What Hanseatic Inspiration's Autumn Season Is Actually Like
Our sailing list tells you when Hanseatic Inspiration leaves and from where. It doesn't tell you that this is a Jekyll-and-Hyde schedule, the cruise equivalent of a woman who has one suitcase and three climates. Between late October and early March she goes from North Atlantic sweaters to Panama Canal sunscreen to polar parkas, and your luggage is expected to keep up. Our database has no port lists for any of these sailings, so everything below comes from Hapag-Lloyd listings and resellers. Confirm details with the line before you book.
| Departs | Nights | Route | What's confirmed |
|---|---|---|---|
| 25 Oct 2026 | 15 | Halifax to Colón | New York (two days), the Bahamas, Grand Turk, Fuerte San Lorenzo, then Colón. Nine of the 16 listed days are at sea. |
| 9 Nov 2026 | 18 | Colón to Valparaíso | Hapag-Lloyd lists a daytime Panama Canal transit on 10 Nov, then the Pearl Islands, Utria National Park (Colombia), Isla de la Plata (Ecuador), Peru (Paita, Salaverry, Callao and Paracas) and Isla Pan de Azucar in Chile. It arrives in Valparaíso on 27 Nov. |
| 27 Nov 2026 | 16 | Valparaíso to Ushuaia | Chilean fjords. One reseller lists Puerto Montt and Puerto Eden. |
| 13 Dec 2026 | 22 | Ushuaia round trip | Falklands, South Georgia, South Orkneys and South Shetlands. Hapag-Lloyd lists it as 13 Dec to 4 Jan from Ushuaia. One reseller listed it as leaving from Buenos Aires, so check the departure port. |
| 24 Jan and 13 Feb 2027 | 20 each | Ushuaia round trip | Both are confirmed on Hapag-Lloyd's site: 24 Jan returns on 13 Feb, and 13 Feb returns on 5 Mar. Planned stops for the 24 Jan sailing include South Georgia and the Antarctic mainland. |
The first two legs are a repositioning cruise
The Halifax departure is the ship heading south for the winter, like a snowbird with a hull. The route has two days in New York and then very little else. Nine sea days out of 16 is a lot of ocean, so this is for people who like a quiet ship, a lecture and a long lunch (possibly all three at once). Atlantic hurricane season officially runs until 30 November, which covers the whole Caribbean stretch, so keep an eye on the forecast. Pack for Halifax in late October (wind, damp, layers). Then pack for Grand Turk, which is very much not Halifax.
The 15-night sailing arrives in Colón on day 16, and the 18-night leg leaves Colón on 9 November. The two connect, so you could book them back to back. A reseller listed the Halifax sailing from £3,769 per person, but the cabin categories listed started at £5,199 per person for a Panoramic Cabin, so ask what the headline fare actually covers. Hapag-Lloyd's own page lists the Colón–Valparaíso leg from €11,490 per person in its SILVER fare, so check exactly what that fare includes before you compare it with reseller prices. The Panama Canal daytime transit is the highlight of that leg. Pack for tropical heat, then for the cooler Pacific coast, which can feel very different from the Caribbean.
Southern spring is a good time for the south
Autumn in the north is spring and early summer in the south. The Valparaíso–Ushuaia leg is a Chilean fjords cruise, with glaciers, narrow channels and wildlife. It also works as a gentler warm-up before Antarctica. Expect changeable weather: rain, wind and fog are all normal.
The Ushuaia round trips are the real polar expeditions. Sources put Antarctic summer temperatures at roughly −5°C to 8°C (23°F to 46°F), and South Georgia at about 0°C to 10°C (32°F to 50°F). Wind chill on a Zodiac is the real issue, not the number on the thermometer. The Drake Passage takes about two days each way, and its conditions are unpredictable at any time of year, so bring seasickness remedies and don't count on a smooth ride. The 22-night December sailing is the Christmas and New Year trip, and it is popular. Hapag-Lloyd's own pages showed it, and both the 24 Jan and 13 Feb sailings, as booked up in mid-October, so ask the line about availability.
Which length suits whom
- 15 nights: Good if you want a long, easy voyage with a few city stops and a lot of sea days, and you're happy with a ship repositioning south.
- 16 and 18 nights: Best for scenery lovers who want fjords or a Panama Canal crossing without committing to Antarctica.
- 20 and 22 nights: For the polar trip. The ship carries 199 guests on Antarctic cruises and has 170 crew. She's ice-strengthened, and one review describes her as PC6 ice-classed. Landings go by Zodiac in groups, because Antarctic landing rules limit how many people can be ashore at once.
Packing and ship notes
For the polar legs, think thermal base layers, wool socks and waterproof outer layers. Most polar expedition cruises give you a free jacket, so check with Hapag-Lloyd before you buy an expensive parka. For cabin choices, our cabin size guide shows what you get at each level. For hygiene, the ship's latest CDC Vessel Sanitation Program score is 89 out of 100, from an inspection on 28 October 2024. You can compare it with other ships in the CDC inspection lookup. The full specs are on the ship page.
