The Tea
Maui (Kahului) is the Hawaii cruise port that feels least like a cruise port — because it isn't really set up for one. The harbor at Kahului is industrial, with no cruise-specific facilities. You'll need a rental car or excursion to access anything worth seeing, and Maui's attractions are spread across the entire island.
The Road to Hana is legendary, Haleakala sunrise is life-changing, and the beaches (Ka'anapali, Wailea, Ho'okipa) are world-class. But nothing is walkable from the port, and Maui's prices will make your cruise ship buffet feel like a bargain.
The tea: Maui is incredible but visiting it on a cruise ship day is like trying to see the Grand Canyon through a keyhole. You get a taste but not the experience. If Maui is on your itinerary, book a full-island tour or rent a car — the port area in Kahului offers essentially nothing.
