What Carnival Horizon's Autumn Caribbean/Bahamas Season Is Actually Like
Right now Carnival Horizon is running two very different personalities out of Miami, and which one you book matters more than you'd think. There's the 8-night Southern Caribbean run — Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao, back to Miami — sailing eight times between September 26 and December 27, 2026. Then there's a 6-night sailing that runs six times over roughly the same window (October 4 through December 13), and we'll be upfront: our port data for that shorter itinerary is blank, so don't take anyone's word (including ours) for what it visits until you check the actual booking confirmation. Given Horizon's usual rotation, a Bahamas-leaning run is the safer bet, but "usual" isn't "confirmed."
The 8-nighter is the one worth planning your wardrobe around, because Aruba, Bonaire and Curaçao — the ABC islands — sit south of the standard hurricane belt, roughly on or below 12°N latitude. Aruba hasn't taken a direct hurricane hit since records began in 1851. That's a genuinely useful fact for anyone booking a late-September or October sailing while nervously refreshing the National Hurricane Center's tracker: your itinerary is about as storm-insulated as Caribbean cruising gets, even though the official Atlantic hurricane season doesn't close until November 30. Expect slightly higher rain odds in October and November than in the December sailings, but nothing like the soak-and-swelter you'd get further north or in the Eastern Caribbean.
What the ports are actually worth:
- Oranjestad, Aruba — the arrival stop, with a long all-aboard window (typically 9:30-10pm) that rewards staying late for Palm Beach or a sunset catamaran run.
- Kralendijk, Bonaire — dry, low-key, and genuinely uncrowded: a one-large-ship-per-day policy has been in place here since 2022, so you're not fighting five other mega-ships' worth of passengers for a dive spot. This is the stop for snorkelers and the flamingo salt flats, not for shopping.
- Willemstad, Curaçao — colorful, walkable, and the best of the three for wandering off the ship without a tour booked.
Length-wise: the 8-night Southern Caribbean suits people who actually want sea days — there are several built in — plus divers, snorkelers and anyone who resents rushing off a gangway at 7am. The 6-night (once you've confirmed what it actually visits) suits first-timers, families with shorter attention spans, or anyone squeezing a cruise around a work week. Pack for genuine tropical humidity in the high 80s°F with brief, heavy downpours rather than all-day rain — reef-safe sunscreen matters in Bonaire's marine park, and a light rain layer beats an umbrella on windy sea days. September and October are shoulder season with the softest fares of the year; November ramps up with Thanksgiving week crowding, and December sailings (especially the one departing December 27) will price like the holiday runs they are. Before you book, it's worth knowing Horizon isn't sailing in on reputation alone — she posted a 95 out of 100 on her most recent CDC sanitation inspection in February 2026, which you can look up yourself alongside any other ship on our CDC inspection lookup. And if Aruba or Curaçao's duty-free shelves catch your eye, check the actual carry-back rules first in our guide to bringing alcohol home from a cruise before you commit to that extra bottle.
