The Tea

Seattle's cruise terminal at Pier 91 (or the newer T-5) is your gateway to Alaska, and the city knows it. What they don't mention in the Alaska cruise brochures: Seattle's pier area is not in the trendy, Pike Place Market part of town. It's in the Interbay/Magnolia neighborhood, which is fine but requires a rideshare to reach anything interesting.

The good news? Seattle itself is genuinely worth a pre- or post-cruise stay. The bad news? Parking at the port runs $25/day, and driving to the terminal during embarkation day means sharing the road with thousands of confused tourists following GPS through residential neighborhoods.

Real talk: if your cruise departs on a Saturday, book a hotel downtown on Friday night. The walk-on experience is infinitely better than trying to park and shuttle on the morning of. And Seattle's food scene alone is worth the extra night.
