The Tea
Perfect Day at CocoCay is Royal Caribbean's $250 million private island in the Bahamas, and it is exactly as engineered as that sentence implies. Thrill Waterpark, the tallest waterslide in North America, a helium balloon ride, an overwater cabana complex — it's a theme park that happens to be on a beach.
The island is impressive and the production value is undeniable. But everything beyond the basic beach and lunch costs extra — the Thrill Waterpark is $75+, Coco Beach Club cabanas start at $200, and even the "good" beach requires a Coco Beach Club reservation on busy days.
The tea: CocoCay is Royal Caribbean's revenue-maximizing masterpiece. The free areas (Chill Island beach, South Beach) are genuinely nice, and the included food is decent. But the whole experience is designed to make you spend more money on what is supposed to be the "free" port day. Every lounge chair placement, every food outlet location is strategic.
