What Carnival Venezia's Autumn Caribbean Season Is Actually Like
Here's the October-to-January picture, minus the brochure gloss. Venezia is Carnival's Venice-themed ship, and she does not do subtle. Her atrium is modelled on St. Mark's Square, and her dining room has an actual gondola parked in it, so the Italian cosplay is fully committed (no one asked for a Rialto Bridge at dinner, and yet here we are). From autumn into winter she sails round trip from Port Canaveral, mixing 7-night runs with a few long southbound sailings. The Oct 18 ports come from Carnival's own itinerary page, and the rest come from iCruise's sailing listings, so treat those as a guide rather than gospel. Itineraries can change, so check Carnival's site before you book.
The weather: it's a season of two halves
Hurricane season officially runs to November 30. Holland America's Caribbean weather guide says it typically peaks in August and September, but October still carries some risk early in the month, so yes, the sea can still throw a tantrum. Expect mid-to-upper 80s air temperatures in October. Storms can mean a swapped port or an extra sea day, so keep an eye on Carnival's updates before you sail. The same guide says November is pleasant, with sporadic showers and temperatures in the 70s and 80s. It puts the Caribbean's dry season at typically December through May, and January is peak dry season, which is the Caribbean finally behaving itself.
Who should book which sailing
| Sailing | Ports (Carnival for Oct 18, iCruise for the rest) | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| 8 nights, Oct 10 | Bonaire, Oranjestad, Celebration Key | Snorkellers who want a taste of the Southern Caribbean without a two-week commitment |
| 14 nights, Oct 18 | St. Thomas, Antigua, Martinique, Grenada, St. Vincent, Barbados, St. Maarten, San Juan (5 sea days) | Island-collectors with two weeks to burn |
| 7 nights Eastern, from Nov 1 | Celebration Key, San Juan, St. Thomas | First-timers who want beaches, history and shopping |
| 7 nights Western, from Nov 8 | Mahogany Bay (Roatán), Belize City, Cozumel on Nov 8. Later sailings: Celebration Key, Cozumel, Mahogany Bay | Snorkel-and-beach types |
| 14 nights, Nov 29 and Jan 10 | Nov 29: St. Thomas, Antigua, Dominica, Barbados, Grenada, St. Maarten, St. Kitts, San Juan. Jan 10: Grand Turk, Aruba, Curaçao, Grenada, Barbados, Dominica, St. Maarten, St. Thomas | Retirees, remote workers and people who've done the greatest hits |
What the ports are really worth
- Celebration Key: Carnival's purpose-built Grand Bahama stop has a 2,200-foot pier, so no tendering and no queuing for a little boat like it's 1987. It also has lagoons, a mile of beach and free loungers and lunch. Drinks cost extra, and the Cheers package doesn't carry over to the island. See our bring-alcohol policy rundown before you plan your day around a cocktail.
- San Juan and St. Thomas: The Eastern 7-night is two proper towns with a beach stop. San Juan is a walkable fort-and-colour day, and St. Thomas is a beach-or-shopping day (or both, if your wallet is feeling reckless). Carnival's 14-night listing shows San Juan port hours of 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., with other ports 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Cozumel and Mahogany Bay: These are the reliable Western Caribbean pair, with snorkelling in Cozumel and easy beach time in Roatán. Zero drama, maximum flip-flops.
- The 14-nighters: The Oct 18 sailing hits six different islands on six days in a row, which is the cruise equivalent of speed dating. The catch is five sea days, including two right after you leave Florida and two before you return. Count on at least two days of "are we there yet" energy.
Calendar quirks
The Nov 22 sailing runs across Thanksgiving, which is Nov 26, so expect a family-heavy ship and a turkey dinner with a side of towel animals. The Dec 20, Dec 27 and Jan 3 sailings are holiday weeks, which usually means more kids, higher fares and busier pools. Fares move by sailing, so compare dates on Carnival's site rather than assuming autumn is automatically cheaper. If you're booking an October sailing, remember that early-month hurricane risk is real, so travel insurance is worth a look.
What to pack
- A light rain jacket or poncho. It's essential for October and November, and worth packing even in January, because the Caribbean loves a plot twist.
- Quick-dry clothes and water shoes for beach days.
- Reef-safe sunscreen. Even in cloudy weather the sun is strong.
- A light layer for the ship's air conditioning, which runs at "meat locker" more often than you'd like.
- Motion-sickness remedies if you're sailing in early October, when storm risk hasn't fully gone away.
On the health front, Venezia's most recent CDC inspection, on June 18, 2026, scored 95 out of 100. CDC counts 86 or above as satisfactory, so she's comfortably in gold-star territory. For the full history, see the Carnival Venezia ship page or the CDC inspection lookup.
