The Tea
Ensenada is the default port for short cruises out of Los Angeles and San Diego, and it leans hard into its role as a laid-back Mexican beach town. The port area has improved significantly in recent years, with restaurants, shops, and the famous La Bufadora blowhole excursion.
Avenida Primera (First Avenue) near the port is walkable and has good restaurants and bars — the fish tacos here are legitimately excellent and cost $2-3 each. The wine region of Valle de Guadalupe is 30 minutes away and is Mexico's answer to Napa Valley (seriously, it's that good).
The tea: Ensenada is the most chill cruise port in the Americas. Nobody's hustling you, the food is great and cheap, and the vibe is "Mexican beach town that happens to have a cruise ship." It's not exotic or exciting, but for a 3-4 day cruise, it's a perfectly pleasant day ashore.
