What Carnival Spirit's Autumn Season from Mobile Is Actually Like

Carnival Spirit spends this stretch parked in Mobile, running short Bahamas loops, with one 14-night Southern Caribbean sailing in January to break the routine. She's a 2001-built, 85,920-ton ship with 2,124 guests at double occupancy, and she came out of a 2025 dry dock in Europe with a Heroes Tribute Bar and a revamped mini golf course (ship profile here). Our database doesn't list ports for these sailings, so we checked published schedules for 14 of them. Weather and sea conditions

Hurricane season officially runs through November 30, so the October and November departures still sit inside it. Storm risk drops sharply once December arrives. Early and mid-November can bring passing showers. December starts the drier winter pattern, and Caribbean highs generally run from the high 70s to the mid-80s°F.

The bigger plot twist is the Gulf itself. Winter cold fronts bring strong north winds and choppy seas, and temperatures can fall sharply within hours. Sea fog is also a known winter nuisance in the northern Gulf. So yes, you can sail toward paradise and still spend the first or last night wondering why your drink is moving on its own, even when the Bahamas are lovely. What the ports are worth

• Celebration Key: Carnival's private destination on Grand Bahama, open since July 2025, and the closest thing this itinerary has to a leading lady. It's on nearly every sailing. The Dec 20, Jan 11 and Jan 31 6-night calls run 11:00–18:00, while the 8-night calls run 08:00–16:00.
• Key West: An 8-hour call (08:00–16:00) on the 7- and 8-night sailings. Eight hours is plenty of time to wander, snack and make questionable decisions on a bar stool, and it's the main reason to pick the longer itineraries.
• Half Moon Cay: A beach day, pure and simple. It appears on the 7- and 8-night sailings and on two of the 6-night ones (Nov 8 and Jan 31).
• Nassau, Bimini: Nassau is on every 8-night sailing plus the Dec 20 and Jan 11 6-nights. Bimini is the rarity, appearing only on the Nov 22 and Dec 6 sailings, so if it's on your wish list, you have exactly two shots.

Which length suits whom

Six nights means two port days and three sea days, so it suits first-timers and people who mostly want the ship. Eight nights gives four port days and three sea days, and it's the better value if you want Key West and Nassau on one trip. The 14-night sailing is the grand production: seven ports and six sea days, including Aruba until 22:00 and a Bonaire stop. Four of those sea days bookend the trip (Jan 18–19 on the way out, Jan 29–30 on the way home), so expect a lot of open water before the first port at Grand Turk on Jan 20. Holiday crowding and pricing

The Nov 22 sailing spans Thanksgiving (Nov 26), which falls on a sea day. The Dec 20 sailing covers Christmas week, and the Dec 26 sailing is the New Year's one, with Nassau on Dec 31. Cruisetimetables, which samples Carnival's own site and warns its numbers may be out of date, listed these lowest interior starting fares. Treat them as snapshots rather than quotes, and compare like with like:

• 6 nights: $595 for Nov 8 versus $981 for Nov 22 (Thanksgiving week), and $601 for Dec 6 versus $896 for Dec 20 (Christmas week).
• 8 nights: $592 for Dec 12 versus $1,357 for Dec 26 (New Year's).
• Quiet January 6-nights: $497 for Jan 11 and $493 for Jan 31.

Same ship, same length, wildly different price tags. Holiday weeks are not shy about it.

What to pack

Mobile can be properly cold in December and January, so bring a jacket for embarkation and debarkation days. For the islands, pack swimwear, sunscreen, water shoes and a light rain layer.
