Carnival Legend leaves Tampa on Sunday, January 31, 2027, for 13 nights of southern Caribbean and Panama, which is a long way from the usual Bahamas hop. Think road trip, not long weekend with a buffet. You get six sea days, six ports, a Colón stop with a passport catch, and a return to Tampa on Saturday, February 13. It’s 100 days away today, so grab a calendar, because a few deadlines are already circling.
Start Here
- Now: check that your passport book is valid through at least August 13, 2027 (six months past the February 13 return). You need the book, not the card, to go ashore in Panama.
- Now: book your pre-cruise night in Tampa. That’s the night of Saturday, January 30, and you don’t want to be shopping for it the week before.
- About November 2 (or December 2): specialty dining reservations may open, on a 90- or 60-day window. The exact date for this sailing isn’t confirmed, so check the Cruise Planner.
- Before December 1: Carnival is reportedly moving drink packages and Wi-Fi to dynamic pricing on that date. Prices may then vary by sailing, so screenshot what you see now.
- About January 17 (January 15 for Diamond, Platinum and suite guests): online check-in and your arrival appointment open. Check-in closes at midnight Eastern on January 30.
- January 30: it’s your hotel night, so pack your one wine bottle in your carry-on before bed.

| Returns | Tampa, Saturday February 13, 2027, 8:00 AM |
| Length | 13 nights (14 calendar days) |
| Route | Grand Cayman, Puerto Limón, Colón, Aruba, Curaçao, Amber Cove |

| CDC inspection | Score of 100, inspected March 6, 2026 |
| Fares seen | Aggregator “from” prices of about $1,217-$1,244 (AAA and Cruiseweb listings); they change often |
Our own database has no port list for this sailing. The route and times above come from third-party schedules, including Cruisebound, Cruise Time Tables and Cruiseweb, which list the same port order. Confirm it on Carnival’s site before you book anything non-refundable. The fares are aggregator snapshots that move constantly, and a “from” price is usually the cheapest cabin. Check the cabin type and whether the price is per person when you book.
What to Do Now and the Deadlines That Bite
The calendar is tight at both ends: money decisions in November and December, paperwork in January. Here’s the order of play, for people who like their deadlines in sequence.
| Date | What happens | How sure we are |
|---|---|---|
| Nov 2, 2026 | Specialty dining could open (90 days out) | Unconfirmed; some sailings use 60 days |
| Dec 1, 2026 | Reported switch to dynamic pricing for drink packages and Wi-Fi | Reported only; check the Cruise Planner |
| Dec 2, 2026 | Dining opens if the 60-day window applies | Unconfirmed |
| Jan 15, 2027 | Check-in reportedly opens for Diamond, Platinum, suites (16 days out) | Forum and guide reports |
| Jan 17, 2027 | Check-in opens for everyone else (14 days out) | Per Carnival’s help centre; confirm |
| Jan 30, 2027, midnight ET | Online check-in closes | Carnival help page |
“Sold out” on Carnival’s dining page can just mean reservations haven’t been activated yet. Don’t panic-book a different night. Pre-cruise specialty bookings reportedly need payment up front.
Embarkation Logistics
Choose an arrival appointment, hand your bags to a porter early, and treat final boarding as a hard line, not a suggestion. Carnival sets the appointment per stateroom, so everyone in your cabin should arrive in that window. Skip the selection and you’re auto-assigned one.
- Terminal: Port Tampa Bay has Terminal 2 (651 Channelside Dr.), Terminal 3 (815 Channelside Dr.) and Terminal 6 (1333 McKay St.). Terminal 3 is likely for Legend but unconfirmed, so trust your boarding pass.
- Drop-off: follow the port’s “BLUE ROUTE” signs.
- Bags: guests arriving before 1:30 PM usually hand bags to a porter. Checked-baggage service ends 2 hours before the published departure. With a 5:00 PM sailing that would be about 3:00 PM, which is our inference, not a Carnival-published time.
- Final boarding: be aboard by the time printed on your boarding pass or you don’t sail.
Parking
The official Channelside Parking Garage (810 Channelside Dr.) is the simple option, but the port doesn’t publish its daily rate. It’s across from Terminal 3, and prepaying is available. Valet is a $20 upgrade. Simple does cost more than the off-site lots, as the table shows.
| Option | Daily rate | 13 days |
|---|---|---|
| Channelside garage (Cruzely quote, Dec 2025) | $18 + $9.99 one-time fee | about $244 (about $262 for 14 days) |
| 241 Car Services (free shuttle) | $8.99 | $116.87 |
| Park 4 Cruise (free shuttle) | $10.50 | $136.50 |
| Rightway (shuttle) | $14.99 | $194.87 |
Off-site lots are unofficial, and rates exclude taxes and fees. The 13-day totals are our arithmetic, not quoted prices, and whether you’re charged for 13 or 14 days depends on the lot. CruiseHive quotes “from $15/day” for the garage, which conflicts with Cruzely, so check the port’s prepay site.
Hotel and airport
Book the night of Saturday, January 30 now, and read the parking fine print. The Barrymore Hotel advertises a package with port transport and parking for up to 10 days, which falls short of 13 nights. Ask what happens beyond day 10. Other names that come up are the Hampton Inn Tampa Downtown Channel District, Holiday Inn Express & Suites Tampa East-Ybor City, and Sailport Waterfront Suites. We found no current 2026-27 rates.
The airport is a “convenient 15-minute drive” from the Channelside District, per the port. Secondary sources give these ranges:
- Taxi: about $25-$35 flat, per ride.
- Uber/Lyft: about $20-$40 per ride, with surge possible.
- Shared shuttle: about $15-$25 per person.
The Ship and How to Work It
Legend is a mid-size 2002 ship that picked up a real glow-up in a 2024 dry dock, then a lighter 2026 visit. The 2024 work added a dedicated Chef’s Table restaurant, Heroes Tribute Bar & Lounge, a redone casino and a Seaside Theater dive-in movie screen. Medusa’s Lair was cut from two decks to one, freeing space for new ADA-accessible cabins. Balconies were redone and repainted. The 2026 yard period (back in service in Miami on May 20, 2026, after 16 days) is documented mainly as maintenance plus a new “From Sea to Shining Sea” bow crest. Yes, a crest. See our Carnival Legend ship page for the profile.
Eating
- Included: Truffles (main dining room), Lido Marketplace, Guy’s Burger Joint, BlueIguana Cantina, the Carnival Deli, Seaday Brunch, Swirls and Unicorn Café.
- Extra cost: Fahrenheit 555 Steakhouse, the Chef’s Table, Bonsai Sushi and the Coffee Bar.
- Steakhouse price: no 2026 US figure found. 2025 reports on other ships showed $52 per adult, so budget “$50-plus per adult” and confirm at booking.
- Dining-room timing: fixed versus flexible seating isn’t confirmed for this sailing. Check your booking and the Cruise Planner.
Drinking, splashing, kids
- Bars: RedFrog Pub (included), plus extra-cost RedFrog Rum Bar, Alchemy Bar and Heroes Tribute Bar & Lounge. Billie’s Piano Bar is on the list too.
- Water: Camelot and Avalon pools, the Green Thunder waterslide and WaterWorks (included).
- Adults-only: Serenity Adult-Only Retreat is included. Its minimum age isn’t confirmed, so check with Carnival.
- Shows and nightlife: Family Feud Live, The Punchliner Comedy Club and Playlist Productions are included. Medusa’s Lair is the dance club, Club Merlin is the casino, and Cloud 9 Spa costs extra.
- Kids: Camp Ocean is included, with three supervised youth areas. Third-party age bands run Penguins 2-5, Stingrays 6-8, Sharks 9-11, Circle C 12-14 and Club O2 15-17, but check Carnival for the official ages and any pre-registration rule.
The Ports
Six ports, two long days (Colón and Aruba), and one tender port you can’t wing. Times below are the listed arrival and departure windows. Your daily planner will print the all-aboard time, so use that, not these.
| Day | Date | Stop | Listed window |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Sun Jan 31 | Tampa | Departs 5:00 PM |
| 2 | Mon Feb 1 | Sea | – |
| 3 | Tue Feb 2 | Grand Cayman | 9:00 AM-5:00 PM |
| 4 | Wed Feb 3 | Sea | – |
| 5 | Thu Feb 4 | Puerto Limón, Costa Rica | 8:00 AM-4:00 PM |
| 6 | Fri Feb 5 | Colón, Panama | 9:00 AM-6:30 PM |
| 7 | Sat Feb 6 | Sea | – |
| 8 | Sun Feb 7 | Aruba | 9:00 AM-10:00 PM |
| 9 | Mon Feb 8 | Curaçao | 8:00 AM-4:00 PM |
| 10 | Tue Feb 9 | Sea | – |
| 11 | Wed Feb 10 | Amber Cove, Dominican Republic | 8:00 AM-4:00 PM |
| 12-13 | Thu-Fri Feb 11-12 | Sea | – |
| 14 | Sat Feb 13 | Tampa | Arrives 8:00 AM |
More detail on the route is on our Carnival Legend itineraries page. Itineraries can change, so recheck closer to sailing.
Grand Cayman (Feb 2)
This is a tender port, so ride the tender and expect a queue. A port guide says George Town has no piers for full-size ships. We found no Carnival tender procedure for this sailing, so read the daily planner. George Town shopping is walkable from the tender dock, while Seven Mile Beach is about 2.8 miles away.
- Stingray City: a local operator lists a morning trip at about $65 per person and a sandbar snorkel at $60, with transport to the meeting point not included. One past Carnival passenger reported $79.99 for the ship excursion.
- Trade-off: independent is cheaper, but the ship waits for its own excursions and not for you.
- Money: Cayman dollars are the currency, though USD is widely accepted. Some vendors convert only 1:1.
Puerto Limón, Costa Rica (Feb 4)
Do the canals and wildlife, and forget San José. The capital is at least 4 hours each way (about 160 km), which is impossible on an 8-hour call. A Tortuguero canals combo tour lists about 5 hours at $85 per adult, pickup included. Allow 60-90 minutes to get back to the ship, because ship excursions are guaranteed to return you and independent tours aren’t.
Colón, Panama (Feb 5)
Book the ship excursion here, and bring a passport book. The ship usually docks at Colón 2000, though Legend’s terminal isn’t confirmed. Carnival lists a “Grand Tour: Eco Cruise, Indian Village & Locks” at about 6 hours, with the Agua Clara Locks Visitor Center, a Gatun Lake catamaran ride and an Embera village. A third-party Gatun Lake and Embera combo runs about 6.5 hours at $195. Walking Colón city on your own is the weak option.
The route is marketed as “Panama Canal,” but nothing we found confirms the ship transits the canal. Treat Colón as a port call.
Aruba (Feb 7)
The longest call of the trip, 9:00 AM to 10:00 PM, is your beach-plus-dinner day. The terminal is downtown in Oranjestad, with shops 2-5 minutes’ walk away. By car, Druif Beach is about 5 minutes, Eagle about 10, Palm Beach 10-15 and Baby Beach about 45. Taxis have fixed fares to popular beaches but no meters, so agree the price first. Sources disagree on whether cruise passengers need the ED card, so verify at edcardaruba.aw or with Carnival.
Curaçao (Feb 8)
Walk Willemstad first, then beach. The Mega Pier is the likely berth for a ship this size (our inference), and the walk to Queen Emma Bridge is 5-15 minutes depending on the source. Drive times from port are Mambo Beach 10-15 minutes, Blue Bay 15-20, Jan Thiel 20-25 and Tugboat Beach about 25. The Blue Curaçao distillery (Landhuis Chobolobo) is about 10 minutes away and Hato Caves about 15.
Amber Cove (Feb 10)
This is a Carnival-owned port about six miles west of Puerto Plata, so you’re staying put or booking an excursion. Blog prices, undated, say pool access and loungers are free. The same source lists ziplining at $28 for unlimited rides, cabanas from $340 per day and Wi-Fi at $8 per day. A taxi to Puerto Plata has a posted rate of $70 round trip, though one reader paid $60. Verify all of this with Carnival.
Conditions and Packing for This Season
Pack for two climates: cool Tampa bookends and tropical everything in between. It’s outside Atlantic hurricane season (June 1 to November 30), so the likelier weather headache is a winter cold front.
| Place | Typical February |
|---|---|
| Tampa | Highs about 71-75°F, lows about 53-56°F |
| Caribbean generally | Air mid-70s to mid-80s°F, sea 78-82°F |
| Puerto Limón | Highs about 85°F, lows about 76°F, showery even in the drier season |
| Aruba / Curaçao | Average about 82°F with trade-wind breeze |
These are rough figures from weather sites and blogs, with Tampa’s drawn from a February average that starts a day after we sail. We found no usable climate data for Grand Cayman, Colón or Amber Cove.
- Swimwear, sun protection and tropical layers.
- A compact umbrella or rain jacket for Limón and Colón showers.
- A sweater for Tampa departure and return.
- Motion remedies. The Gulf crossing to Grand Cayman is the likeliest spot for front-driven swell (our inference), and there are six sea days in all.
- A towel from the ship for Amber Cove, per the blog guide.
Money
Gratuities are the easiest cost to estimate; the rest is add-on shopping, which is where wallets go to cry. For sailings departing on or after April 2, 2026, the daily service charge is $17 per person for standard cabins and $19 for suites. Guests who prepaid before April 2 kept the old rate, so check your own invoice.
| Item | Rate | 13 days |
|---|---|---|
| Gratuities, standard cabin | $17 per person per day | $221 per person ($442 for two) |
| Gratuities, suite | $19 per person per day | $247 per person |
| Cheers! (pre-cruise, with 20% service charge) | $83.94 per person per day | $1,091.22 per person ($2,182.44 for two) |
| Zero-Proof Cheers (pre-cruise) | $35.99 per person per day | Not totalled |
| Bottomless Bubbles, adult | $14.39 per day | Not totalled |
| Wi-Fi, Social / Value | $20.40 / $23.80 per day | $265.20 / $309.40 |
The totals are our arithmetic and assume 13 charged days, which isn’t confirmed. Drink and Wi-Fi rates come from third-party guides, and the reported December 1 dynamic pricing may change all of them. Cheers! covers up to 15 alcoholic drinks a day, must be bought for the whole cruise, and must cover every adult 21+ in the cabin. Our tipping guide covers who gets what beyond the automatic charge.
On a route with six port days and six sea days, Cheers! is a big optional spend, so don’t buy it on autopilot unless you plan to live on cocktails. Sea days make the best case for it, and Zero-Proof Cheers suits lighter drinkers. Wi-Fi adds up over 13 days, and we haven’t researched roaming costs.
Bringing your own
- One sealed 750 ml bottle of wine or champagne per guest 21+, in carry-on, on embarkation day only.
- Corkage is $15 per bottle in a dining room, specialty restaurant or bar, and nothing in your cabin.
- Beer and spirits are not allowed. Alcohol bought in port is held until the last day.
- Up to 12 sealed cans or cartons of non-alcoholic drinks are reported, but Carnival’s safety page says bottled water and soda aren’t allowed, so confirm before you pack.
Our bring-alcohol guide goes deeper. The Aruba, Curaçao and Amber Cove duty-free aisles will tempt you, but that bottle goes into storage until the end.
Documents
Bring a passport book for everyone, children and infants included. This is a round trip from Tampa, so WHTI documents get you aboard: a passport book or card, an enhanced driver’s licence, a certificate of naturalization, or a birth certificate plus government photo ID. Mobile and digital IDs aren’t accepted. But Carnival says guests who want to go ashore in Panama need a passport book. Passport-card and birth-certificate guests stay aboard in Colón.
- Validity: at least six months beyond the end of travel, which here means through August 13, 2027.
- Age 16 and up: an unexpired government photo ID.
- Minors without a parent: Carnival recommends an original signed letter from the absent parent or guardian.
- Flying in: a REAL ID-compliant licence or a passport.
- Denied boarding: without proper documents there is no boarding and no fare refund.
- Non-US citizens: Carnival says to check with your travel agent or government for each port. We found no confirmed 2026 entry rules or fees for cruise passengers at the ports.
- Don’t pack: speakers or radios (held until the end), CBD products (banned even where legal), candles or irons.
Carry medications in original labelled containers. Secondary sources say prescriptions are fine and a small cooler for medication is allowed, but Carnival’s own wording on that isn’t confirmed. Check Carnival’s Prohibited Items List and the ticket contract before you pack.
FAQ: Carnival Legend, January 31, 2027
Do I need a passport for the Carnival Legend cruise from Tampa?
Not to board: as a round trip from Tampa, WHTI documents such as a passport card, enhanced licence or birth certificate plus photo ID are accepted. But Carnival says you need a passport book to go ashore in Panama, and guests without one stay aboard at Colón. Carnival recommends a passport book for everyone, since it’s the only document that gets you home from a foreign port in an emergency.
Does this Carnival Legend cruise go through the Panama Canal?
That isn’t confirmed. The route is marketed with “Panama Canal” in the name, but the schedule lists Colón as a port call, and nothing we found says the ship transits the canal. Colón is on the Caribbean side. Plan it as a port day, and check Carnival’s itinerary page or the daily planner before building your day around locks.
When does online check-in open for the January 31, 2027 sailing?
Carnival’s help centre says check-in and arrival appointments happen within 14 days of sailing, which points to about January 17, 2027. Diamond, Platinum and suite guests reportedly get it two days earlier, on January 15. Check-in closes at midnight Eastern on January 30. Confirm the exact window on Carnival’s online check-in page.
How much are gratuities on a 13-night Carnival cruise?
For sailings departing on or after April 2, 2026, it’s $17 per person per day in standard cabins and $19 in suites. Over 13 days that’s $221 per person, or $442 for two in a standard cabin. Whether Carnival charges 13 or 14 days on this sailing isn’t confirmed, and guests who prepaid before April 2 kept the old rate, so check your invoice. You can adjust gratuities onboard.
Can I bring wine on Carnival Legend?
Yes: each guest 21 or older may bring one sealed 750 ml bottle of wine or champagne in carry-on luggage, on embarkation day only. Drinking it in your cabin costs nothing, while in a dining room or bar it’s $15 corkage per bottle. Beer and spirits aren’t allowed and will be confiscated. Pack the bottle sealed and easy to find, because nobody wants to explain a Chardonnay at the security belt.
Is Grand Cayman a tender port on this cruise?
A port guide says George Town has no piers for full-size ships, so you ride a tender ashore. We haven’t seen Carnival’s tender procedure for this sailing, so check the daily planner for ticket instructions. Your call is 9:00 AM-5:00 PM. Leave extra time for the tender queue back to the ship, especially on independent plans.
What’s the weather like on a February cruise from Tampa?
Expect cool bookends and warm everything else. Tampa February highs run about 71-75°F with lows around 53-56°F, per a weather blog. Limón runs highs near 85°F and lows near 76°F, and Aruba and Curaçao average about 82°F. It’s outside hurricane season (June 1 to November 30), though a winter cold front can roughen the Gulf crossing.
The Bottom Line
This is a proper long haul for people who want ports, but only if the paperwork is right and the add-on spending is deliberate. Get a passport book sorted now, because it decides whether you see Panama or watch it from the deck. Set calendar reminders for the dining window, December 1 pricing, and check-in on about January 17.
Then confirm the port list on Carnival’s site, because our own data doesn’t have one. Pack for Tampa in the 50s and Aruba at 82°F, and bring one bottle of wine in your carry-on. Check the ship page for the full Legend profile.
