What Valiant Lady's Autumn Caribbean Season Is Actually Like
Valiant Lady has had a big year: a Palermo dry dock, a Mediterranean stint, and now a triumphant return to the Caribbean, sailing round trips from San Juan. (Main-character energy, honestly.) Our schedule data covers sailings from October 31, 2026 into late January 2027, but it doesn't record the ports of call. The port details below come from Virgin Voyages schedules as published by VV Insider and a ticket reseller. Itineraries get reshuffled, so confirm yours before you book flights. Nobody wants to be the person who bought a non-refundable flight on a hunch.
The weather, minus the brochure gloss
The Atlantic hurricane season officially runs June 1 to November 30. The peak is September 10, and most activity falls between mid-August and mid-October, so the odds drop as autumn rolls on. But storms can still form until the season closes, and the first five sailings (October 31, November 7, 14, 20 and 28) all leave inside the official window. A rerouted port isn't unthinkable. Cruise lines reserve the right to swap ports, and compensation for a missed one is usually modest and varies from sailing to sailing. Buy travel insurance and read the fine print. Yes, it's the least glamorous advice in this post. Yes, it's the most useful.
The southern calls, Aruba and Curaçao, sit well south of the main hurricane belt and are widely regarded as some of the safest Caribbean stops in storm season. No island comes with a guarantee, though. Sea temperatures around San Juan are about 28°C (82°F) in November and 27°C (81°F) in December. Daytime highs run around 29°C (84°F) in November and 28°C (82°F) in December. Showers are frequent in both months, with about 19 rainy days in November and 21 in December. November is the wetter month overall, at 178 mm of rain against December's 151 mm. Think "warm bath with occasional drama," not "pristine postcard."
What the ports are worth
- Willemstad and Oranjestad (Curaçao, Aruba): Pastel Dutch-colonial waterfront and reliable beaches, which makes them a smart weather bet for the season. They appear on the October 31, December 5 and December 19 sailings and on the 8-night Thanksgiving trip.
- Philipsburg (St. Maarten): Busy and very much a beach-and-shopping stop. Expect crowds when other ships are in, and pack your elbows.
- Basseterre (St. Kitts), Castries (St. Lucia), Fort-de-France (Martinique), Bridgetown (Barbados): These are the real variety on the 7-night loops. St. Lucia and Martinique reward anyone willing to leave the pier area.
- Road Town (Tortola) and St. John's (Antigua): Easygoing beach days on the 6-night and some 7-night routes. Zero stress, maximum flip-flop.
Which length suits whom
| Length | Departures in our data | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| 6 nights | November 14, January 23 | A shorter escape. The November 14 trip is reported to hit four island ports. |
| 7 nights | 10 sailings, October 31 to January 16 | The default. Several different island mixes, so check which one you're booking. |
| 8 nights | November 20, January 29 | People who want a full week plus a bit more. The November 20 sailing returns November 28, so it spans Thanksgiving. |
Seasonal quirks and pricing
Autumn is shoulder season, and the holidays are not. The December 19 departure covers Christmas week and the December 26 departure covers New Year's, and the price gap shows it. A reseller snapshot listed an External cabin from $1,019 per person on December 12 and from $1,680 per person on December 26. That's $661 more per person for the New Year's week, which buys you a lot of sunscreen and a questionable party hat. Those are "from" fares at one moment in time, so treat them as a pattern rather than a quote. If you're flexible, early and mid-December is the sweet spot.
The ship itself
Valiant Lady is adults-only. She was freshly refitted this spring, with a two-week dry dock at Fincantieri's Palermo yard from May 9 to May 25, 2026. The refit added Ariya by Razzle Dazzle, a 220-seat Indian-inspired restaurant. Our latest CDC Vessel Sanitation Program score for her is 100 out of 100, from the March 28, 2026 inspection. That inspection predates the refit, so consider it the "before" photo. See the CDC inspection lookup for the full record, or the Valiant Lady ship page for specs. What to pack
- Reef-safe sunscreen and a hat. The sun doesn't take November off.
- A light rain jacket or packable poncho for passing showers.
- Water shoes for rocky beaches and sandbars.
- Breathable fabrics and one nicer outfit for evenings.
- Motion-sickness remedies, because open water doesn't care about your itinerary.
