The Tea
The Port of Los Angeles / Long Beach sounds exciting until you realize it's in San Pedro — a working-class harbor town about 30 miles from anything resembling "Hollywood" or "Beverly Hills." The cruise terminal is fine, but the surrounding area is industrial port meets strip mall meets container ship depot.
Getting here involves LA traffic, which is a special kind of suffering. From LAX it's technically 25 minutes but practically 45-90 minutes depending on when you're driving. Parking runs $22/day and the lot fills up fast for Mexican Riviera sailings. The port has zero walkability — unless you enjoy walking past petroleum refineries.
The real talk: if you're doing a Mexican Riviera or coastal California cruise, this is your only option on the West Coast (San Diego has limited sailings). Just don't expect the LA glamour. Plan to Uber directly to the terminal, board your ship, and pretend you're already on vacation.
