What Disney Wonder's Autumn Mexican Riviera / Baja Season Is Actually Like

Disney Wonder spent the summer in Alaska, went through a roughly 14-day drydock in August (new carpet, a repainted hull, a refreshed Edge tween space, 100-plus projects), and has now settled in at San Diego for the season. Think of it as a ship coming home from a gap year with a fresh haircut and a lot of new opinions about carpet. Today, October 27, the 6-night Cabo sailing leaves. The season runs through late December and has a lot more variety than "Mexico, but short."

The ports, and what they're actually worth

The itineraries below are based on published schedules. Disney can swap ports, so check your booking before you plan around any of them.

  • Ensenada: The workhorse. It's a working Baja town with a fish market, tacos and a short walk from the dock. It's a quick, easy stop, not a dramatic one (no one has ever written an opera about Ensenada, and that's okay). On the 3- and 4-night sailings it's the only Mexican port, and that's fine.
  • Cabo San Lucas: The real postcard. It's a tender port, so the ship anchors offshore and you ride a boat in. That adds time at both ends of the day, and guests with excursions tend to go first. Go early. Whale season generally starts around December. Only two sailings call at Cabo in December: the 5-night leaving November 29 (Cabo on December 1) and the 7-night leaving December 22.
  • Mazatlán: Only the 7-night sailing leaving November 22 calls here, on November 25. It's a proper city with a historic centre, and it's the best reason to pick that sailing. The other 7-night, leaving December 22, swaps Mazatlán for Puerto Vallarta, so don't book the wrong week and then wonder where your historic centre went.
  • Catalina Island: The 4-night Baja sailings leaving November 5, December 7, December 11 and December 18 each add a stop here, along with Ensenada. Disney markets these as Baja itineraries, not Mexican Riviera ones. Catalina is in California, so no passport stamp. On the November 5 sailing, Catalina is on November 7 and Ensenada on November 8.

6 nightsOct 27, Nov 16Ensenada, Cabo San LucasSea-day fans
7 nightsNov 22, Dec 22Nov 22: Mazatlán, Cabo San Lucas, Ensenada. Dec 22: Ensenada, Cabo San Lucas, Puerto VallartaPort collectors

A note on the short ones: on the 3-night sailing from November 2, the ship pulls into Ensenada on November 3 and is back in San Diego on November 5, so you're in port for a day and at sea for the rest. Think of it as a floating mini-vacation, not a Mexico trip.

The 5-night is the one to look at if you want Cabo without a week's commitment. On the November 29 sailing, the Cabo stop on December 1 runs 11:00 to 17:30, and Ensenada on December 3 runs 10:30 to 18:00, according to Cruise Timetables. Those are generous port days for a sailing this short.

Weather and sea conditions

Autumn is the tail end of the Eastern Pacific hurricane season, which officially runs May 15 through November 30, according to the National Hurricane Center. Late-season storms are possible, and itineraries can change, but by December you're past the official season. The Baja end of the route turns cooler and breezier as the season goes on, and Ensenada and San Diego can be properly chilly in the evenings. Cabo is the warm one, with lots of sun. Check the forecast close to your sailing for actual temperatures. Winter swells off Baja can also make the open stretches between ports a bit lively. The longer sailings spend more time in open water between ports.

What to pack

  • Layers: a light jacket or sweater for the deck, Ensenada and the evenings.
  • Swimwear and sunscreen for Cabo, plus a hat.
  • Sturdy sandals or sneakers for tender boarding and cobbled streets.
  • Motion-sickness remedies, just in case.
  • A refillable bottle. Skip the tap water ashore.

Seasonal quirks

Disney Cruise Line says its Very Merrytime Cruises run from November to December 2026, so expect decorations and holiday-themed entertainment on much of the Wonder's season. Disney's announcement doesn't spell out the dates, but the published schedules from WDWNT and Cruise Timetables label every San Diego sailing from November 9 through the December 22 departure as Very Merrytime. The sailings leaving November 2 and November 5 aren't labelled, so those are the ones to pick if you'd rather skip the tinsel. Confirm on the sailing page at disneycruise.com before you book. Fares vary by date and cabin and change often, so compare the sailings you're considering on disneycruise.com for current prices.

The Wonder is a small ship by today's standards, so check the Disney Wonder ship page for specs and sanitation history, browse the full sailing list for dates, and use the cabin size guide before you commit to a room on a 7-night run.
