About Viking Neptune’s Schedule

Viking Neptune is a 47,842-gross-ton Viking Ocean-class ship launched in 2022 sailing for Viking. She carries roughly 928 guests with about 465 crew looking after them. Her most recent CDC sanitation inspection scored 100 out of 100.

We are currently tracking 46 scheduled sailings for this ship, departing between November 2026 and April 2027. Most of those voyages leave from Civitavecchia-Rome, Piraeus-Athens, and Barcelona. Sailings run from 5 to 27 nights, with 12 nights the most typical length.

Upcoming Voyages

What Viking Neptune's Autumn Mediterranean Season Is Actually Like

The Mediterranean in late autumn is not the postcard version. Think fewer sunbathers and more cardigans (yes, I said cardigans, and no, I'm not apologising). Viking Neptune, an adults-only 928-guest ship built in 2022, spends this stretch moving between Venice, Rome, Barcelona, Lisbon and Athens. We count 34 sailings in the period. It is a very different trip from July, and for plenty of people it's a better one.

Weather and sea conditions

Holland America's seasonal guide puts Mediterranean temperatures at roughly 45–70°F (7–21°C) from November through winter. It warns of more rainy days and bigger waves than in summer. It also says the water falls below comfortable swimming temperature (under 68°F/20°C) from late October to May. So book for the sights, not the beach. Viking's ships have a midship pool under a retractable roof, but I wouldn't plan your days around the deck loungers. Nobody is getting a tan in Marseille in November, and the sea will not be doing you any favours either.

What the ports are worth

Port lists are missing from our data for every sailing here, so I went digging through retailer listings. They are third-party, so confirm everything with Viking. Cruiseweb lists the Rome departure on Nov. 10 as a 14-night sailing that ends in Lisbon on Nov. 24. It shows calls at Livorno (the gateway to Florence and Pisa), Monte Carlo, Marseille, Sète, Barcelona, Palma, Cartagena, Málaga, Tangier and Seville, before Lisbon. For the Lisbon departure, CruiseTimetables shows Cadiz, Tangier, Málaga, Cartagena, Palma and Barcelona. Its longer versions continue through Sète, Marseille, Villefranche, Livorno and Civitavecchia, then Naples, Messina, Crete, Kusadasi and Piraeus. The longest runs on to Istanbul.

Offseason suits the big-ticket stops. Florence, Rome, Athens and Ephesus are far more pleasant without summer crowds and heat. Some seaside shops may be closed ahead of next season. Small beach towns won't be at their best. I haven't confirmed port lists for the Venice departures, so I won't guess at them. Check Viking's itinerary page for those.

Which length suits whom

Length (our data)Best for
6 nightsA first taste, done in under a week. Lisbon-to-Barcelona is the classic Iberian sampler.
9–13 nightsThe sweet spot for most retirees and anyone with two weeks of leave. Several of these link Spain, France and Italy.
19–20 nightsTravellers who want Italy and Greece and are happy to be away for most of three weeks.
26–27 nightsCommitted Med-lovers. Retailers list the Lisbon version as 28 nights, reaching Istanbul on Dec. 21 with disembarkation on Dec. 22.

One warning about dates, because this is where plans go to die. Our database shows the Lisbon sailings leaving Nov. 25 at 6, 13, 19 and 26 nights. Retailer listings show the same routes leaving Nov. 24 at 7, 14, 21 and 28 nights. The Rome departure has the same wobble: 13 nights in our data, 14 nights (Nov. 10–24) on Cruiseweb. Confirm the official dates and night count with Viking before you buy flights.

Then there's availability. The CruiseTimetables page lists the Lisbon 14-, 21- and 28-night sailings as sold out in every cabin category. The 7-night Lisbon-to-Barcelona sailing was still showing space. Cabins come and go, so check availability with Viking or your travel agent before you fall in love with an itinerary.

What to pack

  • A waterproof jacket and a compact umbrella. Rain is a real possibility on any day.
  • Layers you can add or remove, since mornings and evenings can feel colder than midday.
  • Shoes with grip, because wet cobbles in Livorno, Seville or Athens are slippery.
  • Modest, covered-shoulder options for Tangier and for churches, plus a warm scarf.
  • A light swimsuit only as a maybe, for the pool or spa. It isn't a beach-day kit.

Seasonal quirks

Hurricanes aren't an issue here, but rougher seas are, so bring seasickness remedies if you're prone. Holland America's guide says late November and winter offer the lowest prices and best discounts for Mediterranean cruising, with thinner crowds to match. That's a general Med pattern, not a Viking price promise, so compare fares for your exact sailing. Italy's Dec. 8 public holiday coincides with the Civitavecchia call on the Lisbon sailing. Expect some local closures and busy churches that day.

Want the ship itself? See our Viking Neptune ship profile. The ship's latest CDC Vessel Sanitation Program score in our database is 100, from the April 22, 2025 inspection. You can look up other ships in our CDC inspection lookup or compare them in the cleanest ship rankings.
