What Silver Muse's Autumn Run Is Actually Like (Spoiler: It Leaves Europe Before It Reaches Asia)
Our data tags this season "Asia." That's only half true, so here's the honest version. Silver Muse's next few months are a long, dramatic commute: Malta to Lisbon, down the West African coast, around South Africa, across the Indian Ocean, and finally into Southeast Asia by December. The "autumn" label also stretches. By the time she reaches Asia proper, it's the northeast monsoon and the Northern Hemisphere's winter.
Our database has no port lists for any of these sailings. Everything below comes from Silversea's own listings and agent pages, which sometimes disagree. Confirm the final itinerary before you book.
The sailings, leg by leg
| Leg | Dates | What the listings show |
|---|---|---|
| Valletta to Lisbon, 7 nights | Departs Oct 14 | Trapani, Cagliari, Cartagena and Málaga, with sea days between. Departs tomorrow, so this is a very last-minute one. |
| Lisbon to Cape Town, 20 nights | Departs Oct 21 | Funchal (overnight), Dakar, Takoradi, Walvis Bay, Lüderitz. Silversea's schedule has 12 sea days. |
| Cape Town to Mumbai, 22 nights | Departs Nov 10 | 10 ports and 11 sea days: Cape Town, Port Elizabeth, East London, Durban, Réunion, Mauritius (overnight), Seychelles, Cochin (overnight), New Mangalore, then Mumbai on Dec 2. |
| Mumbai to Singapore | Our data: Dec 3, 16 nights | Agents list Dec 2–20 (18 nights). Ports include Cochin, Colombo, Hambantota, Trincomalee, Phuket, Penang, Port Klang, Malacca. Sources differ on a few stops. |
| Singapore loop, 28 nights | Dec 20 to Jan 17 | Ho Chi Minh City, Chan May, Ha Long Bay, Hong Kong, Keelung, Manila, Coron, Puerto Princesa, Sandakan, Kota Kinabalu. |
| Hong Kong to Singapore, 14 nights | Departs Jan 3 | Silversea's itinerary runs through Taiwan, the Philippines and Malaysia. It covers the back half of the loop above: Keelung, Manila, Coron, Puerto Princesa, Sandakan and Kota Kinabalu, with 7 sea days. |
Port lists for the 11-night Singapore departure on Dec 20, the 14-night Singapore sailing on Jan 17, and the 14-night Hong Kong sailing on Jan 31 aren't confirmed. For those three, check the voyage page on silversea.com or ask your travel agent before you book.
Weather and what to pack
- Singapore: The national weather agency says December is climatologically the wettest month of the year, and the wet phase of the monsoon typically runs December to January. Pack a compact umbrella and fast-drying clothes, and accept that you'll be damp at some point. It's a tropical drizzle, not a personality flaw.
- Ha Long Bay: December runs cool. Sources put it around 14–19°C on average, with low rainfall. Some guides mention misty mornings, so bring a proper layer for the tender or deck.
- Hong Kong: The Hong Kong Observatory's 1991–2020 monthly normals put January at 16.5°C and December at 18.2°C. Bring a light jacket, not a parka.
- Namibia: Walvis Bay and Lüderitz are desert coast ports. They're famously breezy and cool, so don't pack beach-only outfits for the Atlantic side.
Which length suits whom
The 7-night Valletta sailing suits anyone who wants a first Silversea taste without a month off work. The 14-night Hong Kong run suits Southeast Asia first-timers. It packs Taiwan, three Philippine stops and two Borneo ports into two weeks. The 28-night loop suits retirees and the very-flexible. You get Christmas Day in Chan May, a four-day Hong Kong stay from Dec 30 to Jan 2 that lands over New Year's, and three consecutive days in Ho Chi Minh City. The Lisbon to Cape Town crossing is for sea-day devotees. Twelve sea days is a lot, even with a cocktail.
The ship and the quirks
Silver Muse was built in 2017 and refreshed in 2025. She carries 612 guests, with 408 crew looking after them. That's roughly 1.5 guests per crew member, and she's a small 40,700-ton ship by modern standards. Her latest CDC inspection score on record is 98, from July 25, 2024. That's more than two years old, and the CDC's Vessel Sanitation Program only inspects ships with foreign itineraries that call at US ports. This itinerary has no US calls, so don't expect a fresh score to appear for these sailings. See the full Silver Muse ship profile or run your own check with the CDC inspection lookup.
The Christmas and New Year dates in Vietnam and Hong Kong are peak holiday periods, so expect busier shore excursions and tighter tour availability. Fares for the same sailing vary a lot between sellers, so compare what's actually included before you decide that a number is a bargain. For the full list of departures, see all cruise itineraries.
