The Tea
Half Moon Cay is Holland America Line's private island (shared with Carnival), and it's the most "natural" of the major private islands — meaning less infrastructure, more actual beach. The horseback riding through the surf is one of the most iconic cruise excursion photos in the industry.
The island has a beautiful crescent beach, a small shopping area, and various water sports. It's less developed than CocoCay or Castaway Cay, which gives it a more relaxed vibe. Lunch is included but is basic barbecue fare — fine, not exceptional.
The tea: Half Moon Cay is the private island for people who just want a gorgeous beach without the production. No waterparks, no zip lines, no engineered "experiences." Just sand, water, and a cold drink. Sometimes that's exactly what a cruise day should be.
