What Silver Nova's Autumn Mediterranean Season Is Actually Like

Silver Nova's autumn is a slow, dramatic goodbye to the Aegean, like a summer fling that won't quite stop texting. Late October still has summer's leftovers: sea temperatures around 22–24°C according to one Greece guide, and daytime highs of roughly 20–24°C (68–75°F) on the islands. By mid-November the ship has moved west to Italy, Spain and Portugal, then leaves the Mediterranean for the Caribbean in December. Silver Nova is a 2023-built, 54,700-ton ship with 728 guests and 556 crew. Her small size is useful in a season when a big ship's tender queues would be miserable.

Weather and sea: the honest version

The northerly meltemi winds usually blow from late May to around the end of October, so the 19 and 26 October departures can still get a gust. Wind and swell matter more than rain here because they decide whether tenders run. Cruise guides flag tender disruption at the Greek islands as more likely later in October. November is when the Aegean's cold, wet winter spell begins, and Greece's own climate notes describe it that way.

Santorini and Mykonos are quieter this late. Some Oia shops and Mykonos beach clubs close, and ferries thin out. The towns are still walkable, but expect a few shuttered doors. Clocks in Europe also go back on 25 October, so sunsets arrive earlier.

Venice is its own drama. A travel guide says October to December is when significant acqua alta flooding is most frequent. That guide says the MOSE flood barriers now hold back extreme tides. They are raised only when a high tide is forecast, and the city's tide centre (the Centro Previsioni e Segnalazioni Maree) publishes the forecasts and announces activations. If you're sailing from Venice, check it in the days before you sail. Pack waterproof shoes anyway.

DepartureLength / fromWhat we know
19 Oct7 nights, PiraeusSails tomorrow, with departure from Piraeus listed at 19:00. Our port data is missing, but Cruisecheap and Cruise Timetables both list Gythion, Katakolon, Souda Bay (Chania), Santorini, Bodrum and a sea day. Confirm with Silversea.
26 Oct11 nights, PiraeusHeraklion, Rhodes, Kusadasi (Ephesus), Mykonos, Nafplio (Mycenae) and Gythion. One outside listing also features Istanbul, which isn't in our data.
6 Nov7 nights, PiraeusOur port data is missing. Silversea's voyage page is titled Athens (Piraeus) to Fusina (Venice).
13 Nov10 nights, VeniceOur port data is missing. A third-party listing features Sicily and Kotor.
23 Nov7 and 16 nights, Civitavecchia (Rome)Our port data is missing.
30 Nov9 nights, BarcelonaOur port data is missing. One listing shows Casablanca.
9 Dec12 nights, LisbonOur port data is missing. One listing calls it a transatlantic crossing to Bridgetown.
  • First-timers and Greece sampler seekers: On paper, the 7-night Piraeus loop is the easy choice, but the 19 October departure sails tomorrow at 19:00, so it's strictly for the already-packed and the gloriously spontaneous. Cruisecheap lists a long Santorini day on 23 October, 08:00 to 21:30, which gives you slack if tendering is delayed. Itineraries and port times can change, so confirm them with Silversea before you count on it.
  • History lovers: The 11-night Piraeus sailing is the one to pick. It covers Ephesus, Mycenae and Rhodes, and the extra days give you slack if wind scrambles a stop.
  • Italy-focused travelers: The 10-night Venice sailing and the November Civitavecchia departures put you in cities that are better in cool weather than in August. Their full port lists are not confirmed in our data, so check Silversea.

Prices and packing

For the 19 October sailing, Cruisecheap listed a Seven Seas Suite Forward fare of $6,000 per person (double occupancy, taxes and fees included), noting that rates are subject to availability and change without notice. Cruise Timetables also shows prices for this sailing, but doesn't say what basis they're on, and its figures are sampled from the cruise line's site and may be out of date. Fares for the other sailings aren't confirmed here. For the real number, check Silversea directly, because a sailing that leaves tomorrow is not a place for guesswork.

Pack for layers:

  • A light rain jacket and a warm sweater for evenings and wind on deck
  • Grippy walking shoes for the slippery marble at Ephesus and Olympia
  • A swimsuit, for the early sailings only
  • Waterproof shoes for the Venice sailing

For the ship itself, her most recent CDC Vessel Sanitation Program score is 97, from the 5 May 2026 inspection. See the CDC inspection lookup for the full report, the Silver Nova ship page for specs, or browse all itineraries.
