The Tea
Dominica (not the Dominican Republic — they get confused a lot) is the "Nature Island of the Caribbean," and it's the least touristy, most rugged port you'll visit on a standard Caribbean cruise. There's no white-sand beach scene here — this is rainforest, volcanic hot springs, and hiking waterfalls.
The Roseau cruise port is small and basic. The town itself is working-class Caribbean — not polished, not curated, but real. The excursion to Trafalgar Falls or Titou Gorge is genuinely spectacular if you're up for a hike, and the Champagne Reef (named for volcanic bubbles in the water) is a unique snorkeling experience.
The honest take: if you want a beach day, Dominica is the wrong port. If you want an adventure that feels nothing like a cruise port, it's the right one. The island's economy is one of the poorest in the Caribbean, and your tourist dollars make a real difference here. Just know that infrastructure is basic and the roads are… creative.
