The Tea
Honolulu is the port that makes you question why you're on a cruise ship at all. Waikiki Beach, Diamond Head, Pearl Harbor — all of it is right here, and a one-week stay would barely scratch the surface. Getting a six-hour port call feels like being offered one bite of an incredible meal.
The good news: the port at Aloha Tower is somewhat walkable to downtown and Chinatown. The bus system ($5.50 day pass) can get you to Waikiki in 20 minutes. The challenge is prioritizing — do you do Pearl Harbor (minimum 3 hours), Diamond Head hike (2 hours), or Waikiki Beach (all day)?
The honest take: Honolulu on a cruise is frustrating because the island deserves so much more time than a port day allows. The prices are mainland-US-expensive (it's a state, after all), and everything good requires transportation. If Hawaii is your main draw, consider a land-based vacation instead. If it's a bonus port on a Pacific cruise, enjoy the glimpse.
