What Norwegian Aqua's Autumn Caribbean Season Is Actually Like

Norwegian Aqua (2025-built, 156,300 gross tons, Prima Plus class, 20 decks, listed at 3,571 passengers and 1,388 crew) spends the autumn doing one job. She runs 7-night round trips from Miami, with a sailing every Sunday from November 1 through January 31. Our database doesn't record port lists for these sailings, so everything below comes from third-party listings and our own cross-checking. Confirm your exact sailing with Norwegian before you book. Port lists do change.

The two itineraries you'll actually meet

We confirmed that pattern for Nov 8, 15 and 22 and for all four December departures (Dec 6, 13, 20 and 27). We did not confirm it individually for Nov 29 or the January sailings. One aggregator lists the Great Stirrup Cay run as Nov 8 through Mar 28, 2027, which is 21 sailings.

Weather and sea conditions

Atlantic hurricane season officially ends November 30, so the November sailings still sit inside it. Late-season storms do happen, and they tend to form in the Caribbean. Hurricane Rafael hit western Cuba as a Category 3 in November 2024. Nothing says this year will be a repeat. It's just the reason your travel insurance should cover itinerary changes. The eastern route also keeps Aqua away from the western Caribbean, where late-season storms have most often formed. By December the dry season arrives. Third-party estimates put Puerto Plata at roughly low-80s°F daytime highs and low-70s at night, and I'd treat those as ballpark. Expect warm water, plenty of sun, and the odd quick tropical shower. Seas are generally friendlier than in summer storm season, but it's still open ocean on the two sea days.

What the ports are worth

• Puerto Plata (Amber Cove): A purpose-built cruise port, so you get resort-style convenience. If you want real Dominican Republic, book an excursion.
• St. Thomas: Duty-free shopping and good beaches. It's the busiest stop, and it's loud.
• Tortola: Quieter and more laid-back, and the best of the four for a beach day.
• Great Stirrup Cay: Norwegian's private Bahamas island. It's a pure sand-and-sun finale, and a perfectly fine one.

The Christmas and New Year quirk

On the Dec 20 sailing, Puerto Plata is Dec 22, St. Thomas is Dec 23, Tortola is Dec 24 and Great Stirrup Cay is Dec 26. No port is listed for Dec 25, so Christmas Day looks like a sea day. That's a nice one for a pool deck with minimal chaos. The Dec 27 departure runs to Jan 3 and straddles New Year, but we couldn't confirm its ports.

Pricing and who should book what

Autumn is shoulder season, and the prices show it. One agency lists the Nov 8 to Mar 28 run from $439 per person (taxes included, double occupancy). The Nov 1 western sailing is listed from $559 per person. Holiday weeks are a different planet. A sampled aggregator price for the Dec 20 sailing was $1,139 for an inside cabin, though that figure may be stale and doesn't say whether it's per person. The 7-night length suits first-timers who want a proper trip rather than a taste, and anyone who likes two relaxed sea days built in. Short-break seekers will find this schedule too long. Our database lists only 7-night sailings this season.
