- NCL paused its plan to end ship drink-package use ashore in March 2026. Free at Sea and More at Sea guests keep the same beverage inclusions ashore as onboard.
Conditions and Packing for Late January
Hurricanes aren’t a realistic worry, but cool Florida mornings and winter cold fronts are. Yes, Florida. Yes, you’ll want a sweater. The Atlantic season runs 1 June to 30 November, so this sailing falls outside it. The NHC notes that off-season storms do occasionally form, but we won’t put a number on January risk.
| Port Canaveral in January | Figure |
|---|---|
| Average high / low | about 70°F / 53°F |
| January mean | 61°F |
| Rain | about 2.2 in over roughly 6.2 days |
| Wind | about 12.1 mph, mostly from the north |
| Sea temperature | about 71°F |
A second source gives a 68°F high, 52°F low and 2.6 in of rain. Freezing mornings happen in some winters, and one forum poster reported 28–30°F on a January trip. Treat that as anecdote, but pack a real layer for the sailaway and the early return.
Seasickness is possible on the open-water legs but can’t be forecast this far out. The Bahamas Met Department’s January 2025 log described a cold front with “brisk winds and rough seas,” so a cooler or cancelled beach day at Great Stirrup Cay is possible. Reliable climate figures for the island ports aren’t included here, so check a forecast a week out.
- A light jacket or sweater, long trousers and a windbreaker for open decks.
- Swimwear for the island ports, plus a layer for the cooler moments. Check a forecast before deciding how brave to be about the water.
- Small bills for taxis in the Dominican Republic.
Money
Budget the service charge first, because it isn’t in the fare. The fare, it turns out, is not the whole story. The charge applies to guests aged 3 or older, and prepay is available up to 24 hours before sailing.
| Item | Rate | 7-night total |
|---|---|---|
| Service charge, Club Balcony Suite and below | $20 per person per day | $140 per person |
| Service charge, The Haven and suites | $25 per person per day | $175 per person |
| Free at Sea drink gratuity | $28.50 per person per day* | $199.50 per person |
| Free at Sea Plus upgrade | $49.99 per person per day | $349.93 per person |
| Voyage Wi-Fi Pass | $29.99 per stateroom per day | $209.93 per stateroom |
| Streaming Wi-Fi pass | $39.99 per stateroom per day | $279.93 per stateroom |
| Port Canaveral parking | $20 per day plus tax | $160 before tax (8 days) |
*The May 2026 increase to $32 applied to 2–5 night sailings only, so $28.50 should still apply to a 7-night sailing. Confirm against your booking. Wi-Fi prices are dynamic and may differ in the app. The service charge doesn’t cover bar, beverage or specialty dining gratuities.
Free at Sea is a promotion, so check that your fare includes it. NCL lists it for reservations created on or after 5 November 2025.
- Open bar for ages 21+, working onboard and at Great Stirrup Cay. Ages 3–20 in spots 1 or 2 get soda and juice.
- Three specialty meals on a 7-night sailing, with covers listed at $40–$60 each. That’s worth roughly $120–$180 per person (a value estimate, not a price).
- 150 minutes of Starlink internet per guest, and a $50 shore excursion credit per port for the first guest on NCL-booked tours.
- Specialty dining can’t be bought onboard. For guests 3–8 in a cabin, it applies to bookings made on or after 26 August 2026. Earlier bookings cover guests 1–2.
If you drink, a $199.50 per-person gratuity against drinks averaging about $15 breaks even at a little over 13 drinks. That’s a rough estimate from NCL’s own “$15 average” line, and yes, you can do the maths on a cocktail napkin. The Plus upgrade at $349.93 per person is hard to justify unless you want top-shelf drinks and streaming Wi-Fi. The excursion credit is per port, so check how many of the four ports have bookable tours. If you’d rather pack your own wine, the corkage rules are in Documents and Rules below.
Documents and Rules
Take a passport, because it is the one answer that works under every NCL page we found. Boring advice, reliably good advice. The sailing is a closed loop from a US port, and NCL’s official rule offers a second path for US citizens: proof of citizenship plus a government photo ID. Accepted proof includes a state-certified birth certificate, naturalization or citizenship certificate, consular report of birth abroad, passport card or enhanced driver’s license. Hospital birth certificates, Puerto Rico birth certificates issued before 7/1/10 and photocopies are not accepted. US citizens under 16 don’t need photo ID but still need proof of citizenship.
- Non-US citizens: the passport must not expire within 6 months of return, so it must be valid beyond 29 July 2027.
- Visa Waiver Program nationals need an ESTA or US visa before boarding.
- Chinese 10-year B1/B2 holders need EVUS enrollment.
- Green card holders need both the Alien Resident Card and a passport from their country of citizenship.
- NCL notes a presidential proclamation effective 1 January 2026 restricting entry for certain nationalities, without listing them.
For port entry, NCL’s Dominican Republic guidance says guests visiting only as a port of call don’t need a visa to go ashore. The tourist-card fees apply to embarkation and disembarkation guests, which likely means they don’t apply to Amber Cove callers. No fee or form for the USVI, BVI or Bahamas is confirmed, so check your nationality’s requirements with NCL before you go.
Pack your medication in your carry-on, in original containers. NCL says to bring enough for the voyage plus 10 extra days, with a copy of the prescription. Narcotics need a valid prescription. Temperature-sensitive medicine can go in a personal cooler no larger than 12″ x 12″ x 12″, or in the Medical Center during clinic hours. Guests can’t sail if they will be 24 weeks pregnant or more at the end of the cruise.
The prohibited list has 36 items, and several catch people out. It includes:
- THC and CBD products, drones, candles and incense burners.
- Knives with blades over 4 inches (10.16 cm).
- Clothing irons and coffee machines with hot plates, and walkie-talkies.
- Hoverboards, scooters and Segways.
Hair dryers, flat irons and curling irons are “allowed with caution” and may be removed and returned on the last day. NCL’s page doesn’t mention vapes or power strips, so ask before packing them.
Only wine and champagne may be brought aboard. Bottles must be sealed or corked, and guests must be 21+. Corkage is $15 per 750 ml bottle and $30 per 1,500 ml magnum, and it’s waived with a beverage package. NCL’s page states no bottle limit, though older reports said two, so treat that as unconfirmed. No water, soda or juice, except factory-sealed purified or distilled water for medical devices or infant formula.
FAQ: Norwegian Escape from Port Canaveral on 22 January 2027
When does online check-in open for the 22 January 2027 Norwegian cruise?
NCL’s app page says check-in opens 21 days before sailing, which is 1 January 2027. NCL says it closes 3 days before (19 January), but it strongly recommends finishing at least 4 days out. Treat 18 January as your deadline, since check-in is also where you reserve your pier arrival slot.
How much is parking at Port Canaveral for a 7-night cruise?
The port charges $20 per day plus tax for cars and RVs, and counts both the arrival and departure days. This sailing is 8 days, so $160 before tax. Payment is due on entry by card only, with no cash, no reservations and no pre-pay. Parking opens at 10 AM on embarkation day.
Which ports does Norwegian Escape visit on 22 January 2027?
Third-party schedules list Puerto Plata (Amber Cove) on 24 January, St. Thomas on 25 January, Tortola on 26 January and Great Stirrup Cay on 28 January. Sea days fall on 23 and 27 January. NCL itineraries are subject to change, so confirm in your booking and the NCL app.
Can I bring wine on Norwegian Escape?
Yes, but wine and champagne are the only alcohol allowed. Bottles must be sealed or corked, and guests must be 21+. Corkage is $15 per 750 ml bottle and $30 per 1,500 ml magnum, waived for guests with a beverage package. Boxed wine is banned, and NCL’s page states no bottle limit, so check before you pack.
Do kids’ clubs run on port days on Norwegian Escape?
NCL says Splash Academy (ages 3–12) and Entourage (13–17) are complimentary but run only while the ship is sailing, not docked or anchored. That makes 23 and 27 January the reliable days. A separate NCL FAQ hints at port-day arrangements, so check the app before relying on childcare on 24, 25, 26 or 28 January.
Do I need a passport for a Norwegian cruise from Port Canaveral?
US citizens can use a valid passport or proof of citizenship plus a government photo ID on this round trip, per NCL. NCL strongly recommends a passport for everyone, and one regional NCL page says US citizens must carry one. Non-US citizens need a passport valid beyond 29 July 2027 (six months past the return date).
How much is the service charge for 7 nights on Norwegian Escape?
It’s $20 per person per day for Club Balcony Suite and below, or $140 per person over seven days. For The Haven and suites it’s $25, or $175. It applies to guests aged 3 or older, is per person rather than per cabin, and can be prepaid up to 24 hours before sailing.
The Bottom Line
This is a well-structured Eastern Caribbean week with a few unknowns to resolve before you fly. The unknowns are the terminal, your St. Thomas dock, your arrival slot, the post-drydock venue list and the final itinerary. Get online check-in done by 18 January, set aside $160 for parking if you drive, and budget $140 or $175 per person for the service charge. Then check the NCL app the night before each port, and let the ship do the dramatic part. Still comparing options?
