This Spirit-class veteran launched back in 2009 and got a full refurb in 2022, so what you're boarding isn't some tired relic pretending it's still 2009 — it's a genuinely refreshed 92,720-ton vessel carrying up to 2,826 passengers and 930 crew, sailing out of Brisbane. One inspection is admittedly a small sample size — there's not enough history yet to call a trend, so don't let anyone tell you this ship is "on the rise" or "trending down," because the data simply doesn't say that yet. What it does say is that on the one visit health inspectors made, this ship passed with a score most of the fleet would frame and hang on the wall.

Built by Fincantieri and registered in Italy, the Luminosa isn't the biggest thing Carnival has floating around — at 294 meters and 12.7 knots, it's not winning any drag races either — but for a mid-sized Spirit-class ship doing Brisbane departures, "solid and clean" is exactly the reputation you want. We don't have outbreak history to report here (that data's currently unreachable on the CDC side), so we're not going to pretend we can vouch for a spotless outbreak record — we simply don't have the receipts either way. What we can vouch for is the inspection score in front of us, and a 98 is a 98.

Who should skip it: itinerary completists chasing the biggest slides and splashiest mega-ship amenities — Luminosa is mid-sized and Spirit-class, so it's playing a different game than Carnival's newer giants.
