This is the Carnival Jubilee’s Sunday, 17 January 2027 sailing out of Galveston: six nights, two ports and three sea days, in the stretch of winter when Texas can be shivering while Cozumel is shorts weather. Carnival’s July 2026 cancellation of nine Jubilee sailings all falls in Aug–Dec 2027, so none of them touches this one. You’re 88 days out, which is plenty of time to make the decisions whose prices are about to stop sitting still. Consider this your calm, slightly bossy countdown.
Start Here
Do these in this order and you’ll dodge the expensive mistakes.
- Before Dec 1, 2026: decide on drink and Wi-Fi packages. Carnival moves both to dynamic pricing that day and hasn’t said whether earlier purchases keep today’s rates.
- Before your final payment date: check that date in your Cruise Manager booking. We don’t have it for your fare, so don’t guess.
- About Jan 3, 2027: online check-in should open roughly 14 days out. Pick your Port Arrival Appointment then, and confirm the exact date in your to-do list.
- Before you travel: prepay port parking (cards only) or book your airport transfer.
- Before you pack: sort your documents. A birth certificate plus photo ID is the minimum for US citizens aged 16 and over, but a passport is strongly advised for a Honduras stop.

The Sailing at a Glance
This is a 6-night western Caribbean loop with only two port days against three sea days, so decide now how you’ll spend the floating hours.

*Times come from a third-party listing (iCruise), not Carnival’s own page, and haven’t been confirmed for this date. All-aboard times aren’t shown in the listings we found, so check the Hub app and your final cruise documents. Our database also lists “Riviera Maya” beside Cozumel. It’s most likely a regional label, since no listing shows a separate stop. See the full Jubilee itineraries page for context.
What to Do Now and the Deadlines That Bite
Three dates matter: Dec 1, about Jan 3, and your final payment date.
| When | What happens | Confidence |
|---|---|---|
| Now to Nov 30 | Last window at today’s flat package prices | Dec 1 change reported; price lock-in not confirmed |
| Dec 1, 2026 | Drink and Wi-Fi packages move to dynamic pricing by sailing length, itinerary and season | Reported; no new prices released |
| Your final payment date | Shown in Cruise Manager | Check your booking |
| About Jan 3, 2027 | Online check-in opens (14 days out) | Third-party figure; confirm |
| Night of Jan 16 | Blogs say check-in and arrival appointments close at midnight Eastern | Unverified |
Dynamic pricing means a winter, 6-night Galveston sailing could price quite differently from the flat rates below. That’s my inference, not Carnival’s statement, so treat every package price in this guide as “October 2026, likely to move.” The gratuity prepay deadline to dodge the April 2026 increase was April 1, 2026, so that ship has sailed (a different ship, but the joke stays).
Embarkation Logistics: Galveston Day
Plan for Cruise Terminal 25, a prepaid parking spot or booked transfer, and an arrival window you actually respect.
The Port of Galveston said Jubilee would dock at Terminal 25 from Dec. 20, 2023. We haven’t seen that reconfirmed for January 2027, so the terminal and address on your cruise documents win.
Arrival windows
- You pick a Port Arrival Appointment during online check-in. Slots are reportedly first-come, first-served, so earlier check-in tends to mean an earlier slot.
- Turning up early to beat the crowd has been tried, and early arrivals have been sent away to return at their window.
- Diamond, Platinum, suite guests and Faster to the Fun buyers still choose a window, but get more flexibility.
- Carnival publishes no single earliest-arrival time, and the final check-in cutoff is reported as 60 or 90 minutes before sailing. Aim to be comfortably ahead of both.
- On Jubilee’s Dec 2025 New Year sailing, windows were shifted and a 3:45 PM all-aboard was stated for that sailing. Carnival-bought transfers adjusted automatically; drivers and independent-transport guests had to adjust themselves. Check the app the day before and the morning of.
Parking
| Port-run lot (Terminals 25 and 28) | Spaces | Access |
|---|---|---|
| Express Lot | 680 | Uncovered, short walk |
| SMP Garage | 400 | Mostly covered, short walk |
| Economy Lot A | 850 | Free shuttle |
| Economy Lot B | 1,250 | Free shuttle |
- Reservations are prepaid online. The port takes cards only, no cash (so the wad of twenties stays home), and gives no refund after the sail date.
- ADA spaces are first-come, first-served. Discounts exist for loyalty members, disabled veterans and monthly promo codes.
- Help line: [email protected] or (409) 766-6163, 8 AM–5 PM daily.
- Check the port’s booking page for your exact rate. Third-party estimates are about $25 a day for the Express Lot and SMP Garage, or roughly $150 for six days and $175 for seven. Private lots reportedly run about $17–19 a day. Reported fees on top (an online service fee, a terminal access fee, a city fee and sales tax) mean the sticker price isn’t the final one.
Airport transfers
| Airport | Distance | Drive | Carnival transfer, one way, per person* |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hobby (HOU) | about 45 miles | 55–65 min | about $41.99 |
| Bush Intercontinental (IAH) | about 70 miles | 80–90 min | about $58.99 |
*Third-party quotes of undetermined date; verify on Carnival.com. The return is priced similarly, so round trip is roughly double, about $84 from Hobby and $118 from IAH per person. Older, unverified independent options: shared shuttles from about $50–75 round trip per person, an Uber from Hobby around $55–60 for the whole group, and taxis at roughly $150–200 round trip from Hobby and $250–300 from IAH.
The night before
We have no reliable 2026 hotel pricing. The 2023-era consensus is that Galveston hotels run roughly $50 or more per night above Houston ones, and many airport-area Houston hotels run pier shuttles on sailing day. Verify any rate and any shuttle directly with the hotel.
The Ship and How to Work It
Jubilee is a zone-based, LNG-powered Excel-class ship, so learn six neighbourhoods and you’ve learned the map.
The zones are Grand Central, Currents, The Shores, Summer Landing, Lido and The Ultimate Playground. That layout is specific to Jubilee, so don’t assume other Carnival ships match. Her latest CDC Vessel Sanitation Program score is 100 from an inspection on 2026-03-07. Our Carnival Jubilee ship page has the details.
Eating
| Included | Extra cost |
|---|---|
| Guy’s Burger Joint, Big Chicken, Coastal Slice pizza, Marina Bar and Beach Buns (The Shores), Street Eats and BlueIguana Cantina (Lido), Swirls soft-serve (two locations) | Emeril’s Bistro 717, Cucina del Capitano, Rudi’s Seagrill, Bonsai Teppanyaki, Bonsai Sushi, Guy’s Pig & Anchor Smokehouse | Brewhouse, Fahrenheit 555 Steakhouse, Seafood Shack |
- JavaBlue Café: confirm in the app whether your order is included or extra.
- Main dining room names and hours aren’t confirmed here, so check the Hub app rather than trusting a blog.
- Fahrenheit 555 is listed at about $52 per adult and $15 per child 11 and under, with wine pairing about $24 more. An older Jubilee guide still shows $48, so confirm the current price.
- Bonsai Sushi is à la carte with items generally under $10. Bonsai Teppanyaki is a fixed per-person price (a 2025 fleet-wide report gave about $57.82). We have no confirmed Jubilee price for Cucina del Capitano.
- Kids in Family Harbor staterooms eat free at most specialty restaurants and get one free evening of Night Owls.
Play, kids and the grown-up corners
- Included: WaterWorks (three spiralling slides, Blue Lightning, Orange Thunder and Twister, plus a giant dumping bucket and twin racing slides) and SportSquare (mini-golf, basketball, a ropes course and more). Extra: BOLT, the all-electric sea coaster.
- Kids’ programs (secondary-source age bands; check Carnival’s kids page): Camp Ocean is free for ages 2–11 (Penguins 2–5, Stingrays 6–8, Sharks 9–11), Circle C is 12–14 and Club O2 is 15–17. Night Owls is paid late-night childcare; confirm its age limit and price.
- Adults-only: Serenity Adult-Only Retreat costs extra (check minimum age and price). Havana Bar & Pool is for Havana stateroom guests aged 12 and up, so it isn’t open to all adults. Loft 19’s infinity whirlpool is for Excel suite guests, while cabana rentals are open to everyone.
- Shows: Included options are Family Feud Live, Center Stage shows, Punchliner Comedy Club, Piano Bar 88 and Seaquest. Dr. Inks, Ph.D. and The Golden Mermaid have live music at extra cost, as does Cloud 9 Spa. Which shows run on your week isn’t published, so treat the lineup as typical, not guaranteed.
The Hub app
Per Carnival, you can reserve restaurants, shows, spa services, shore excursions and specialty dining ahead of time, and they land in your planner. It also offers chat, ship maps, menus via QR codes, pool food delivery, muster navigation and disembarkation-time reservations. It works in Airplane Mode with no internet purchase needed. Faster to the Fun (priority boarding, first stateroom access, priority luggage delivery) was $159.95 per stateroom for 6–8 day Excel-class cruises in 2024. That’s outdated, so check the Cruise Planner for the current price.
The Ports
Listings show roughly 8 hours in Cozumel and 9 in Roatan, so pick one ambition per port.
Day-by-day: Sun 17 Jan depart Galveston; Mon 18 sea; Tue 19 Cozumel; Wed 20 Roatan; Thu 21 and Fri 22 sea; Sat 23 arrive Galveston. The port hours come from the iCruise listing, not Carnival’s own page, so reconfirm them in the Hub app or on carnival.com. Other Jubilee itineraries use different port mixes, so make sure your Cruise Planner shows this one.
Cozumel (Tue 19 Jan, listed 9:00 AM–5:00 PM)
Carnival ships normally use Puerta Maya, which is a taxi ride from anything worth doing. That’s a general pattern, not a confirmed berth for 19 Jan, so check the app. Downtown San Miguel is about 5.5 km (3.5 mi) away, roughly 13–15 minutes by taxi. Walking isn’t recommended: busy road, heat and little shade. Taxis are unmetered, so agree the fare before you get in and negotiate like you mean it.
| Option | Ballpark cost |
|---|---|
| Taxi downtown | about $10–15 per ride |
| Taxi to a beach club | about $14–15 each way |
| Van (seats up to 8) | about $30 each way, roughly $4 each if full |
| Paradise Beach | $15 entry plus $10 minimum food and drink spend |
| Chankanaab park | about $22 per adult |
| Cruise-line excursions | about $70–150 per person (blog range, not a Carnival quote) |
| Mainland Tulum/Chichen Itza | around $140 |
These are undated guide estimates. A mainland trip in a listed 8-hour call leaves almost no slack, and the ship waits for Carnival-booked tours but not for independent stragglers. Paradise Beach can sell out on multi-ship days, and the beaches right by the pier aren’t ideal for swimming. USD is widely accepted, but change may come back in pesos at a poor rate, so carry small bills. Cards are widely used.
Roatan (Wed 20 Jan, listed 9:00 AM–6:00 PM)
Isla Tropicale is a Carnival-run terminal where you can do a whole day without leaving the gates. It was formerly called Mahogany Bay, and some listings still use that name. Our database also tags Coxen Hole, the separate non-Carnival port that Carnival ships sometimes use in rough weather, so the app confirms your dock.
- On site: shops, restaurants, bars, and the Mangrove Bay area with a pool, swim-up bar, cabanas and a kids’ splash pad.
- The beach is a short walk or roughly a 5-minute chairlift ride. It’s calm and clear with snorkelling from the sand, but small, and it fills on two-ship days.
- Carnival sells reef snorkelling and diving, wildlife reserves, zip-lining and nature hikes. Independent taxi fares to West End or West Bay aren’t established, so ask before you commit.
- Leave a buffer: traffic near the port can build in the hour before all-aboard.
- Currency and tipping norms aren’t established here. Check Carnival’s port information, and see our cruise tipping guide for onboard rules.
Safety
Quintana Roo, which includes Cozumel, has been reported at Level 2, “Exercise Increased Caution.” Honduras has carried Level 3, “Reconsider Travel,” for crime, with Bay Islands resort areas described as better policed. Check travel.state.gov for the current levels before you go. The practical advice: watch belongings, use lockers for valuables, skip public transport and white car taxis in Roatan, and watch the clock.
Conditions and Packing for This Season
Hurricanes aren’t your problem in January; cold fronts are. The Atlantic season runs 1 June–30 Nov, so a 17–23 Jan sailing sits outside it. Winter “northers” are the real weather variable, and they do not RSVP.
| Place | Typical conditions |
|---|---|
| Galveston (17–23 Jan) | Normal high 63°F, low 49°F; about 0.86 in of rain across the week |
| Northern Gulf air | 59–66°F; a front can drop temperatures 18–27°F in 24 hours |
| NW Gulf sea surface | 64–72°F |
| Cozumel | Highs about 77–82°F, lows 65–70°F, sea about 79°F |
| Roatan | Highs around 80°F, lows from the high 60s to mid-70s°F |
| Waves of 8 ft or more (January climatology) | Gulf about 10–15%; NW Caribbean about 10–20% |
The sea-state figures come from a 2021 commercial marine-climatology page, so read them as rough odds. The same page puts gale risk at about 3% in the western Gulf, mostly from fronts. My read, not a measured statistic: the first day and a half out of Galveston and the last two sea days are the most exposed to front-driven swell, while the ports are sheltered by comparison.
Rainfall figures for Cozumel and Roatan conflict wildly between sources, so we won’t print one. January is still the wetter part of the year in Roatan, with short bursts.
- Galveston days: light jacket or fleece, long trousers, closed shoes.
- Port days: shorts, swimwear, reef-safe sunscreen, hat, and a light rain layer for Roatan.
- Sea days: bring a wind layer, because the Gulf legs can be chilly on deck even when the Caribbean legs are warm.
- Seasickness remedy: pack one as a precaution. Future you will be grateful.
Money: What You’ll Actually Pay
Budget the gratuity and the packages before you budget the fun. All figures are per person unless noted, as of October 2026, and package prices may change on Dec 1.
| Item | Price per day | 6 days, per person |
|---|---|---|
| Gratuity, standard stateroom | $17 | $102 |
| Gratuity, suite | $19 | $114 |
| CHEERS! bought before the cruise | $69.95 + 20% = $83.94 | $503.64 |
| CHEERS! bought onboard | $74.95 + 20% = $89.94 | $539.64 |
| Bottomless Bubbles (adult) | $11.99 + 20% = $14.39 | about $86 |
| Wi-Fi Social (pre-cruise) | $20.40 | $122.40 |
| Wi-Fi Value | $23.80 | $142.80 |
| Wi-Fi Premium | $25.50 | $153.00 |
| Wi-Fi Premium Multi-Device (up to 4 devices) | $90 | $540 |
The Wi-Fi rows are before-cruise online prices. Whether Carnival charges 6 or 7 days isn’t established, so confirm the day count on your invoice. Two adults in a standard stateroom would pay about $204 in gratuities on a 6-day count. The gratuity applies to all ages, per a secondary source. The child Bottomless Bubbles rate is $6.95 plus the 20% charge. Carnival says pre-purchasing Wi-Fi saves about 15% on average and up to 25% on Multi-Device.
Is the drink package worth it?
Only if you drink like it’s a job. At $83.94 a day, you need roughly six cocktails at $14 or seven at $12 to break even, using a 2026 guide’s $12–$14+ cocktail range (some of its figures date from 2022 and may be low). Lighter drinkers will do better with a bar tab. Confirm the daily cap, the cabin-wide purchase rule and the minimum age on Carnival’s own page.
Bring your own
- Each guest 21 or older may bring one sealed 750 ml bottle of wine or champagne in carry-on on embarkation day. That’s per person, not per cabin.
- Corkage is $15 per bottle in a dining room or bar. Wine for your stateroom isn’t charged.
- No liquor, beer or fortified wines over 15% ABV. Port-bought alcohol is held and returned at the end.
- Bottled water and soda aren’t allowed. Sealed cans or cartons in small quantities are, and one guide says up to 12 cans of 12 oz. Confirm that with Carnival.
The longer version lives on our bring alcohol on a cruise page.
Fees and unknowns
Mexico’s cruise passenger fee is $10 per guest for sailings from 2026-08-01 to 2027-06-30, charged once per itinerary even across several Mexican calls. Cruise lines collect and remit it, and reports say some are folding it into the fare. How Carnival itemises it isn’t confirmed, so check your booking summary. We found no sourced photo pricing and no sourced Cozumel or Roatan excursion prices from Carnival, so check the Cruise Planner.
Documents
US citizens can generally sail closed-loop without a passport, but take one anyway.
- Closed-loop sailings (start and end in the same US port) calling at Mexico or the Caribbean don’t require a passport at any age, per cruise-industry guidance.
- Ages 16 and over need government photo ID plus proof of citizenship, usually a birth certificate. Under 16 needs a birth certificate (original, photocopy or certified copy). Hospital-issued “certificates of birth” and baptismal papers aren’t acceptable.
- Honduras muddies the water. One July 2026 guide says US citizens “may be able to” sail with ID and a birth certificate while still recommending a passport. A passport also helps if someone must fly home from a foreign port.
- Non-US citizens: passports are normally required, and visa needs depend on nationality and each country’s rules. Green card holders should confirm their documentation with Carnival.
- We found no Carnival-specific minor-consent rule, so ask Carnival if a child is travelling with one adult.
- CBD products are prohibited even where they’re legal in the US. Heating appliances, including irons, are generally banned, and Carnival ships have self-service laundry rooms with irons. Check Carnival’s Prohibited Items help page for the full list, and keep medication in original labelled containers in carry-on (general advice, not a Carnival rule).
FAQ: Your Last-Minute Searches
Do I need a passport for the Carnival Jubilee from Galveston?
US citizens on a closed-loop sailing generally don’t need one. Ages 16 and over need photo ID plus a birth certificate, and under 16 need a birth certificate. This itinerary stops in Honduras, though, and a passport is strongly advised in case you miss the ship or must fly home. Check Carnival’s current wording before you go.
What time does the Carnival Jubilee leave Galveston on January 17, 2027?
Third-party listings show a 3:30 PM departure. We haven’t found all-aboard times published, so check the Hub app and your final cruise documents. Times can shift: on Jubilee’s Dec 2025 New Year sailing, arrival windows were shifted and a 3:45 PM all-aboard was stated for that sailing. Trust your own cruise documents over this page.
How much is the drink package on Carnival Jubilee?
CHEERS! is $69.95 per person per day before the cruise or $74.95 onboard, plus a 20% service charge. That works out to $83.94 or $89.94. Six days pre-cruise comes to $503.64 per person. Carnival moves packages to dynamic pricing on Dec 1, 2026, so these numbers may change.
Can I bring wine on Carnival?
Yes, within limits. Each guest 21 or older can bring one sealed 750 ml bottle of wine or champagne in carry-on luggage on embarkation day. Corkage is $15 per bottle if you drink it in a dining room or bar. Liquor and beer aren’t allowed. Our bring-alcohol page has more detail.
Is it cold on a January cruise from Galveston?
The first and last days can be. Galveston’s normal high for 17–23 Jan is 63°F with a low of 49°F, and a cold front can drop Gulf air temperatures by 18–27°F in 24 hours. Once you reach Cozumel and Roatan, expect highs of roughly 77–82°F. Pack layers and a wind jacket.
How do I get from Houston airport to the Galveston cruise port?
Hobby is about 45 miles and 55–65 minutes from the port. Bush Intercontinental is about 70 miles and 80–90 minutes. Carnival’s transfer is quoted around $41.99 per person one way from Hobby and $58.99 from IAH, from undated third-party sources. Verify current prices on Carnival.com before booking.
How many sea days are on the Jubilee’s 17 January 2027 cruise?
Three, per third-party itinerary listings: Monday 18 Jan, Thursday 21 Jan and Friday 22 Jan. You’ll have two port days, Cozumel on Tuesday 19 Jan and Roatan on Wednesday 20 Jan. Confirm the schedule in Carnival’s app or your Cruise Planner, since the times haven’t been confirmed on Carnival’s own page.
The Bottom Line
This is a sea-day-heavy week whose real planning work is done before Dec 1 and again around Jan 3. Lock in your package decisions early, prepay parking or book your transfer, and take a passport even though you may not strictly need one. Treat the port times as listed, not guaranteed, until your own app says otherwise. Pack for a chilly Galveston and a warm Caribbean, and keep a seasickness remedy in the bag. Do the homework now, and the only drama left is whether you can resist the soft-serve.
