Harmony of the Seas Jan 23, 2027: 5-Night Prep Guide

Harmony of the Seas leaves Port Canaveral on Saturday 23 January 2027 for five nights. She’s fresh from her 2026 “Amplified” refit, with roughly 90+ new staterooms, new restaurants and a casino that swallowed a comedy club whole. It’s a winter sailing, so expect a chilly dock, a CocoCay beach day with cooler water, and Bahamas cold fronts that have opinions about your itinerary. Here’s what to book, bring and watch, in the order it bites.

Start Here

  • Now: Check that every traveller’s ID matches the booking name exactly, because name mismatches cause trouble at the pier and nobody wants to be that family.
  • About 9 Dec 2026: Online check-in should open (45 days out, our count). Do it in the Royal Caribbean app and pick your half-hour arrival slot.
  • Now through December: Watch the Cruise Planner for specialty dining and CocoCay extras. The sailing is 99 days away, and venues reportedly open anywhere from 3 to 5 months out.
  • 20 Jan 2027: Treat this as the last safe day to finish check-in (three days before sailing).
  • 23 Jan 2027: Arrive in your slot, expect Terminal 1, and bring a credit card if you’re parking, because the port takes no cash.
Harmony of the Seas, 23 Jan 2027: the numbers that matter. Sailing dates: 5 nights; Check-in deadline: 20 Jan 2027; Parking at the port: $20 per day; Gratuities, standard stateroom: $18.50 per day; Wine you can bring: 1 bottle; CDC inspection score: 98 out of 100.
The short version, in one picture. Save it to Pinterest for later.

What to Do Now and the Deadlines That Bite

A handful of dates matter: check-in opening around 9 December, the three-day cut-off on 20 January, and the dining and CocoCay booking windows in between. Everything else is you racing the crowd to the last good dinner reservation.

  • Check-in window: Royal Caribbean’s FAQ says app check-in runs from 45 days out until the morning of sailing. Another FAQ page says to finish no later than three days prior. The two don’t agree, so aim for early December and never later than 20 Jan.
  • If you miss it: You must finish check-in at the pier at least 2 hours before the published sailing time. If the 4:00 PM departure holds, that’s 2:00 PM. Don’t plan around it, because that’s living dangerously.
  • Loyalty tiers: No earlier online check-in for any Crown & Anchor tier is confirmed. A fan blog says tiers get priority embarkation instead, which is unverified.
  • Dining: The booking window for specialty restaurants isn’t official. One July 2026 blog says venues open 3 to 5 months out with no pattern, while an older one says 90 to 60 days. Check the Cruise Planner now and again weekly, because popular venues fill fast and prebooking is usually cheaper than onboard.
  • CocoCay extras: The Beach Club, cabanas and waterpark can sell out. Pricing is variable, so check your own Cruise Planner for January numbers.
  • Gratuities: You can prepay at booking or by phone, which may protect you from a later increase.

Embarkation Logistics

Expect Terminal 1, a half-hour arrival slot you choose yourself, and 30 to 90 minutes from terminal door to deck. The terminal is expected rather than confirmed, so let your Royal App boarding pass have the final word.

  • Your slot: It’s shown on your mobile boarding pass. Arrive early and you can’t begin boarding. Arrive late and you may wait for a later group. The cruise line is not here for your enthusiasm.
  • Typical slots: Guides report roughly 10:30 AM to 2:30 PM, first come, first served. That range isn’t confirmed for this sailing.
  • The hard stop: Everyone must be checked in and aboard no later than 90 minutes before port operations close. Closing time varies by port, and none has been published for this sailing.
  • Back home: The one listing with times has the ship back at Port Canaveral at 6:00 AM on Thursday 28 January.

Parking

The port charges $20 per day plus tax, per vehicle, not per person. Arrival day and departure day each count, so 23 to 28 January is six days, or $120 plus tax. Payment is on arrival by major credit card only, and there are no reservations. Rates can change without notice.

Off-site lots exist, but the prices in older guides predate the October 2025 increase from $17 to $20, so don’t trust them. Get a current quote and ask whether shuttles cover your arrival hour.

Getting from Orlando Airport

Orlando International is about 45 minutes from the port, and shared shuttles are the cheapest option for one or two people. These are vendor and blog estimates, not official fares.

OptionPriceBasis
Go Port shared shuttle$29.99 one way, $59.98 round tripPer person
Cruise-line shuttleAbout $35.99 to $39Per person, one way
Tropicana Transport$20 to $27.50, depending on van occupancyPer person
RideshareRoughly $60 to $90Per vehicle
TaxiAbout $100 to $120Per vehicle
Private SUVFrom the mid-$150s, up to 5 peoplePer vehicle

Hotel options for the night of 22 January aren’t verified, so price them directly and ask about shuttle policies before booking.

The Ship and How to Work It

Harmony is a 2016 Oasis-class ship with a 2026 makeover, so ignore any guide older than May 2026. She returned to service on 21 May 2026 after her drydock in Cádiz, and she has sailed from Port Canaveral since August 2026. Our Harmony of the Seas page has the full profile.

Eating

Royal Caribbean lists 20+ venues, and El Loco Fresh is the new free one. Main dining room names and whether you get My Time Dining or fixed seating aren’t confirmed, so check the app.

Reported gone after the refit: Wonderland (now cabins), Vintages, Sabor, Mini Bites and the Bionic Bar. The original Vitality Café is also gone, with only a smaller juice and smoothie pop-up left in the On Air Club. As for Jamie’s Italian, Charity Bradley’s review and Cruise Critic both say it’s out, though a few older guides still list it. Check the app before you plan a Jamie’s night.

Drinking, gambling, laughing

  • Pesky Parrot: A tiki-style bar with human bartenders, on the Royal Promenade, Deck 6, where the Bionic Bar used to be. The robots have been shown the door.
  • Lime & Coconut: The new pool bar.
  • Crown Lounge: It moved from Deck 4 to Deck 15, into part of the former teen area.
  • Casino Royale: Billed as the fleet’s largest, with 37 table games and over 500 slots. The Attic comedy club was sacrificed for it, and comedy may move to the Royal Theater.

Pools, slides and the Solarium

The Solarium is adults-only but has no pool, so don’t promise yourself one. It has whirlpools, misters, new furnishings and an extra outdoor sun deck. Across the ship there are three pools and ten whirlpools.

The thrills include Ultimate Abyss, billed as the tallest waterslide at sea, plus the Perfect Storm slides, a zip line nine stories high over the Boardwalk and new laser tag. Splashaway Bay is still the kids’ water park. Harmony is not an Icon-class ship, so don’t expect a Category 6 waterpark or a Surfside neighbourhood. Manage your expectations and she’ll treat you well.

Kids and shows

  • Adventure Ocean: It has a new Escape V: Science Lab escape room at extra cost. Age bands aren’t confirmed for this ship, so check the app.
  • Teens: Social100 is the refreshed space for ages 13 to 17.
  • Shows: Royal Caribbean cites four shows and six live music venues. Voices is the main Royal Theater production, and Grease has ended. AquaTheater and ice show titles for your dates aren’t confirmed, so check the app.

The Ports

The most likely running order is sea day, CocoCay, Nassau, sea day, but Royal Caribbean can flip the order between sailings. Three third-party listings agree for 23 January, while Royal Caribbean’s generic page for this cruise shows Nassau first and carries no dates. Confirm in the app or Cruise Planner before you build plans around it.

These are ship arrival and sailing times from a single aggregator. The all-aboard time isn’t confirmed for this sailing, so treat the departure times as the moment the ship leaves, be back well before them, and check the Royal Caribbean app for your deadline. Our Harmony itineraries page tracks route changes.

Perfect Day at CocoCay

CocoCay is Royal Caribbean’s private island, so there’s no town and no independent option. Entry is free, along with South Beach, Oasis Lagoon, Chill Island, Skipper’s Grill, Chill Grill and the Snack Shack.

  • Costs extra: Thrill Waterpark, the zip line, the helium balloon, Coco Beach Club, Hideaway Beach (adults 18+), cabanas, beach rentals and shore excursions.
  • Price benchmark: A summer 2026 Thrill Waterpark day pass on a different ship listed at $104.00 per person. It’s a benchmark only, not your price.
  • Water temperature: Published January sea-temperature figures for the area don’t agree, so there’s no single number worth quoting. Expect cool rather than bathwater warm, and weigh the waterpark price against your forecast.

Nassau

Nassau is a walk-off port at Prince George Wharf, and downtown is a 10 to 15 minute stroll. The terminal has the Museum of Junkanoo, about 60 craft and souvenir vendors, a pharmacy and free Wi-Fi.

  • Walkable: Bay Street, Parliament Square, Junkanoo Beach and the Queen’s Staircase (66 limestone steps, cut in 1793) are all within about 10 to 15 minutes.
  • Junkanoo Beach: Free to enter, but loungers add up. One reviewer paid $40 plus tip for two.
  • Food and shopping: Try the Straw Market, where polite haggling is expected, and the Arawak Cay Fish Fry for conch and seafood.
  • Paradise Island: Walk the bridge (about 20 minutes), take a taxi, or take the roughly 10 minute water taxi. Fares are quoted at $3 to $7 each way depending on the source, so verify locally.
  • Atlantis: One unconfirmed report puts day passes from $195 per adult and $95 for ages 4 to 12 as of March 2026. That’s steep for a ten-hour port day.
  • Royal Beach Club Paradise Island: It’s a separate paid choice, not part of your fare. Launch coverage from a Christmas-week sample listed $169.99 for adults 21+ all-inclusive, $129.99 for ages 13+ non-alcoholic and $109.99 for ages 4 to 12, with ages 3 and under free. One unconfirmed report saw a $49 entry-only pass, and there’s no January 2027 price yet.

Taxis wait at the port, and some aren’t metered, so agree the fare before you get in. Uber and Lyft reportedly don’t operate in the Bahamas. Jitney buses cost roughly $1 to $1.50 a ride and need small change.

The US State Department lists The Bahamas at Level 2, Exercise Increased Caution, mainly for crime, with most violent incidents in Nassau and Freeport. Confirm the current advisory text on the State Department site before you sail. It also warns about jet skis, unlicensed operators and snorkelers overestimating their fitness, and firearms and ammunition are illegal even in small amounts.

Skip the “free” facials and “free” curbside taxis, jet skis, and rental cars (congestion and scarce parking). We don’t have ship excursion prices for Nassau, so check the Cruise Planner if you want a guaranteed return to the ship.

Conditions and Packing for Late January

Hurricanes aren’t the worry, because the Atlantic season ends 30 November, but cold fronts are. Fronts cross the Bahamas roughly every 5 to 10 days from December into spring, and winds can top 25 knots at peak. Mother Nature, it turns out, doesn’t read itineraries.

  • Real precedent: In January 2025, gale-force winds made several lines skip Bahamas calls, including Icon of the Seas and Voyager of the Seas. In November 2025 a rare cold front diverted Royal Caribbean ships away from the Bahamas.
  • CocoCay specifically: It has little protection from big swells, so that call is weather-dependent.
  • Port Canaveral: January highs are about 69 to 70°F and lows about 50 to 53°F, so boarding and sail-away can feel properly chilly.
  • The Bahamas: Daytime highs for Nassau and CocoCay are typically quoted in the 70s, though the sources are patchy, so check the forecast a week out. January is also drier than the May-to-October wet season, though showers are possible.
  • Seasickness: No route data exists, so this is our opinion. A 226,963 GT ship helps, but expect a rougher night or two if a front passes.

Pack layers and a light rain layer, plus swimwear, a cover-up and a towel for cooler water. Add sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses, because the sun is still strong. Bring closed-toe shoes and motion-sickness remedies as a precaution.

Money

The biggest value is CocoCay’s free beaches, and the easiest overspend is a drink package you don’t use. These figures are mostly third-party estimates, so confirm exact prices in the Cruise Planner.

ItemRate5-night total
Gratuities, standard stateroom$18.50 per person per day$92.50 per person, $185.00 for two
Gratuities, suite$21.00 per person per day$105.00 per person, $210.00 for two
Deluxe Beverage Package (estimate)About $55 to $120 per person per day, median about $84$275 to $600 per person before service charge
Surf + Stream internet (illustrative)About $28.99 per device per day$144.95 per device
Parking$20 per day plus tax$120 plus tax per vehicle (6 days)

The gratuity totals assume five charged nights, and the rate could change before January. One source gives the suite rate as $20.50, so confirm it on your booking. Children pay the same as adults, and gratuities post to your onboard account automatically. Our tipping guide covers extra tips.

  • Service charges: Guides cite 18% on drinks and a separate charge on spa services, with sources disagreeing on the spa rate. Verify both in the Cruise Planner.
  • Internet: Real-world prices range from $18 to $38 per device per day, so the table figure is only a midpoint.
  • Wine: Each drinking-age guest can bring one sealed 750 ml bottle on embarkation day. See our bring alcohol guide.
  • Corkage: The fee for drinking your bottle in public venues is unconfirmed (reports say $15 or $25).
  • Bahamas levies: These are per-person government charges, and one secondary report says they’re folded into your booking’s taxes and fees. Check your invoice rather than assuming.

Documents

A US citizen on this closed-loop sailing can use a birth certificate plus photo ID, but Royal Caribbean strongly recommends a passport. The cruise starts and ends at Port Canaveral and calls only in the Bahamas. The details below come from Royal Caribbean’s FAQ pages and secondary guides, so confirm with CBP and Royal Caribbean’s Travel Documents Hub before you pack.

  • Adults: An original or certified birth certificate from a state vital records office, plus a valid, non-expired government photo ID.
  • Enhanced licences: An Enhanced Driver’s License can stand in for the birth certificate, but only MI, MN, NY, VT and WA issue them. A plain REAL ID licence is not proof of citizenship.
  • Why the passport: If you miss the ship or must fly home from the Bahamas, a birth certificate won’t get you on a plane.
  • Passport validity: A “six months beyond the cruise” rule is anecdotal, not a confirmed requirement for this route.
  • Name match: Your booking name must match your travel document exactly.
  • At boarding: You need your ID and your SetSail Pass. COVID vaccination and testing are no longer required.

Children and non-citizens

  • US citizens 17 and under: Royal Caribbean accepts an original, notarized or certified birth certificate. Guests 15 and under need only that, with no photo ID. Hospital certificates and baptismal papers aren’t accepted.
  • Minors without a parent: The accompanying adult needs a notarized form signed by the child’s guardian. Different last names need a supporting document such as a marriage licence, divorce decree, name-change order or adoption paper.
  • Non-US citizens: Requirements aren’t confirmed here. Check Royal Caribbean’s Travel Documents Hub and Bahamas rules for your nationality.
  • Visa: US citizens reportedly need none for tourist stays up to 90 days in the Bahamas.

Medication and banned items

Bring medicines in original labelled packaging with a prescription copy. Secondary sources suggest a doctor’s letter and say controlled substances may need Ministry of Health approval. They disagree on quantity limits, so there’s no number here. Illegal drugs, including marijuana, are banned even with medical authorization.

  • Banned: Weapons, fireworks, mace and pepper spray, extension cords, power strips, clothing irons and steamers, and tools or screwdrivers over 7 inches.
  • Allowed: Curling and flat irons, and chargers with a recognized US or European certification. Hair dryers may be prohibited depending on specs.
  • Non-alcoholic drinks: Up to 12 cans, bottles or cartons (17 oz each) per stateroom, not per person.

FAQ: Your Harmony of the Seas Questions

Do I need a passport for a Port Canaveral to Bahamas cruise?

US citizens on this closed-loop sailing, which starts and ends at Port Canaveral and calls only in the Bahamas, can reportedly sail with an original or certified birth certificate plus a valid government photo ID. Royal Caribbean strongly recommends a passport anyway, because a birth certificate won’t get you on a plane home if you miss the ship. Names must match your booking. Non-citizens should check Royal Caribbean’s Travel Documents Hub.

When does online check-in open for the 23 January 2027 sailing?

About 9 December 2026. Royal Caribbean’s FAQ says app check-in starts 45 days before sailing, and counting back from 23 January gives 9 December. That’s our arithmetic, not a published date. Another FAQ page says to finish no later than three days before sailing, so treat 20 January as the safe deadline. You’ll choose a half-hour arrival slot during check-in.

Which terminal does Harmony of the Seas use at Port Canaveral?

Expect Terminal 1 (CT-1), where a port guide lists Harmony. The terminal isn’t confirmed for this sailing, so treat it as expected, not guaranteed. Your Royal App boarding pass is the final word. If you’re driving, parking is payable on arrival by credit card only.

How much is parking at Port Canaveral for a 5-night cruise?

The port charges $20 per day plus tax per vehicle, and both arrival and departure days count. For 23 to 28 January that’s six days, or $120 plus tax per vehicle, regardless of how many passengers ride along. Pay by major credit card on arrival, because cash isn’t accepted and the port takes no reservations. Rates can change without notice.

Can I bring wine on Harmony of the Seas?

Yes, one sealed 750 ml bottle of wine or champagne per drinking-age guest, on embarkation day only. Beer, seltzer, liquor and boxed wine aren’t allowed. Extra alcohol is stored and returned on the last day. The corkage fee for drinking your bottle in public venues is unconfirmed (reports say $15 or $25), so ask before opening it at dinner.

Could weather change the Bahamas ports on this cruise?

It could, and that’s the real winter risk. Cold fronts cross the Bahamas roughly every 5 to 10 days, and in January 2025 gale-force winds made several lines skip Bahamas calls, including Icon of the Seas and Voyager of the Seas. Hurricane season ends 30 November, so it’s wind and swell, not storms. Check the Royal Caribbean app before and during the trip.

Does Harmony of the Seas have an adults-only pool?

No. The Solarium is adults-only but has no pool, only whirlpools, misters, new furnishings and an extra outdoor sun deck. Royal Caribbean calls it an “enhanced Solarium”. The ship has three pools and ten whirlpools overall, and Splashaway Bay is the kids’ water park. Don’t expect an Icon-class waterpark.

The Bottom Line

This is a short, sociable Bahamas run on a freshly refitted ship, and the homework that matters is small. Sort your ID now, check in around 9 December, and watch the Cruise Planner for dining and CocoCay extras. Pack layers for a chilly Canaveral dock and cooler water, keep an eye on the weather, and confirm the port order in the app. Then go enjoy the sea day. You’ve earned it.
