Carnival Legend leaves Tampa on Sunday, January 10, 2027, for six nights: a sea day, three ports, another sea day, then home on Saturday, January 16. It’s the only Legend sailing in our data for the period, so she’s having her solo moment, fresh off a 2026 refresh. Plot twist: our database has no port list for this sailing, and the ports below come from booking aggregators rather than Carnival’s own itinerary page. So this guide separates “likely” from “locked,” like a group-chat plan nobody has confirmed yet.
Start Here
- Now: check every traveller’s ID. Closed-loop US citizens need a boarding pass, a photo ID if 16+, and a certified birth certificate or naturalization certificate. A passport is the safer bet.
- Dec 27, 2026: Online Check-in opens (14 days out). Platinum and Diamond members may get roughly two days’ head start.
- Midnight Eastern, Jan 9, 2027: finish Online Check-in and pick an Arrival Appointment. Skip it and Carnival assigns you one, emailed on departure morning.
- Before you buy extras: confirm the port list on Carnival’s itinerary page. Belize and Cozumel appear in every listing we found, but the third stop is the shaky one.
- Before Jan 10: decide on the Cheers drink package, prepay what’s worth prepaying, and set your terminal and parking plan.

What to Do Now and the Deadlines That Bite
Online Check-in is the deadline that matters most, and it closes at midnight Eastern the night before you sail. It opens Dec 27, 2026, which is 14 days before departure. Today is October 2, so you have about 100 days to get organised, and no excuse to be hunting for a birth certificate at 11:58 PM on January 9. Don’t be that person. We’ve all met her, and she is not having a relaxing evening.
- Finish Online Check-in and choose an Arrival Appointment. That slot is when you may enter the terminal, not your boarding time. Skip it and Carnival picks for you, which is a bit like letting someone else order your dinner.
- Pick early. One blog source says early slots go first, so log in on opening day if you want one.
- Loyalty check: Carnival Rewards replaced the VIFP Club on Sept 1, 2026. Reported tiers are Gold (10,000 status stars), Platinum (50,000) and Diamond (100,000), earning about 3 stars per $1 of eligible spend. Confirm your early-access window on Carnival’s rewards pages before you count on it.
- Faster to the Fun (priority security, check-in, boarding, early stateroom access, express luggage and more) is sold only on carnival.com before sailing and is capacity-controlled. It’s free for Platinum and Diamond, and the price varies by ship and length. It’s refundable if you cancel before 11:30 PM ET the night before departure, but you still need an Arrival Appointment.
Re-check the itinerary before you spend on anything port-specific. Carnival sometimes shifts times and swaps ports before sailing, and it does not send an apology card.
Embarkation Logistics: Tampa
Port Tampa Bay has three cruise terminals, and which one Legend uses on January 10 isn’t confirmed. One secondary source says Carnival is frequently routed through Terminal 3 but that this can change. Your boarding documents and the port’s cruise-schedule pages are the tiebreakers.
| Terminal | Address |
|---|---|
| Terminal 2 | 651 Channelside Dr |
| Terminal 3 | 815 Channelside Dr |
| Terminal 6 | 1333 McKay St |
The port uses a blue route for drop-off and valet, and a red route for parking. Pay attention to the colours, because nobody wants to be the car going the wrong way past a terminal. Its phone numbers are 813-905-7678 and 800-741-2297.
Parking
Official port parking sits at 810 Channelside Dr (across from Terminal 3) and 1331 McKay St (near Terminal 6). You can prepay online. Valet is a $20 upgrade fee on top of the base rate.
- The port tariff reportedly lists passenger-vehicle parking at $19 per day from Oct 1, 2026, up from $18 the year before.
- That would put a week at roughly $133 (7 × $19) before any convenience fee, which is a lot to pay for your car to sit there judging you. This is our estimate, not a published total, and it’s unconfirmed whether a 6-night cruise bills as 7 days. Check the price when you prepay.
- Cheaper off-site lots exist, with third-party rates quoted from $4.99 to $15 a day. Vet them yourself, since one cheap option is five miles away with no transport. Cheap is great until you’re hauling suitcases down the road.
Getting There
Tampa International is about 9 miles and 15 minutes from the Channel District. Rideshare estimates run from about $31 (Uber’s average) up to $38–$55 depending on time of day, for up to four passengers. Check live pricing before you budget a single number.
For a night-before stay, roundups list the Hampton Inn Tampa Downtown Channel District and Home2 Suites by Hilton Channel District as under a mile away, reportedly with free shuttle and breakfast. The Marriott Water Street is about 0.6 miles (a 12-minute walk), and the Tampa EDITION (500 Channelside Dr) about 0.5 miles. Rates vary heavily by date and January availability hasn’t been checked, so confirm shuttle details when you book.
The Ship and How to Work It
Legend is a 2002-built, 13-deck Spirit Class ship, and her 2026 refresh looks cosmetic rather than a reinvention. The spring dry dock at Grand Bahama Shipyard in Freeport added the “From Sea to Shining Sea” bow crest plus other technical and cosmetic work. No list of new venues has been confirmed, so don’t expect a brand-new neighbourhood. Think fresh lipstick, not a full makeover. Deck plans live in the HUB app. For more on the ship itself, see our Carnival Legend ship page.
Eating
- Main dining: Truffles Restaurant (decks 2 and 3). Reports say Your Time Dining is first-come, 5:15 PM to 9 PM, and you can alert the restaurant through the app. Check whether fixed early or late seating is still offered.
- Included casual: Lido Marketplace, Guy’s Burger Joint, BlueIguana Cantina and Carnival Deli.
- Extra charge: Fahrenheit 555 Steakhouse, Bonsai Sushi, The Chef’s Table and the Coffee Bar.
Specialty reservations are highly recommended, and Carnival’s steakhouse page suggests booking at least two weeks ahead. A Chef’s Table price and sell-out timing aren’t published, so don’t assume a table will magically appear on the day. For the bigger picture on what’s free and what costs extra, see our cruise ship food guide.
Drinking and Playing
- Bars: Medusa’s Lair Dance Club, Billie’s Piano Bar, RedFrog Pub, Alchemy Bar, Heroes Tribute Bar and RedFrog Rum Bar.
- Shows: Punchliner Comedy Club, Family Feud Live and Playlist Productions. Showtimes for this sailing aren’t published yet; the HUB app handles daily schedules once you’re aboard.
- Pools: Camelot Pool, Avalon Pool and the Green Thunder Waterslide.
- Adults only: the Serenity retreat is included in the fare. Hours, bar service and minimum age aren’t confirmed, so check before you plan your whole day around it.
- Kids: Camp Ocean has three supervised youth areas, included in the fare. Confirm age groups on Carnival’s kids page.
Newer-ship fans, calibrate expectations. Carnival’s Legend page doesn’t list a roller coaster, a multi-slide water park or Guy’s Pig & Anchor Bar-B-Que, so treat them as not on offer. Legend is a classic with one waterslide, not a floating theme park. The HUB app is free and handles check-in, boarding documents, daily schedules, deck plans, menus and your Sail & Sign balance.
The Ports
Treat this route as likely, not locked. Two aggregators agree on the schedule below, but Carnival’s generic page for the 6-day Tampa itinerary mentions Costa Maya rather than Roatán. The 7-night Legend sailings (Jan 24, Feb 28, Mar 28) include Costa Maya, and this 6-night one is reported to swap in Mahogany Bay. Listed times below are aggregator figures, so treat them as a guide and check the daily schedule in the HUB app for the final word.
| Day | Date | Port | Listed times |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Sun Jan 10 | Tampa | Depart 3:30 PM |
| 2 | Mon Jan 11 | At sea | – |
| 3 | Tue Jan 12 | Belize City | 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM |
| 4 | Wed Jan 13 | Mahogany Bay, Roatán | 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM |
| 5 | Thu Jan 14 | Cozumel | 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM |
| 6 | Fri Jan 15 | At sea | – |
| 7 | Sat Jan 16 | Tampa | Arrive about 8:00 AM |
That’s 2 sea days and 3 ports. The 8:00 AM Tampa arrival comes from one listing only. Re-check Carnival’s itinerary page closer to departure for any changes.
Belize City (Tue Jan 12)
Plan for a tender, and plan your day around the long excursions. Reports say the ship anchors offshore and a 10–20 minute tender runs to Fort Street Tourism Village, a gated complex of shops, bars and tour kiosks. Confirm the tender arrangement in the HUB app.
- Altun Ha Mayan ruins: about 30 miles away, 4–5 hours total.
- Barrier reef snorkelling: 6–7 hours total, including a 45–90 minute boat transfer.
- Cave tubing: 5–6 hours total.
- Belize Zoo: 4–5 hours total.
With a tender at each end, a ship excursion gets you the guarantee that the ship waits, which is a comforting thing to have when you’re watching the clock. The Belize dollar is pegged at 2 BZD to 1 USD. Most passengers stay inside the compound, and the area just outside the gates has reported safety concerns. Skip wandering alone, unlicensed taxis and flashing valuables.
Mahogany Bay, Roatán (Wed Jan 13)
This is Carnival’s own cruise centre, compact and walkable, with the beach about five minutes from the main shopping area. Reports mention free beach loungers and a chairlift to the beach. Prices, whether the chairlift is free, and whether the ship docks or tenders aren’t confirmed. Snorkelling and zip-lining excursions are available.
Cozumel (Thu Jan 14)
This is the shortest port call of the three at about 8 hours, so keep it simple. Eight hours is not the moment to attempt Mexico’s greatest hits. Carnival ships dock at Puerta Maya, about 3.5 miles south of downtown San Miguel. Downtown isn’t walkable from there, so you’ll need a taxi. Verify the day-of pier in the Carnival HUB app.
| Taxi route | Estimated fare (per vehicle, up to 4 people) |
|---|---|
| Pier to downtown | $10–$15 |
| Pier to west-coast beach clubs | $15–$20 |
| Pier to Chankanaab Park | $10–$15 |
| Island loop | $35–$50 per hour |
These are indicative estimates from an excursion-seller site, so confirm the fare before you ride. Mainland trips to Tulum or Chichén Itzá take the whole day and carry real missed-ship risk on this short call. Book them only as a ship excursion with a return guarantee, or better, stay on the island. USD is widely accepted, but change often comes back in pesos, so bring $1s and $5s.
On safety, secondary sources report Belize at Level 2 (with Southside Belize City at Level 3), Honduras at Level 3 overall (resort areas better policed), and Quintana Roo, home of Cozumel, at Level 2. Check the State Department pages for current levels before you book independent plans.
Conditions and Packing for Mid-January
Hurricanes aren’t the January risk; cold fronts are. Atlantic hurricane season ends Nov 30, about six weeks before you sail. The real wildcard is a winter front, which can bring rain, a few cool days and choppy Gulf water, because Florida likes to remind you it’s technically January. The sea days (Jan 11 and 15) are the most exposed, but no wave-height data is available for this route, so bring remedies rather than expecting a rough trip.
| January average | Tampa | Cozumel |
|---|---|---|
| High | 71°F | about 81°F |
| Low | 53°F | about 72–75°F |
| Rainfall | 2.7 in over about 7 days | about 2.7–2.9 in over roughly 6–8 days |
| Sunshine / sea | about 65% sunshine | sea about 79°F |
We have no figures for Belize City or Roatán, so Cozumel is only a rough proxy. For a taste of what a front can do, a sharp one arrived on Thursday, January 15, 2026, bringing rain and rough seas, with Friday’s highs near 60°F, about 12° below normal, according to a Suncoast news outlet. That’s one past event, not a 2027 forecast.
- Tampa days: a light jacket or layers.
- Port days: swimwear, sun protection and a light rain layer.
- Cozumel: small bills for taxis.
- Sea days: motion-sickness remedies, just in case.
Money
The big costs are gratuities, drinks and your one planned splurge (the steak; no judgement). All prices are reported unless noted. Recheck Cheers and gratuity figures on carnival.com before booking, since this sailing is in January 2027.
| Item | Rate | 6-night total |
|---|---|---|
| Gratuities, standard cabin | $17 per person per day (ages 2+) | $102 per person; $204 for two |
| Gratuities, suite | $19 per person per day | $114 per person; $228 for two |
| Cheers, pre-cruise | $69.95 + 20% = $83.94 per person per day | $503.64 per person; $1,007.28 for two |
| Cheers, onboard | $74.95 + 20% = $89.94 per person per day | $539.64 per person |
| Fahrenheit 555 (generic Carnival price) | $52 per adult + 20% = $62.40; child 11 and under $15 + 20% = $18 | Per meal |
Gratuities are charged to your Sail & Sign account unless prepaid, and you can adjust them at Guest Services. We’ve assumed 6 days for these totals; Carnival may bill differently, so check. Mexico also charges a cruise passenger fee for foreign visitors, $10 per person from Aug 1, 2026 (so $20 for a couple), and a January 2027 sailing falls under that rate. Cruise lines or their agents collect it, and whether it shows up in your taxes and fees or as a separate charge isn’t confirmed, so check your booking breakdown before you budget for it twice.
Is Cheers Worth It?
For moderate drinkers, probably not. The reported break-even is roughly 6 cocktails or 11 beers a day, and light drinkers with 2–3 drinks a day do better paying as they go. Buying before sailing saves $36 per person over six days against the onboard price ($539.64 minus $503.64). That’s only true if Carnival bills six days. Want the wider debate? See our guide on whether a cruise drink package is worth it.
- It caps at 15 alcoholic drinks per 24 hours.
- Every adult in the cabin must buy it, and the minimum age is 21 on US sailings.
- It doesn’t cover bottled wine, port purchases or room-service alcohol.
The Bottomless Bubbles soda package is reported at $11.99 a day plus 20%. For the bring-your-own option, see the packing rules below.
Other Costs
- Bonsai Sushi is à la carte, with reported prices of $5 appetizers, $2.50 per piece of sushi or sashimi and $9–$10 specialty rolls. Those are third-party figures.
- WiFi, photos and room-service fees: reliable current prices aren’t available, so check carnival.com before you budget.
- Cheapest win: one sealed bottle of wine per adult drunk in the cabin has $0 corkage. In a dining room or bar, it’s $15 a bottle.
Documents and Rules
This is a closed-loop cruise from Tampa, so US citizens don’t strictly need a passport, but Carnival and the press both recommend one. A birth certificate gets you aboard, but if you must fly home mid-cruise, it causes major delays. Anyone without proper documents is denied boarding with no refund. Yes, it’s the dull bit. It’s also the bit that decides whether you sail.
- US adults and anyone 16+: boarding pass, government photo ID, and a certified birth certificate or certificate of naturalization. Birth certificates must be originals or certified copies.
- US and Canadian citizens under 16: an original or certified birth certificate (hospital certificates aren’t accepted), with no photo ID needed.
- Minors without both parents: Carnival strongly recommends a signed letter from the absent parent(s). Confirm its notarization requirements on Carnival’s help page.
- Non-US citizens: a valid, unexpired passport, plus any needed visas. Visa Waiver travellers need a machine-readable biometric passport and an ESTA.
- Green card holders: reports on passport requirements conflict, so check with Carnival.
Honduras reportedly allows day-visit entry for cruise passengers without a visa, though this isn’t confirmed by an official source.
What You Can’t Pack
- Alcohol: one sealed 750 ml bottle of wine or champagne per person (21+), in carry-on, on embarkation day only. Fortified wines over 15% ABV aren’t allowed, and all other alcohol is confiscated.
- Soft drinks: up to 12 sealed 12 oz cans or cartons per guest on embarkation day. Bottled water and bottled drinks are banned.
- Banned outright: cannabis and CBD products, irons, steamers, coffee makers, hot plates, heating pads, Bluetooth speakers, routers, hoverboards, and knives, scissors and open razors.
- Allowed but cabin-only: drones, fishing rods and golf clubs, usable only in approved ports.
- Wagons: must be folded and carried, and used only in ports.
Carnival’s wording on prescription-medication quantities isn’t clear, so check its help page before you pack.
FAQ: Carnival Legend From Tampa, January 2027
Do I need a passport for the Carnival Legend cruise from Tampa?
Not if you’re a US citizen on this closed-loop sailing. You need a boarding pass, a photo ID if you’re 16 or older, and a certified birth certificate or naturalization certificate. Carnival still recommends a passport, mainly in case you must fly home mid-cruise. Non-US citizens need a valid passport and any required visas.
What ports does the Carnival Legend visit on January 10, 2027?
Aggregators list Belize City on Jan 12, Mahogany Bay (Roatán) on Jan 13 and Cozumel on Jan 14, with sea days on Jan 11 and 15. Our database has no port list for this sailing, and Carnival’s generic page for this itinerary type mentions Costa Maya instead of Roatán. Verify on Carnival’s itinerary page before booking excursions.
When does Carnival online check-in open and close?
Online Check-in opens 14 days before sailing, so December 27, 2026 for this cruise. It closes at midnight Eastern the night before you sail, January 9. You must also select an Arrival Appointment by then, or Carnival assigns you one and emails it on departure morning.
How much are Carnival gratuities for a 6-night cruise?
Gratuities are $17 per person per day in standard cabins and $19 in suites, for guests aged 2 and over. Over six nights that’s $102 or $114 per person, so $204 or $228 for two. They’re charged to your Sail & Sign account unless prepaid, and Carnival could change the rate before January.
Is the Carnival Cheers drink package worth it?
Usually only for heavy drinkers. It’s reported at $69.95 a day pre-cruise, or $83.94 with the 20% service charge. That’s $503.64 per person over six days. The reported break-even is about six cocktails or eleven beers daily, so a few drinks a day is cheaper à la carte. Every adult in the cabin must buy it.
Can I bring wine on a Carnival cruise?
Yes, one sealed 750 ml bottle of wine or champagne per person aged 21 or older, in carry-on, on embarkation day only. Corkage is reportedly $15 a bottle in dining rooms and bars, and free in your cabin. Beer, spirits and fortified wines over 15% ABV are prohibited and will be confiscated.
What should I pack for a January cruise from Tampa?
Layers for Tampa, where January averages a 71°F high and 53°F low, and strong fronts can drop highs near 60°F. For the ports, expect highs around 81°F in Cozumel, so pack swimwear, sun protection and a light rain layer. Add motion-sickness remedies for the Gulf sea days, and $1s and $5s for Cozumel taxis.
The Bottom Line
This is a tidy, six-night Western Caribbean round trip with one real unknown: the port list. Do the boring stuff first: sort your ID, mark December 27 for check-in, and re-verify the itinerary before you spend on excursions. Budget about $102 per person for gratuities, decide on drinks before you pay extra for them, and take that cabin wine for free. Get the paperwork right and Legend’s refreshed decks are yours, minus any roller coaster. Pack the sunscreen, hold the plans loosely, and let Carnival do the dramatic part.
