Norwegian Joy leaves Miami on Friday 5 February 2027 for three nights in the Bahamas and is due back Monday 8 February. It’s a weekend escape with a boarding pass: a Breakaway Plus ship freshened up in 2024 with a new Thermal Suite and an expanded Vibe Beach Club. Fair warning: our own database has no ports for this sailing, so everything below about Nassau and Great Stirrup Cay is “per reseller listings”, not “per NCL”. Think strong gossip, not gospel.
Start Here
- Now: Check your ID. A US citizen needs a passport, or proof of citizenship plus a government photo ID, and NCL says photocopies and pictures are not accepted.
- Nov 7, 2026: Specialty dining reportedly opens 90 days out (a secondary source, so confirm in My NCL). Platinum members and above could already book from 3 Oct.
- Jan 15, 2027: Online check-in opens (21 days out, per NCL’s India and UK pages) and you reserve your pier arrival time.
- Feb 3, 2027: Last day to pre-book the Great Tides Waterpark in MyNCL (two days out), if the private-island stop and the add-on suit you.
- Feb 4, 2027: Midnight deadline to prepay NCL’s Garage B parking, if you’re driving.

What to Do Now and the Deadlines That Bite
The first deadline is 7 November 2026, nine days from today, when specialty dining reservations reportedly open. That date comes from a secondary source citing a 90-day window, so confirm it in My NCL. On a three-night cruise there are only so many dinners to go around, and you can’t exactly shrug and try again Thursday.
| Date | What happens | Caveat |
|---|---|---|
| 28 Sep / 3 Oct 2026 | Dining windows for Ambassador (130 days) and Platinum, Sapphire, Diamond (125 days) | Already open |
| 7 Nov 2026 | Specialty dining opens for everyone (90 days) | Secondary source |
| 15 Jan 2027 | Online check-in opens (21 days) | NCL India/UK pages; confirm on the US site |
| 1 Feb 2027 | NCL’s Australian page strongly recommends being checked in by now (4 days out) | Treat as your personal deadline |
| 2 Feb 2027 | Online check-in reportedly closes (3 days out) | NCL India/UK pages |
| 3 Feb 2027 | Great Tides Waterpark pre-booking ends | Only relevant if you want it |
| 4 Feb 2027 | Prepaid Garage B parking closes at midnight | Optional |
NCL’s regional pages disagree on how late you can check in, so don’t flirt with the cutoff. A late check-in can mean a slower terminal process or even being denied boarding. Do it on 15 January, with a coffee, like a person who has their life together.
Latitudes Rewards perks matter here too. From the Canadian site, so check that the US page matches:
- Platinum (75 points) and above get priority check-in and embarkation.
- Platinum, Sapphire and Diamond can pre-book dining up to 125 days out, and Ambassador up to 130.
- Gold and above get priority tender tickets, which only helps if Great Stirrup Cay is a tender stop.
- No-show dining reservations carry a $10 per person fee unless you cancel or change at least 2 hours ahead (from an undated source).
Embarkation Logistics
Be checked in online, parked or dropped off, and aboard at least one hour before the departure time on your documents. If the reseller-listed 4:00 PM departure holds, that’s 3:00 PM at the latest. Your own documents win over any blog, including this one (yes, we’re betraying ourselves, but it’s true).
The terminal for this sailing isn’t established. NCL’s Miami base is Terminal B and Garage B is signed as Norwegian parking, but NCL ships also use other Miami terminals. Read your documents before you plug anything into your GPS, because nothing says “vacation” like circling the wrong garage.
- No online check-in: arrive at least 2 hours before the scheduled embarkation time on your documents.
- Online check-in done: arrive at least 1 hour before it.
- Everyone: checked in and aboard at least 1 hour before the departure time on your documents, or you don’t sail.
- Arrival slot: unofficial sites say you choose it during check-in and that terminals open around 11:00 AM to noon. Turning up before your slot gets you nothing but a view of a queue.
Parking is $35 a day at Garage B, and prepaying costs more, not less. Yes, you read that right: paying early earns you a fee, not a discount. Welcome to cruising. The $35 rate is effective 1 January 2025 and we found no 2027 rate.
| Option | Rate | 3 days |
|---|---|---|
| Garage B, pay on site | $35/day, first come, first served | $105 |
| Garage B, prepaid via ParkWhiz | $35/night + $3.50/night reservation fee + 3% card fee | $115.50 before card fee |
| Garages C, D, F, G, Lot E (overnight) | $28/day, per day or fraction (unverified for 2027) | $84 |
Pay with cash or a major credit card, because debit cards aren’t accepted. A Friday-to-Monday stay may be billed as four calendar days, which at $35 would be $140, so ask when you book. NCL’s parking line is 800-392-1899.
From Miami airport, a rideshare runs roughly $20 to $25 and a taxi $30 to $35, per car, not per person. Those are blog estimates, and another guide puts taxis at $27 to $33 for about 14 minutes and the trip at about 11 km (roughly 7 miles). Surge pricing is possible, so your rideshare app has the final word.
If you’re flying in the night before, there are several shuttle-friendly hotels, but call before you rely on any shuttle. We couldn’t confirm February 2027 rates or current fees.
- Holiday Inn Port of Miami-Downtown: described as across from the port, with a cruise shuttle.
- Hampton Inn & Suites Miami/Brickell-Downtown: sources conflict on whether the shuttle is free or $8 per person.
- Hotel Beaux Arts Miami and Embassy Suites Miami International Airport: both reportedly offer a free port shuttle.
- Downtown or Brickell to the port by rideshare: about $10 to $20.
The Ship and How to Work It
Joy is a big ship on a tight schedule, so book dinners first and aim for the 2024 additions. With port days running roughly 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM on sister sailings, your ship time is mostly Friday afternoon and evenings, which is not a lot of time to be dramatic about a buffet. Our Norwegian Joy ship page has the full profile, and the CDC inspection lookup shows the score of 100 (out of 100) from the inspection on 12 July 2026.
The 2024 refit was a three-week Rotterdam dry dock, with the ship leaving on 11 February 2024. The changes reported:
- A Thermal Suite in Mandara Spa, replacing the Galaxy Pavilion virtual reality complex. It’s reported as the largest in the class.
- Vibe Beach Club expanded into the former laser tag arena on Deck 20, with more seating and private cabanas. Don’t promise yourself laser tag; the arena it used to occupy is now beach club.
- 24 new balcony staterooms and 40 spa balcony staterooms with direct spa access.
- Two Haven Premier Owner’s Suites expanded to three bedrooms.
NCL’s ship page also lists Spice H2O as an adults-only beach club alongside Vibe and the Thermal Suite. We can’t confirm how Spice H2O sits next to the expanded Vibe, so check the deck plan. For thrills there’s the Ocean Loop, a double-loop waterslide that extends over the ship’s side (yes, over the side, brave souls only), and the Norwegian Joy Speedway, a two-level race track.
Dining venue counts vary by source, so ignore any tidy total. What we can name:
- Extra charge (third-party listings): Cagney’s Steakhouse, La Cucina, Teppanyaki, Q Texas Smokehouse, Food Republic and Starbucks.
- Complimentary (same source): Garden Café buffet, Manhattan Room, Savor, Taste and The Local.
- Unresolved: Le Bistro’s status. Check NCL’s dining page before you plan around it.
- Bars: NCL names Sugarcane (mojito bar), Cavern Club and the Horizon Lounge.
We couldn’t find current kids’ club names, age brackets or a show lineup. Check NCL’s youth programme page and your daily planner rather than trusting a half-remembered review.
The Ports
The likely plan is Miami, Nassau, Great Stirrup Cay, Miami, but NCL hasn’t confirmed it for this date. The most detailed reseller listing puts Nassau on Saturday 6 February and the private island on Sunday 7 February. One other listing reportedly flips the order, so confirm on NCL’s booking page before you start planning your Saturday outfit.
| Day | Port | Times (from sister sailings) |
|---|---|---|
| Fri 5 Feb | Miami | Departs 4:00 PM |
| Sat 6 Feb | Nassau (likely) | 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM |
| Sun 7 Feb | Great Stirrup Cay (likely) | 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM |
| Mon 8 Feb | Miami | Arrives 7:00 AM |
Those port hours come from other Joy sailings, not 5 February itself. All-aboard is earlier than the listed departure and is printed in your daily planner. Arrival is Monday morning, so leave buffer when booking flights.
Nassau
You dock at Prince George Wharf, and you’ll have company. The port expects about 6.7 million passengers in 2026, against 6.1 million in 2025. Bay Street is outside the port gates.
- Money: US dollars are accepted 1:1 with the Bahamian dollar.
- Taxis: they wait at the stand in the Arrivals Plaza. Rates are set by law, with surcharges for more than two passengers, so agree the fare before you get in. Many reportedly don’t take cards.
- Paradise Island: the walk is about 2 miles, or 45 to 60 minutes. The 2025 ferry fare was $6 per person each way, but sources conflict on its hours, so verify on the day.
- Atlantis (2025 estimates, highest December to April): Beach Day Pass $75 to $90 per person, Aquaventure Day Pass $130 to $200+. Marina Village, the casino (18+) and hotel lobbies are free to enter. Day-pass availability for cruise passengers isn’t confirmed, so ask Atlantis directly.
The US State Department advisory for The Bahamas is Level 2, “Exercise increased caution”, issued 28 July 2026, with no change in level. Violent crime is concentrated in Nassau and Freeport, and travelers are told to stay alert in the “Over the Hill” area south of Shirley Street. Travelers have been detained for carrying guns or ammunition, and a 2024 version of the advisory also warned about unregulated jet-ski and watercraft operators. Re-read the current text before you go.
We have no reliable Nassau tipping norm, so we won’t invent one.
Great Stirrup Cay
Entry to NCL’s private island is free, and the extras are where the money goes. The Great Tides Waterpark opened 4 September 2026. NCL says its price varies by sailing and appears only in your MyNCL account, which is a very NCL way of saying “ask us later”.
- Price: NCL has published none. Unofficial guesses run from $75 to $150, so treat them as noise.
- Zones: Tidal Tower, Cliffside Cove, Wandering River and Splash Cay.
- Height minimums: 42 inches (Tidal Tower), 48 inches (Cliffside Cove), 36 to 40 inches (Splash Cay).
- Age rules: children 0 to 3 are free, and guests 17 and under need an accompanying ticketed adult aged 18+.
- Included: towels, lockers, loungers, life jackets and the tram, plus some food. Drinks are covered only with the Free at Sea beverage package.
- Booking: MyNCL up to two days before sailing, or the Shore Excursion Desk if any are left. NCL strongly recommends pre-booking.
Other additions include the Great Life Lagoon and the adults-only Vibe Shore Club. Which are open in February isn’t specified. Free at Sea and More at Sea beverage packages keep their inclusions ashore.
NCL is building a $150M two-ship pier to replace tendering. Tendering resumed 1 April 2026 during construction, and sources conflict on whether the pier is open, so whether Joy docks or tenders on 7 February is unconfirmed.
Conditions and Packing for Early February
Expect mild, mostly dry weather, with the odd chilly spell behind a cold front. Hurricane season runs 1 June to 30 November, so this sailing falls about two months after it ends. NOAA notes storms “sometimes” occur outside those dates, but February is very quiet. The real winter risks are cold fronts and choppy seas.
| Miami, February normals | Figure |
|---|---|
| Average high / low (airport) | About 78°F / 63°F |
| Average high / low (Miami Beach) | About 75°F / 63°F |
| Rain (airport) | About 2.15 in over roughly 6.5 days |
| Sea temperature, Miami Beach | About 73°F |
| Record February high | 89°F |
We don’t have reliable February normals for Nassau or Great Stirrup Cay. Plan for conditions roughly like Miami’s, and check the forecast a few days out. We also have no sea-state data for the route. The ship is large (167,725 GT), and a mid-ship, lower-deck cabin plus remedies from home is the sensible plan.
- A light jacket or cardigan for evenings, the open deck and post-front chill.
- Swimwear. Miami Beach’s sea sits around 73°F, which is bracing rather than balmy, but the Ocean Loop slide, Vibe Beach Club and (if you book it and the private-island stop holds) the Great Tides Waterpark are all swimsuit territory.
- A compact rain jacket, because frontal showers are brief.
- Sun protection. The Bahamas sun doesn’t take winters off.
Money: What the Fare Doesn’t Cover
Fare quotes for this sailing disagree across listings, so check a live price and budget the extras separately. The service charge, drinks, Wi-Fi, specialty dining and excursions are all on top. For a tip-by-tip breakdown, see our cruise tipping guide.
| Item | Rate | 3 nights, per person |
|---|---|---|
| Service charge, standard stateroom or Club Balcony Suite | $20/day | $60 ($120 for two) |
| Service charge, The Haven and most suites | $25/day | $75 ($150 for two) |
| Drink-package gratuity, prepaid (2 to 5 night sailings) | $32/day, up from $28.50 on 1 May 2026 | $96 ($192 for two) |
| Voyage Wi-Fi Pass (third-party figure) | $29.99/day | $89.97 |
| Streaming Voyage Wi-Fi Pass (third-party figure) | $39.99/day | $119.97 |
| Specialty restaurant cover charge (per NCL’s Joy dining page) | $40 to $60 per person | Depends on how many you book; Free at Sea includes specialty dining |
| Wine corkage | $15 per 750 ml; $30 per 1.5 L | Per bottle |
The service charge applies with or without Free at Sea. We’ve assumed it bills for three days, so confirm that on your booking. Two drinkers in a standard cabin would pay $120 in service charges plus $192 in drink-package gratuity, which is $312 before the package price itself. We couldn’t establish a current package price.
Specialty prices vary by restaurant and by source. Teppanyaki, for example, has been quoted at $49 in one guide and at $59 plus a 20% service charge in a 2023 Cruise Critic review, so treat any single number as a ballpark until you see the Cruise Planner.
The $32 gratuity applies only to pre-paid, pre-cruise bookings, and adding the package onboard costs more. Free at Sea reportedly bundles an open bar, specialty meals, excursion credits and limited Wi-Fi, but offers vary by fare, date and promotion. Confirm what’s attached to your fare. Wi-Fi is dynamically priced, and sources conflict on whether it’s per device or per stateroom, so check the Cruise Planner.
Documents and the Rules
This is a closed-loop sailing, so US citizens don’t strictly need a passport, but bring one anyway. The passport-only rules cover one-way US sailings, Panama Canal sailings and calls at Colombian or Panamanian ports, none of which applies here, assuming the Bahamas-only routing holds. The passport advice is ours, not NCL’s: it simplifies a flight home if you have to leave the ship.
- US adults without a passport: proof of citizenship plus a government photo ID. Accepted proof includes a state-certified birth certificate, an original naturalization or citizenship certificate, a consular report of birth abroad, an enhanced driver’s license or a passport card.
- US citizens under 16: no government photo ID required, so proof of citizenship such as a birth certificate will do.
- Minors travelling without both parents: we couldn’t verify consent-letter or name-matching rules, so call NCL on 1-866-234-7350.
- Non-US citizens: a passport not expiring within six months of your return (so valid past 8 August 2027), plus any visa your nationality needs. Green Card holders need their ARC and a valid passport from their country of citizenship, or they’ll be denied boarding.
- Bahamas entry: we couldn’t confirm any entry forms or per-passenger fees for cruise passengers, and we won’t claim there are none. Check with NCL and the Bahamian government before you sail.
Pack your medication with margin and leave the leafy stuff at home. NCL says to bring enough for the whole voyage plus 10 extra days, in original containers in your hand luggage. Carry copies of prescriptions, and bring a valid prescription for any narcotics. Medical marijuana, CBD and THC products are banned, with no prescription exception.
- Also banned: real and replica firearms, fireworks, knives with blades over 4 inches (10.16 cm), large aerosols, pepper spray, laser pointers and walkie-talkies.
- Appliances: clothing irons, immersion heaters, coffee machines with hot plates and candles are out. Hair dryers, flat irons and shavers are allowed unless security deems them a hazard.
- Drinks: only wine and champagne, in sealed or corked bottles that get screened. Box wine, liquor, beer and non-alcoholic drinks are out, with exceptions for medical-device water and infant formula. That’s from NCL’s Canadian page, so confirm the US version, and see our guide to bringing alcohol on a cruise.
FAQ: Your Last Questions, Answered
When does online check-in open for Norwegian Joy on 5 February 2027?
NCL’s India and UK pages say online check-in opens 21 days before sailing, which is 15 January 2027 for this cruise. They say the chance to check in ends 3 days out, on 2 February. Those are NCL’s non-US sites, so confirm the dates in your own booking. You choose your pier arrival time at check-in, so do it early.
What time should I arrive at PortMiami for a 3-night Norwegian cruise?
Use the arrival time on your cruise documents. Without online check-in, NCL says to arrive at least 2 hours before the scheduled embarkation time. With it, arrive at least 1 hour before. Everyone must be aboard at least 1 hour before the departure time on their documents. If resellers’ 4:00 PM departure holds, that means 3:00 PM.
How much is parking at PortMiami for a 3-night cruise?
Norwegian’s Garage B is $35 a day, so $105 for three days paid on site. Prepaying through ParkWhiz adds $3.50 per night plus a 3% card fee, which is $115.50 before the card fee, booked by midnight the day before. Those are the latest rates we found, not confirmed for 2027, and your terminal could differ.
Do I need a passport for a 3-night Bahamas cruise from Miami?
Not strictly, since it’s a closed-loop sailing. US citizens can use proof of citizenship, such as a state-certified birth certificate, plus a government photo ID, and NCL doesn’t accept photocopies. A passport is still the safer choice. Non-US citizens need a passport not expiring within six months of the return date, and possibly a visa.
Can I bring wine on a Norwegian cruise?
Yes, but wine and champagne only. NCL’s Canadian page says bottles must be sealed or corked and are screened, with corkage of $15 per 750 ml bottle or $30 per 1.5 L magnum when you drink it onboard. Box wine, liquor, beer and soft drinks aren’t allowed. Confirm the fees on NCL’s US page before you pack.
How much is the service charge on a 3-night Norwegian cruise?
It’s $20 per person per day in standard staterooms and Club Balcony Suites, and $25 in The Haven and most suites, with or without Free at Sea. Over three nights that’s $60 or $75 per person, assuming it bills for three days. It’s separate from the drink-package gratuity, which is $32 per person per day on 2 to 5 night sailings if you prepay.
Which ports does Norwegian Joy visit on the 5 February 2027 sailing?
Our database lists none. Reseller listings show Nassau and Great Stirrup Cay, with Nassau on Saturday 6 February and the private island on Sunday 7 February in the most detailed one. One listing reportedly flips the order, and NCL hasn’t confirmed either. Check NCL’s booking page, and see our Norwegian Joy itineraries for updates.
The Bottom Line
This is a fast, fun, Bahamas-flavoured weekend where the paperwork matters more than the packing. Pin down your ID, aim for 7 November for dinner reservations, and set a calendar alert for 15 January check-in. Treat the ports, their order and the 4:00 PM departure as likely until NCL’s page says otherwise, and budget the extras on top of the fare.
Then pack a light jacket, a swimsuit and a sense of humour. You’ll need all three before Monday morning.
