Norwegian Prima’s autumn is really a costume change. For a few weeks she’s a Florida-based weekender and week-long island hopper. By mid-November she’s packed up for Puerto Rico and, on at least one listing, doing six ports in six days. Same ship, very different holidays. Here’s whether this ship, this region and this season suit you.

The Ship: Who Prima Suits (and Who Should Look Elsewhere)
Prima is 142,500 gross tons with 20 decks, 3,219 passengers and 1,388 crew. That works out to roughly 2.3 guests per crew member. The pitch is “resort at sea”. Ocean Boulevard wraps the outer deck, there are infinity pools, and the Indulge Food Hall is Norwegian’s first. Prima Speedway is a go-kart track stacked over three levels. Yes, really. And yes, it costs extra: Norwegian’s activity prices FAQ lists a single kart session at $15 and the Ultimate Speedway Package, for unlimited track use on a 7-day sailing, at $199. Prices can vary, so check the app for your sailing.
Reader reviews are split. Fans praise the design, bright balcony cabins and a smooth ride. Critics say public spaces feel tight for the headcount. They mention a packed main pool, a small buffet, uneven service and specialty reservations that vanish fast.
It suits couples, friend groups and first-timers who want plenty to do. Look elsewhere if you want serenity, a small-ship feel or pricing without add-ons.
On cleanliness, Prima scored 99 out of 100 on its latest CDC Vessel Sanitation Program inspection. The satisfactory line is 85. Check any ship with our CDC inspection lookup, and find the full spec sheet on the Norwegian Prima ship page.
The Itineraries: Which Sailing to Pick
Our database lists 18 autumn sailings, and the full schedule lives on the Norwegian Prima itineraries page. Our data has port lists for only one of the four patterns below. The rest come from booking-site listings, which sometimes disagree, so verify before paying.
- Nov 1, 7 nights from Port Canaveral. Our data lists Puerto Plata (Amber Cove), St. Thomas, Tortola and Great Stirrup Cay. It departs in two days, so it’s for the spontaneous and the already-packed.
- Nov 8, 4 nights from Port Canaveral. Not in our port data. Third-party listings show Great Stirrup Cay on Nov 9, Nassau on Nov 10, a sea day on Nov 11 and a 7:00 a.m. return on Nov 12.
- Nov 12, 3 nights from Port Canaveral. The murkiest one. Booking sites list a one-way run to San Juan via Puerto Plata. Cruise Industry News described a late-November three-night Bahamas cruise instead, and the two accounts don’t match. Arriving Nov 15 would line up with the San Juan season starting that day, but that’s a guess, not a confirmed routing.
- Nov 15 to Jan 24, 7 nights from San Juan, 11 sailings. Not in our port data. One listing for the Nov 29 departure shows Tortola, St. Kitts, Barbados, St. Lucia, St. Maarten and St. Thomas on six consecutive days, with no sea days. Another listing adds Antigua on a different date, so don’t assume yours matches.
Which to pick: For a first cruise or a long weekend, take the Nov 8 Bahamas run. For classic island-hopping from Florida, the Nov 1 sailing is the one, if you can move that fast. For passport-stamp collectors, it’s San Juan. Just know that with no sea days you’ll barely use the ship you paid for.
The Ports: What’s Genuinely Worth Your Time
Great Stirrup Cay. Norwegian’s private island has a new pier. Since early September 2026 it also has the Great Tides Waterpark (19 slides and an 800-foot river), plus pickleball courts and a hammock area with more than 50 hammocks. Island entry is free, but Norwegian says the waterpark is an upgraded experience at an additional cost, with prices varying by sailing and shown in MyNCL once you’re booked. Norwegian doesn’t publish whether the hammocks and pickleball courts carry a fee, so check MyNCL or ncl.com before building a day around them.
Amber Cove (Puerto Plata). The port itself offers ziplining, kayaking and paddleboarding. For the real Dominican Republic, Puerto Plata is about 7.5 miles away, roughly a 15-minute drive. It has a three-mile Malecón boardwalk and San Felipe Fortress. Damajagua Falls canyoneering is the big-adventure option.
Tortola. None of the beaches are walkable from the pier. Cane Garden Bay is 15 to 20 minutes by taxi. The Baths on Virgin Gorda is the signature trip, but plan on 6 to 7 hours including a boat crossing of about 30 minutes.
St. Thomas. Magens Bay is the beach to beat. Ships dock at Havensight or Crown Bay. The Skyride to Paradise Point and a catamaran to St. John are the usual add-ons. If you’re not shopping duty-free, downtown is skippable.
Nassau. The Nov 8 listing gives a 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. day, the day after Great Stirrup Cay. Pick one plan rather than three.
San Juan route. On the Nov 29 listing, Barbados runs 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., so you can sleep in. St. Kitts is the shortest day, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Conditions and Packing for Late Autumn
Atlantic hurricane season officially runs June 1 to November 30. Activity drops sharply in late October and November, but NOAA’s National Centers for Environmental Information puts the average November at about one named storm across the Atlantic basin. Low risk is not zero risk, so read your insurance’s weather clause. Days are shorter than in summer.
Pack two swimsuits (nothing dries on a ship), reef-friendly sunscreen, grippy sandals for hilly taxi rides, a light layer for Florida evenings and chilly dining rooms, and a dry bag. US dollars are used in the US and British Virgin Islands. Bring a passport rather than testing your luck with minimum paperwork, and check requirements for your citizenship.
Money: Where the Value Actually Is
One listing for the Nov 29 San Juan sailing shows interior cabins from $749 per person, crossed out from $1,498 per person, before taxes and port fees. The $749 is the price. The other $749 is the claimed saving. That is about $107 per person per night over seven nights. The 4-night Bahamas sailing ranged from about $475 to $729 per person across sources, which is roughly $119 to $182 per night. Don’t read those two sets of numbers as a head-to-head. The San Juan figure is a sale interior fare before taxes and port fees, while the 4-night range comes from several listings, and we can’t tell you the cabin type or whether taxes and fees are included in each. Compare the same cabin category, with taxes and fees included, on Norwegian’s site. And all of this is before add-ons.
Based on May 2026 reporting, the daily service charge is $20 per person in standard staterooms and $25 in The Haven and most suites. The Free at Sea drink-package gratuity rose on May 1, 2026 to $32 per person per day on 2 to 5 night sailings. It stays at $28.50 on 6+ nights. If you take the package, that means:
- 4 nights: $80 service charge plus $128 drink gratuity, or $208 per person.
- 7 nights: $140 plus $199.50, or $339.50 per person. Two people pay $679 ($280 plus $399).

Timing: When to Book and What Sells Out
Today is October 30. The Nov 1 sailing leaves in two days, Nov 8 in nine and Nov 15 in sixteen. Late fares can be good, but cabin choice gets thin.
Holiday weeks are the pinch points. The Nov 22 sailing spans Thanksgiving (Nov 26). Dec 20 spans Christmas, and Dec 27 spans New Year’s. Sailings like these typically cost the most and fill first. That’s a general pattern, not our data. Thanksgiving also puts Black Friday (Nov 27) and Cyber Monday (Nov 30) in your window. Cruise lines like a flash sale, but check Norwegian’s 2026 terms before assuming one applies to your sailing. Book specialty dining before boarding, since reviewers say reservations are tough.
FAQ: Your Norwegian Prima Questions Answered
Is Norwegian Prima good for first-time cruisers?
Generally yes, if you like choice. Prima has a food hall, a three-level go-kart track and big pool decks, so boredom is unlikely. The trade-off, per reader reviews, is crowding at the main pool and buffet and hard-to-get specialty reservations. A 4-night Bahamas sailing is a low-commitment way to find out.
Is November a bad time for a Caribbean cruise because of hurricanes?
Not a bad time, but not risk-free. Hurricane season officially ends November 30, and activity falls sharply in late October and November. NOAA’s National Centers for Environmental Information puts the average November at about one named storm across the Atlantic basin. Buy travel insurance and read the weather clause before you pay.
Does Norwegian Prima sail from San Juan?
Yes, for winter. Seven-night Southern Caribbean sailings leave San Juan on Sundays from November 15, 2026 through January 24, 2027, 11 departures in all. Ports differ by date. One Nov 29 listing shows Tortola, St. Kitts, Barbados, St. Lucia, St. Maarten and St. Thomas, so confirm yours.
How much is the daily service charge on Norwegian Cruise Line?
Per May 2026 reporting, it’s $20 per person per day in standard staterooms and $25 in The Haven and most suites. It applies whether or not you buy a drink package. Four nights in a standard cabin is $80 per person, and seven nights is $140.
What CDC score does Norwegian Prima have?
99 out of 100 at its latest Vessel Sanitation Program inspection, on June 3, 2026. A score of 85 or higher counts as satisfactory, so this is comfortably above the line.
What should I pack for a Caribbean cruise in November?
Two swimsuits, reef-friendly sunscreen, grippy sandals, a light layer for Florida evenings and air-conditioned rooms, a dry bag and a passport. Days are shorter than in summer.
The Bottom Line
Prima suits you if you want a busy, modern ship and don’t mind sharing it. Pick the 4-night Bahamas run to test the ship, or the San Juan 7-nighters for the most new places in a single week. Check the 3-night Nov 12 sailing and every San Juan port list directly with Norwegian before you pay. Then pack the swimsuits and bring the passport.
