What Carnival Magic's Autumn Caribbean / Bahamas Season Is Actually Like
Autumn on Carnival Magic is the quiet, slightly sweaty stretch between summer family season and the winter crowds. Good news: she's fresh out of a 35-day refit at Grand Bahama Shipyard (April 19, 2026 start). The work touched the casino, the Lido layout, the WaterWorks aqua park and a new nine-hole mini golf course. This is a 2011 ship in her 2026 glow-up era, so the pool deck is the place to be.
Weather and sea conditions
The Atlantic hurricane season officially runs until November 30, so October and early November are still in play. Storm risk drops sharply as November goes on. The usual autumn pattern is warm water (roughly 82°F), highs in the 80s°F, and short afternoon showers instead of all-day washouts. A storm can still make Carnival swap or skip ports, so treat the port list as a plan and not a promise. Longer open-water stretches, like the Southern Caribbean's sea days, are where you're most likely to feel any swell.
Which sailing suits whom
| Sailing | Ports (per third-party listings) | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| 8-night Eastern (e.g. Oct 31) | Half Moon Cay, San Juan, Philipsburg, St Thomas; 3 sea days | Port collectors who still want a beach day |
| 8-night Southern (e.g. Nov 14) | Celebration Key, Aruba, Curaçao; 4 sea days | Ship lovers and snorkelers who don't mind a lot of sea time |
| 6-night (e.g. Nov 8, Nov 22) | Celebration Key, Amber Cove, Grand Turk; 2 sea days | First-timers and anyone short on vacation days |
A port-list warning: our database has no ports for the 8-night sailings. It also attaches the Half Moon Cay / San Juan / St Maarten / St Thomas list to the 6-night runs. That list belongs to the 8-night Eastern route: Carnival's own Magic itinerary page shows it, and taoticket lists the same ports for Oct 31. Retailer and timetable listings show the Nov 8 and Nov 22 six-night sailings as Celebration Key, Amber Cove and Grand Turk. The Southern 8-night lineup varies by listing and by sailing date: Nov 14 shows Celebration Key, Aruba and Curaçao. Confirm your exact sailing with Carnival before you book excursions.
What the ports are worth
- RelaxAway, Half Moon Cay: Formerly just Half Moon Cay, renamed in December 2024 as part of an upgrade. It's a beach day with no real shopping or sightseeing, so it suits "do nothing well" people.
- San Juan: The best walking port of the lot. Old San Juan has forts, colourful streets and plenty of coffee stops.
- Philipsburg and St Thomas: Both are shopping-and-beach ports. Pick one beach excursion and skip the rest, because the sun will make the decision for you.
- Aruba and Curaçao: Drier, windier and better for snorkeling and diving than the eastern islands.
Pricing and crowds
Autumn is shoulder season, and the booking-site snapshots show it. Taoticket lists the Oct 31 eight-night from $423 per person and the Nov 14 Southern sailing from $603 per person (double occupancy, taxes included). It marks the Oct 25 six-night as sold out, so don't plan around that one. Around Thanksgiving it gets funny: the same site lists the Nov 22 six-night from $825 per person and the Nov 28 eight-night from $516. Yes, the longer cruise was cheaper than the shorter one on those snapshots. Prices move daily, so check before you celebrate. Crowds and prices jump around the holidays. The Nov 22 six-night (Nov 22–28) covers Thanksgiving on Nov 26, while the Nov 8 and Nov 14 sailings are back in Miami by Nov 14 and Nov 22, ahead of the holiday. The Dec 26 eight-night (Dec 26–Jan 3) covers New Year's Eve.
What to pack
- Light, breathable clothes and two swimsuits, because nothing dries in this humidity.
- A packable rain jacket or poncho for the afternoon showers.
- Reef-safe sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses.
- A light layer for the over-air-conditioned dining room.
- Motion-sickness remedies for the longer sea-day stretches. Read our alcohol-on-board guide before you pack the bottles.
Magic carries up to 3,646 guests on 130,000 tons, and her latest CDC inspection (June 7, 2026) scored 96 out of 100. Check the detail on our CDC inspection lookup.
