The Tea
Port Canaveral is the cruise industry's equivalent of a theme park — which makes sense, given it's basically in Disney's backyard. The port itself is efficient and well-run, but don't let anyone tell you the area around it is "walkable." Unless you consider walking across a six-lane highway to reach a strip mall a leisurely stroll.
The real tea? Parking here is a steal compared to Miami or Fort Lauderdale. The port's biggest flex is its proximity to Kennedy Space Center — and its biggest weakness is that getting there from Orlando without a car involves a $50+ Uber ride. The cruise lines won't mention that the "convenient Orlando port" is actually 45 minutes from anywhere in Orlando.
Pro move: Book parking through the port authority directly (not third-party lots that advertise on billboards along the Beachline). And if you're flying in, just know that MCO to the port is not the quick hop they imply in the brochures.
